So much great stuff! Poshspice's piece jumped out to me though. The excecution is something different, and I love the characters, and especially the little hanging sign. :D

Wow, great entries again. I really should have worked harder to get mine done in time. I mean what could be more important than this?!

I think JakkaS just nailed the concept though, you got my vote! :confident

For me it was tough.....I really liked Poshspice, Lukavi and Al-X. Poshspice's was really quite funny (I hope it was meant to be). The characters were very "cartoonish", I liked them. Al-X was really cool and it reminded me of the way I would've approached it. But ultimately, I went with Lukavi's pic. To me the character embodies the personality of a salesman. This guy looks like he could sell ketchup popsicles to someone wearing white gloves! I only the other character was in it as well, the bard.
Good job to all though. There were some other really great pictures. It was a shame to have to narrow it down to one.

I was torn between Sinix, Andrew and Posh. I loved how Sinix rendered his, the colors, the looseness, but would’ve liked to see more of the character below the waist. Andrew’s registered to me right away as a merch peddling for dwarves, and Posh merchant is loveable, bonus points too for including his friend…hmmm in this pic, it looks to me like maybe they’re more than friends? They’re both not married at that age…and always travel together. Hmmm looks like got a ‘lil somethin’ somethin’ going on there (if you know what I mean). Hehe, anyway, great entry Posh. Hard choice, but I ended up with Andrew in the end, nice presentation, and solid design.

Props to everyone who turned in an entry. Loads more good peeps with awesome entries I didn’t get to mention here. Thanks for the eye candy!

Crap, I just noticed that I didn't set this poll for "Public" viewing - so you're not going to be able to see who voted for who. I apologize. I was having some technical difficulties setting everything up tonight... :nohope: (Seriously, comp crashed right in the middle of getting everything together, among other fun stuff). >:|

Anyway, great stuff people! I'm always impressed with what you guys come up with!

Oh man. This was a tough one. Well the same names that got my attention in the 1st round blew my mind on this one too... Screw u for making it look so easy. Oh well, thank god I still got plenty of years left (but I want the skills now)..
My vote goes for lukavi... Everytime you show a new pic, it makes me wonder why I even bother... I don't have the words anymore...just...keep...it...up... :nohope: :nohope: :nohope: :nohope: :nohope:

as I said before... choosing one this time is pure hell.. too many good ideas and quality renditions... my finalists are:

AndrewLey: great design and expression... its a shame you didn't go full colour on this one... especially love his backpack construction.

Sinix: very nice style.. so loose but still lively... The character comes across very well in this one.. love it!

Hurricane: I have to admit it- I'm a fan. I'm always impressed with your style and this one is no exception... The outfit design on this one simply is killer. Sadly he looks a bit more like a wandering warrior. Very cool pic nontheless.

Fellah: now THIS is soemthing different.. GREAT design.. the things he's carrying look almost organic, but still practical. Very cool mood you established there.

Poshspice: THAT one cheered me up... great execution as always. Your pic SCREAMS "character"... great one!

Jakob Sudra: the amount of detail had me marveling. Sadly its a little dark, but the design rocks... Seems like a greedy little fellah (no pun intended).

JakkaS: great character design and beyond that a very cool background. Your armour designs simply got me... to quote scumgrinder: "I hate JakkaS"

Lukavi: love the look on his face. I would look like that too, if I'd have to carry so much stuff around. Great sense for detail in this one.

Of course there were more pictures that caught my attention (this round was simply mindblowing - kudos to evryone) but the entries I mentioned simply have evrything the description demanded in my oppinion...

as for my vote: tough one, but I chose JakkaS - simply because of his solid rendering and composition. That pic simply got me looking for minutes...

Great round!!

Cheers,
Etienne

My vote went to Sinix this time. Love the loosness. The angle you choose might not be the best to show a concept though

Lukavi: Lovely as always! You've got a great personal style. But thats also your downfall. This charactar looks more like something from The Book of One Thousand and One Nights than a Sword & Sorcery fantasy character...

Poshspice: Thats funny! You were my second choice...

Lukavi gets my vote again - same reasons as last time really - his character gives a suggestion of another world and culture I want to know more about.

Though choice. there are many that stand out as getting the concept right. thinking of the Conan mythology narrows it down a bit. scumgrinder, Fellah, Sinix, DavidSmit, al-x, JakkaS, Oregano, lukavi, princeofhappiness, and Danomight. All good job then there were some that were just too skinny. that left me with: Fellah, Sinix, DavidSmit, al-x, and Danomight. Then I went with who had the best costume that would fit a merchant that trades in such an high quality commodity as Dwarven goods.

So my vote went with Danomight. Great job all.

Hmpf, missed the deadline ... I thought somehow the deadline has been November the 6th so I didn´t finish my entry until this morning.

Difficult choice this time. For me the term Merchant meant that the guy isn´t carrying his goods himself - instead of a kind of pedlar. For this reason and for showing a character where I can imagine some personality I´ve chosen oishiiniku for my favourite. Even if I would have liked some more dwarven influence on him.

Fipse

P.s.: Who´s interested in my design: Fipse´s merchant (http://www.grafips.de/ca/draw/merchant.jpg)

So hard to choose again! Really wanted to vote for whoami. The painterly style appeals to me so much, but the character just doesnt look like he could put up with a lot of travelling and can't imagine he would be a nice guy.

