Hey guys, i've been doing some work with photoshop and i notice everytime i convert the .psd file to a jpeg or whatever the colors darken alot. My browns become black and so on. It really ruining the way alot of my paintings are looking. I'm using the highest quality when saving as well, any ideas?

It might be that your working with the painting in CYMK mode and then when it is creating a JPEG it is putting it in RGB mode and in the conversion it is getting darker. You can check by going to the tool bar and going IMAGE --> MODE. If this is the problem then it might bite you if you switch to RGB to work after converting to CYMK to print :upset:

that doesn't seem to be the problem, the paintings are in rgb mode and still coming out dark when converted. Also, i don't have this problem when converting my painter RIFF files to jpeg. Maybe it's an issue with photoshop itself?

I expect the gamma of the color space Photoshop is working in is different from your monitor gamma. Open up your color settings and see if your RGB setup is set to monitor RGB or not.

This article (http://www.gballard.net/psd/honormyembeddedprofile.html) explains it better than I can. For finding a correct setup, check this article (http://www.gballard.net/psd/cmstheory.html) and this one (http://www.gballard.net/nca.html#getagoodscreen) as well.
