ok first of all i went to nat port. day and talked to sva and cooper union (already talked to parsons)
sva praised me like no other and talked about scholarships- they loved my color choice in art especially
cooper was fairly complimentary..they said some of my stuff was amazing but that i didnt have enough realllly recent work, that i was doing all of the right things but might not have enough by app. time-she also said she was not fond of my colored work---opposite of what sva said
my question is, is sva selective at all?? or do they praise everyone...where should i go? is parsons so expensive that it kills the student? i dont know what to do.. feedback pleaaaase. thanks

Are you for illustration?
Well, if Cooper says that much, then just do the take home test. People that get accepted put life on pause for the month and just spend their time on the test. Also if you apply early admission at Cooper you have like a 8-10% greater chance of getting accepted.
I have confidence that you'd get into Cooper given they liked your work and you spend your whole month on the take home test, I've heard of people getting ripped apart by Cooper (people who also got accepted into RISD and whatnot). But don't rely on me.
I don't know much about the illustration programs, just that Pratt is pretty good, and so is SVA.
P.S. My old roommate and all his friends go to Cooper, so if you've got any questions feel free to ask.

From what I can tell from my classmates work they arent all that selective. For scholarships on the other hand they seem to be reasonably selective, seeing SVA is the only school i didnt get a scholarship offer from (go figure that i end up coming here :dead:). Then again since the scholarship portfolio deadline for SVA is about a month earlier then most of the other schools my portfolio then was noticeably weaker.
From what I hear from graduates/people who are majoring in Illustration the program is very strong.
Search around on these boards about pratt, there are some pretty bad horror stories about the illustration department and pratt in general.

if you are on this site,
i assume you have some interest in illustration or concept art.
cooper union is reknown for HATING illustration.
they really push the fine art aspect of classical drawing.
"if its commercial, its crap", is their motto.
sva,
yes, they WILL accept anyone.
"accept em all, and then weed them out!"
the work load first year is astounding.
by junior year, every non-serious student will be weeded out.
but, their illustration department is incredible.
if they are willing to give you a scholarship...pursue it... but dont pick the school because of that.
parsons is a good school,
but really puts a lot into making your college degree well rounded.
a lot more emphasis on academic classes.
math, science... all that.