Wanted to vote for al-x too! The design is brilliant. Sticks pretty closely to the desciption and has a really good feel to it I think.

In the end I went for fellah. Great style and design for the character. Looks like he's prepared for long treks, but has all his merchandise ready to sell in all those pouches, and awesome glove!

Other entries I liked were oregano, jakkas and poshspice.

Fellah.

Thanks man :) So much good stuff - really amazing! HAd to go with JakkaS on this one - love the painted style.

My vote goes with JakkaS this time. Really nice pic, with all the character details in there, excellently rendered. My only crit is a slight lack of expression and the pose is a bit stiff, but these are pretty minor! Great stuff! :) For me it was pretty damn close with Oregano...

Cool work everyone and a great turnout again!

... and Posh merchant is loveable, bonus points too for including his friend…hmmm in this pic, it looks to me like maybe they’re more than friends? They’re both not married at that age…and always travel together. Hmmm looks like got a ‘lil somethin’ somethin’ going on there (if you know what I mean). Hehe, anyway, great entry Posh.

Just read this! Haha! Well I guess it's a long a winding road... ;)

had to vote jakkas. The face was just too well done to not vote for it.

honorable mentions(in no particular order)

Andrewley- uber dwarf, im digging the forearm musculature

Lukavi- love his gear, think the lighting could be more dynamic

PoshSpice- great character- but too cartoony and stiff for my taste.

fellah- second place for me great handling on the subject, love his expression

good round all!

First of all, thx for any votes and comments
I read them all, but reading with a dictionary takes too much time.
This time voting was easy for me (in ChoW#1 couldn't decide and didn't vote!).
Now my favourites are: scumgrinder, hurricane, Fellah, Poshspice, csteingart, whoami and Oregano.
Finally voted for OREGANO - atmosphere and design.
Second where Fellah (design) and Poshspice (sence of humour).
Sorry i don't write a lot, 'couse my english sucks!

Cheers.
Kuba

Ps. Poshspice, I know my drawing is a little bit dry, but I'm still working on it.

man, that's boring:
Sinix again.

No offense: I know a lot of people put in lots of time (especially JakkaS, Hurricane and Poshpiece), but sometimes that's not all...
Personally, I just LOVE characters, that have a certain amount of dynamism and looseness rather than being rendered tightly.
Sinix's is also very moody and -let me say - "mature" compared to the other entries.
Other faves:
Scumgrinder, Andrew, lukavi and Oishiiniku (very close!)

too many to choose from! Like I said before, I love seeing all the variations off of ONE character description. love it!

hmm...I picked Oshiiniku's ultimately because I liked the merriment in his face as well as the dress of the character. Felt as though the character embodied the concept as a 'merchant'.

but, I really liked so many (Sinix - your style rocks!) and I think everyone did a wonderful job.

David Smit - I think your creation was VERY conan-esque and well done. Costume and character stood out.

Andrew - LOVE the b/w sketch. I don't know how long it took you to draw, but it looks like it was easy for you! ;p

I better stop before I give bravos to everyone...

Last week I very nearly voted for lukavi, but Poshspice just barely beat him out in my mind. This week, my decision was much easier. Love love love lukavi's. Oregano was a close second because I'm a sucker for beautiful cinematic scenes like that. Scumgrinder's is kickass as well.

Man o man this is tuff! So many really nice designs. I had to go for scumgrinder. Again the simplicty of the design is beautiful. And I love that it doesn't have any of the merchant character clichés.

Was a tough choice but I went with Lukavi. His is the one that most screams out 'merchant' to me. :)

Felah got my vote - very close with scumgrinder. They both make me dream, great mood atmosphere and.. twistness ;)
Lots of other lovely ones - CONGRATS TO ALL.

I voted Griff. I think he executed the theme the best. The guy really looks like a traveling merchant. Best kind of merchant too, a weapons merchant.

What a difficult one this was to vote on!! Some that stood out to me and why...

scumgrinder - amazing face and brush strokes on that fur and hair. This guy is awesome. But, he doesn't feel like a merchant. He feels like a mysterious warrior of some sort. Definitely one of my favorites for color. His feet don't seem to match the rest of the painting though.

AndrewLey - Wow! I love how this guy's whole outfit and gadget look. Love the brush strokes. I just didn't pick this for my vote because it's it's in black and white.

hurricane - really great design. I love the armor and he's definitely stocky. Matches the description very well.

Fellah - awsome colors and design. All of the satchels are perfect. I really like the texture too.

Poshspice - my vote went to you. I just fell for the sign and big belt and those functional little hooks holding his wares. I didn't really like the curly shoes but that's more personal taste than a critique. Great job on all of it, though.

Jakub Sudra - I really like the mood of yours. He looks so intense and wise.

Sinix - Love how you use the big black lines. The light and shadows are great.

al-x - really cool & original outfit

Sunny - that metallic shine looks awesome. Love the dragon creature too.

JakkaS - great background, character, and muted colors.

bRØk3n_sPiRiT - hilarious tattoo and tummy hanging out. He would make a great ogre.

lukavi - really great colors and i love all of the stuff he's carrying

oishiiniku - love the classic pose and the outfit is really cool and pirate-like.

griff - it has some anatomy problems but it's a really original costume design and the colors are great, too.
