So Im working on this illustration and I came up with these thumbnails. I think Im going with the one with the yellow dot on it and I was hoping to get some feedback on
1. the composition
2. What color scheme do you think would look good (im thinking of red and muted greens) What other color might look good in there?
The fiinal will be painted Gauache -

Nice, I agree with the one you picked but I don't know about muted reds and greens being the overall scheme. Obviously she will have to read as Red Riding Hood and the foliage to some extent but I think the focus should be on the mood or emotion. Shouldn't it be scary? Maybe lots of "cold" blues or something.
I think the composition is pretty good too, my eye travels very well around the whole piece without getting bored. However something about RRH's placement bugs me and you'll have to be careful with the red, it will really draw the eye.
Anyways, can't wait to see this finished.

I'm with Idiot (that never gets old), especially in regard to the color scheme; making her warm (hard to avoid with the red cape) and most everything else cool will accentuate the feel of danger.
One of the sweetest things about your composition is that she's leaving the light, going into the dark, but the wolf is cutting off the safety of the light (to the viewer, if not LRRH). That's chilling. I am really looking forward to seeing your progress with this.

I'm with Dogfood :) the wolf getting behind her is scary - of course there is a risk the lighting will make the wolf look cutesy. There is one thing that bothers me though; it looks like the wolf was hiding behind that skinny tree (since we don't see his tail or anything at the other side of it) and that looks faintly ridiculous. Perhaps put some fatter trees or some brush, something that makes it plausible thar rrh walked past the wolf without noticing.
