Hey guys and gals. i haven't participated in a challenge before. I want to challenge anyone willing to participate.

Any topic would be fun, as long as it's a character design.

Check out my online portfolio to see my work: www.mackart.ca

Any takers?

well i think that instead of my challenge i posted that i might participate in yours. I think that the medium should be anything as long as it is in traditional. I am thinking black and white would also be appropiate. and a topic having to do with something scary and weird would be nice seeing upon what time of year it is. drop me a line with the details if you will have me.

mmmm i can taste the black in my cmyk (my own quote)

hmm interesting....we should do a three way challenge
I would love to get in this. Im open to whatever you guys wanna do...I wanna focus on my weak points...mechanical things and landscapes...but I'm down for whatever. Good to see other artist out there willing to compete w/ each other to get better. :)

mechanical stuff is also my weakness so i think that a challenge with that would be interesting. How about a type of creature whos part flesh and part machine in traditional media?

ah yeah man that sounds fun. I'm down for it....what's the deadline? I'm thinking somewhere along the lines of...after thanksgiving...what do you guys think?

how about december 3rd or 10th I think that 4-5 weeks to work on this would make it look very very awesome. and i think at least an overall sketch should be due by november 19th. Or if if you guys want we could always remain super secretive=)

can I join in aswell?

October 30th, 2005, 11:20 AM
sure i think a 4 way matchup would be exciting. Now i do not know if any of you want to include a background into the image. But as long as the mediums stay tradional then im down for a 4 way challenge. All we need now is a judge to grade all of our work accordingly.

Can i participate aswell?

Cool, so here is the idea. Create something scary looking, somekind of monster/creature with machinery incorporated into the creature using traditional mediums(pencil/oil/Acrylics...) B & W, no color. No background. Focus solely on the character. When do you guys want it do? I say December 3 2005.Plus, post an early sketch just for a teaser and then post the final on the due date.

Anything else?

everything sounds cool except the posting of the early sketch...I kinda like to keep it a suprise and just blow you guys away w/ the final :P
I think early posts should be optional...they serve no point in the actual competition...well I guess you guys would work harder after seeing what I show you lol.

lol let the competition begin. We really do need to get a judge for this even though. With 5 of us in it i would like an untainted eye of sorts to judge us on our merit. If you guys know someone willing to do it then ask them=) besides which smokeking i think most ppl will dig my design the most lol j/k

if you think you can do it in such a short span of time then your welcome aboard. it is due this saturday unless other ppl need or want an extension.

unknown_epiphany
November 30th, 2005, 07:51 PM
I honestly think that a one week extension would be well served if anyone agrees. My piece is on its way to completion but i dont know how good it will look especially with school finals kicking my ass. if none of you agree then ill have my final posted on saturday but i vote we move the deadline to the tenth of december. and humans are an accepted type of crerature for this project right?

P.S.

i dont think you guys are gonna be expecting the mediums ive been using on this badboy hehe =)

Lone Wolf
December 3rd, 2005, 11:14 AM
noshadowmaster- It' suppose to be traditonal media, and machine and flesh mixed together. It should also be finished. Not just the upper-body.

All posts are due tonight by 11:59pm. Good luck. We also need someone to judge this one. Maybe we should do a poll?

unknown_epiphany
December 3rd, 2005, 11:51 AM
i agree with lone wolf. we do need a judge for this baby.

December 3rd, 2005, 12:31 PM
Hey everyone i am going to officially withdraw from the challenge. My piece is nowhere near as polished as it needs to be and its not even worth showing. I am sorry for the last minute notification but i can still be a judge of the competition. I am going to also see if i can get someone to also judge the contest. Thanks again for the chance to prove myself but it was idiotic of me to even enter due to school and work. Thanks again.

PS i asked ApolloNuevo to judge the competition and am awaiting a reply. thanks again for understanding my withdrawal.

ummm...only one entry...so i guess you win. too bad nobody else played :(

quik crit for what it's worth

1) when designing machinery, think "functionality leads to design."
2) although you have a fine sense of modeling on this creature, as we can tell when forms recede and approach, there is no good sense of lighting. harsh top down or bottom up lighting could really add a lot to this piece and also help obscure some elements (always a good way to add mystery and suspense to a piece.)
3) the smoke on the right hand side is an extreme anomaly. either eliminate it or incorporate like forms into more of the design.

woah shit man...I got my piece but my internet was cut off this weekend so I couldn't post it...and last time I checked this post I read something about getting another week for the comp. I don't think that's a good enough excuse to give me time to post but...I mean I'll post it tomorrow just to show yall what I had lol anyway yeah man, sorry about the delay...that sucks no-one did anything lol.
