This is my third painting that I did with oils.
I used Griffin Alkyd Oil Colors. They dry in 5 - 6 hours!!!

To make life a little easier for me I did the portrait as a value study only in Black & White (it is for now complicated enough for me), but the Digi-Picture is not very good.

I did this portrait after a Ref of a painting that I found in the Net, but I changed it a little bit.

Very nice peice! I agree, the eyes and beard are very nice. In fact, it is all very well done. If this is only your third painting, man, I'd love to see what you come up with in the forthcoming ones!

Really nice painting! Is it possible to show us the reference?

Maybe it´s just me (and a terrible workshiftwith less than 4,5 hours sleep) but I have got some problems with the hair. Especially on the left side it is "standing out" and don´t fit to the right part of the beard - I think you can´t see as much hair from this angle of view. There seems for me no symmetry in the hair.

Otherwise really good work where I haven´t got any crits. I really should start oilpainting (but I´m still a bit afraid of it ;)).

your grayscale painting got me inspired ...Hope you don't mind but I did a little digital paintover for fun.
Thats really good for your third oil painting. I couldn't bear posting my fourth on this site. Keep it up.

My only crit is the way the neck looks. Something about it doesn't ring right to me....Slightly. But other than that great job!
Hope to see more stuff in the future, Maybe some figures...

R_M and NRG: Thanks a lot, and... yes I will, I´m very motivated!

NRG: Thanks, man! I will first do more Black & White Value Studies - I have tooo much respect (ore is it fear) to color with oil!

Fipse: Of course, here is the reference pic:

Wie du siehst ist das Referenz Bild ziemlich genial. Jetzt werden erst recht meine Fehler deutlich. Ich sehe das es noch ein langer Weg ist, aber es macht mir richtig Spaß und Freude mit Öl zu arbeiten.

With the Reference Picture you can REALLY see how many errors I did. It´s a long road to get there... :-)
...and, yes I can really understand you, it´s crazy but I feel fear to when I start to oilpaint!

Nekokaiju: THIS IS GREAT! THANKS A LOT! ...and your overpaint inspires me!

Hey Robolus..

I can understand you when you get alittle fear when doing oils. I am the same way with almost anything I do (art related, and its all digital!). I think part of the problem for me is that in the beginning stages of any artwork I do, it starts off looking very bad (as there is much to be developed). And it is at this point where I get the most nervous and I start to question my own abilities. But I also come to the realization that if I dont continue, I will not learn and improve.

You are a very talented artist. My advice to you.. 'feel the fear and do it anyway'. The reward at the end of all the time and effort will pay off. I am confident this will be the case with you. Sure, the artwork wont be perfect. No ones ever is. But with talent like that.. You really need to push yourself to the next level. I know it's easier said than done, but be willing to make mistakes, but more importantly, learn from them. I am a firm beleiver that failure is your greatest ally.

Cheers,
NRG
