I am concerned that this nominee (Harriet Miers) will
not fully support women's issue .. particularly in
terms of abortion and any other issues that may come
up over the next 20 or so years. I found this link in
Yahoo:
http://www.townhall.com/blogs/c-log/J%20Garthwaite/story/2005/10/03/159236.html
Can anyone offer any additional information?
Thx!!!

Your first post is political debate?
Why not go to the many political debate forums/blogs. You'd be much better served asking questions there. Unless of course you are just here to proselytize.

So let me get this straight..
There you are, sitting at your computer, or better yet, sitting in front of the TV watching the news. You see something about this nominee and it gets your blood boiling. It gets you so mad, you think to yourself "Damnit! I have to go start a debate online, i can't let my opinion go silent!".
So you get up and goto your computer. You consult google and type in "omfg Harriet Miers is teh sux0rz" and the #1 result you found was.....................conceptart.org?

Yeah, and the far right is against her because they don't have assurances that she's going to overturn Roe vs. Wade. It probably will never be overturned because it has 1. become the law of the land and 2. states where the destruction of unborn children becomes illigal will cause health problems for women that go to underground abortion clinics. In court, legal precidence has anchored Roe vs. Wade rather solid in it's place of law. Typically, judges are reluctant to go against legal precidence.

Fellas, fellas! Fellas! C'mon!
I understand this person has made their first post a political one. They briefly and concisely stated a concern, and asked for the opinions and information of others. Why the fuck are we attacking them?
Fellaaaaaaaaaaaas!
One thing I love about conceptart is that we dont attack other artists, or show jealousy towards people who have jobs we want. A LOT of other art forums are like that, just plain bitter and snobby. And while I generally hate when people come here to post/force philosophy down our throats, I dont think we should assume that from the simple comment mirza made that anybody needs to start piling on. It's probably a long-time lurker who finally made the plunge to register. Lets be more welcoming.
In any case, mirza, I think Transbot summed it up. Thats really all there is too it at the moment. Anyone who's getting pissed off about Miers' nomination is probably reaching at this point, because no one honestly knows where she stands on any substantial issues. While its safe to assume that W. appointed her for a reason beyond cronyism, its a little hard to judge her at this point.

If there's one thing this debate is ripe for.. it's puns!

Oh i know. But it is funny this is the forum she decided would be best to discuss this topic. Unless she is an artist and was planning on posting a sketchbook anyway but just wanted to say hi here this way. :)
