I didn't really know where else to put this, so I hope the lounge is alright. Ever since last school year when Justin Sweet visited my school and showed us his work, I've been obsessed with concept design and illustration. He showed us all the work he did for the new Narnia movie coming out, which was all absolutely phenomenal. I wanted to ask if anyone knows anything about the release of the concept design he did for the films. He never updates his site (dunno if he'll be allowed to put them on his site anyway), and I haven't heard of a book or anything like that being released. Does anyone know if a book featuring his work on Narnia is going to be released? I've only been able to find random pieces in some of the Narnia books that are just coming out, but I have yet to see a book dedicated JUST to the concept work for the film. Anyone know anything about this?

Ooooo I'll definitely have to check that out. The stuff he showed us of Narnia was IMO his most impressive to date, so I'm dieing to see it again.

the narnia trailer that is out has one quick shot of a painting he did. maybe you could screen capture it and post it up. :)

i spoke to him today to let him know it would be great if he could share a bit of that stuff. I think people are jonezing to see some of his latest stuff. I am anyhow.

TaekwondoNJ - totally with you on this, being a huge Justin Sweet fan. I was able to get a pic of the Narnia poster a few weeks ago. I can send it to you if you like.

Jason - get Justin to update his site!

He apparently hired someone to do his site (or thats what he told us when I saw him), but yeah, I've been killing to see some new work of his. If he released a book of his work I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I didn't realize the poster was done by Sweet? Or maybe you're talkin about a different one. Hell if its by him, definitely send it to me.

If only I could see high res versions of his work, I can't make out any real details from the stuff he posts on his site.

Mike Corriero, I think thats the book I saw at barnes and noble. It DOES have some of his work in it, but its just sorta thrown in randomly, sometimes has text over it, etc. But it looks like I might have to settle with that for now.

Yea, his narnia stuff is some of his most epic stuff to date I'd say. I saw some of them when he had a big gallery display at fullerton college. The huge painting of the polar bears pulling the witch thru the snow and the one of aslan being crucified stick out in my mind. It'd be great to see this stuff posted up somewhere.

Alright I found a poster that was done by Sweet. I think this is actually only half of the painting (the original is, I believe, a wider view). Amazing stuff, I think I just wet myself...

Edit: Found the full image, but its considerabley smaller.

i'm scared to see this movie because i loved the older one that always used to play on pbs and i dont want this new one to ruin it for me. i am really starting to hate cgi. i like movie effects better before everything and anything was done in computer. it's not that the computer animation isn't well done and i know that the older effects are sometimes so obviously bad...but the older ones just have some sort of charm to them that i really enjoy. you have to wonder if certain movies from, say, 70's-earlyish 90's would be as good or as liked as they are now if they were done with bunches of cgi. like dark crystal. i know that's a muppet movie mainly but made today it might still be entirely different things with at least some creatures replaced with cgi. like the giant bunny-crickets in dark crystal, i'm sure they would have chosen the easier path of animating them rather than making the big ole puppets. and yes i know parts of it already were animation and stuffs but you get my point. i hope:\
i didn't intend this to be a cgi rant but it turned into one. i was completely bored with the charlie and the choclate factory movie because of those stupid fucking oompaa loompas and several other movies for the same reasondfhglsdjkh never mind, i am completely rambling.
i've seen some of the art and previews so i am looking forward to it and i don't want to dislike this it since it looks so good and i already enjoy the story, and the older movies based on them, so much.

No, I completely understand what you mean. I still feel like the prequel star wars films just feel less authentic than the original trilogy, even though the special effects are better. The CGI often feels almost TOO fluid, like its being animated in ideal situations or something that could never really exist in nature. Sorry to get off topic.

In Justin's defense, he wanted to go with white Buffalos ... even produced work to that effect ... it was nixed in favor of the polar bears by the AD.

the frazetta comment wasnt meant as a bad thing.
just an observation. i think the the frazetta feel in his work is sexy.
