I've installed my version of painter 7 on my winXP machine and get the error "this version of painter has been damaged or illegally modified, please reinstall from the original disks." I have a real registered copy of the program. I tried installing it on a win2k machine... no problem.. went on fine everything worked. I formatted XP from my machine (it was slow as piss anyway) and put 2K back on... same problem. Any ideas? Has anyone else encountered this problem? I loved painter 5 so I'd really like to get this one working.

have u checked with the faq on procreates website?
i'm confused though, if you were able to install it on Win2k, y did u format your XP, and install it, if u already had it installed?
maybe it needs an update?
or does that error occur when u try to run it after u install it, or it happens when u installing or b4 you are installing?
do you have the system requirements for it?
Windows® version
• Windows® 98, Windows 2000, Windows NT® 4.0 or Windows Me
• IBM-compatible PC, Pentium® 200 or higher
• 64 MB RAM
• 24-bit (800 x 600) color display
• 2X CD-ROM drive
• Mouse or tablet
System Requirements
best i can do.. tell me what's up :)

I had XP on my machine so I tried installing it on a different machine with 2K and it worked, only it isn't my machine.. so I got rid of XP on my machine and went back to 2K and I got the same problem. My sys is as follows:
Asus TUV4X
Celeron2 1.2ghz
512MB RAM (133)
40x cd-rom
Maxtor 60gig ATA-100 HD
I've asked Procreate about it but they haven't responded yet.

oh yeah and an ASUS v6600 Geforce deluxe
I've tried updating it but it's brand new and says the update is built in.

from what i can tell and from asking a buddy of mines that's had some problems with painter. it's probably 2 things
1) since you were able to install it correctly on Win2k b4, and not now, double check your serial and make sure u enter it correctly.
2) The cd is in fact corrupted and you need Procreate to re-inburst you for the bad copy you have.
you have more than enough system requirements, and u mentioned it work b4, so that's what it probably could be.
best of luck jon

don't know. my painter six would never crash. however, and others have said this, painter 7 seems to crash.

I can make both of them crash. Not something to be proud of I guess. :p
Painter 6 to 7 for me was basically to make the dual monitor set up and Wacom tablets to work. 6 refused with every variation I tried. 7 worked from the get go.
If you have a dual monitor set up and use a Tablet (God, I hope so, cause mouse and Painter is painful), then you have no choice but to use Painter 7.
