This is gonna be a mini poster for my sister, but I guess I should brush it up a bit first. Some advice would be nice :)

I would suggest that the big white thing (giant mushroom?) be changed or removed. Right now it is unclear what it is exactly and distracts you from your main scene.

Your art has improved a lot since I last saw your stuff. I like the humor in this, and the quirky style is very suitable. Reminds me of 'The Far Side' for some reason. I agree - that white thingy behind the talking alien doesn't seem to work too well in the composition. As for the colors, perhaps just punching up the highlights and reflected light for the foreground and characters a bit will help them to stand out a bit better.
