I've been asigned a project in Computer Science where I have to research a career that relates to technology (no matter how minute the relation). I chose VG concept artist - obviously - and would like to know what little tidbits of information that you guys here on CA.org might dub important or would just like to tell me.

Anything I use will be cited appropriately. Thanks a bunch!

I'd also like to say that though I've only been here about an hour, I already feel extremely "at home," as it were. :confident

P.S. Um...I'll need the information before Oct. 23 if you want me to possibly use it.

You should probably ask some questions. You're being awfully vague about what you're looking for.

Indeed... also, why have there been a bunch of "help me with my homework" threads recently, all with tight deadlines? Get your acts together, students!

I'm sorry I was so vague. [bows] Let's see...

1. What tips would you give to someone planning on entering this field?
2. What programs are good to learn?
3. ...and anything else you deem important

Is that better? ^ ^

1. Work hard and learn much (being concept artist/designer in a video game company has nothing to do with playing games all the time and being able to copy comic/manga pictures).
2. the programm doesnīt matter but for concept art/design Photoshop/Painter are the most common programms used although they are just tools like a pencil. Thatīs like asking an programmer what keyboard to buy.
3. your second question is not really relevant, and itīs not much better. Just take a look at the structure of the whole forum and look around then you will see that like with any other field of work there is more than can be told with three questions.

for #1.. There is always someone much better than you. ALWAYS. Keep drawing hard. Have no ego at all, or it will get shattered.

There are a number of articles that cover this topic.. some companies even post up tips for portfolio submissions on their site along with some basic ideas to get you started.

You got a link? I'd like to see something like that.

Dunno about the ego thing, maybe just a little? :}
