Here is a painting by Adrian Gottlieb that I did a little color study of. I need help with how I should put the layers of color on eachother. And anything else that you think would help the painting.

Well, surprised no-ones replied yet. I don't know quite what you mean by "layers of color on each other". But I do have some suggestions.

You've done a fair job with the values and placement, yours came out a little taller though. Try some rough guidlines or proportion sketch before you dive in. You've made the left half of her back too dark, there is reflected light on it, and I don't think her shoulders aren't light enough. A good way to see value is to squint until the details go away.

I took this into painter to look at the hues you've chosen and noticed only one for the skintones, an orange. Look at all the different hues in the original, yellows oranges and reds, especially the reds.

Anyways, keep working on it, it will pay off. Check out some tutorials around here.

Thanks a lot for the advice. The thing that stuck out most is the colors. I need to pay more attention to the reds and pinks of the original. And of course squint down to simplify the shadow shapes. I guess it's all up here I just need to starting focusing harder and adjusting to the tablet.
