hey all, this character is just someone I dreamed up while watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles .. how is that related? Don't know. Anyway I just got some new pens and wanted to test them out with my nifty prismacolor markers so .. here tis. I will be posting the sketch soon and also hope to do some CG work to add some highlights to it. I'm also looking for c & c so by all means.. blast away.

I really like the horse, it is very powerful looking. Two things I noticed on the man:

1) His leg seems out of place, I keep thinking it should be bent back, instead of stretched out forward. That seems like a position for riding a motorcycle instead of a horse.

2) He seems a little compact. No neck and the upper arm seems very short.

Just a couple of thoughts. I really like how you draw the hair on both horse and rider. I like the way you capture the motion in the horse.

I can agree with Irate Customer here. The placement of the legs looks sort of out of place. The fella's doing a pretty amazing flex right now. Maybe it might work better if his knees were bent as if to support himself vertically, like a semi crouch. And perhaps his arms could use the same treatment. Perhaps the elbow could be brought down a little bit. Otherwise its a great.

Good technique and style. Two things I notice however are the hair on the horse and the headband of the rider are going in drastically opposite directions. If the horse is galloping forward the hair should be streaming back like the headband. This leads me to the second thing - the horse's pose is confusing; his front half seems to be rearing up but the rest of his body does not communicate this. If the horse is rearing up, it should be lifted up and back, balanced on its hind legs. if it is to be galloping forward, the legs must indicate this through extension and equal retraction. i.e., since the forelegs are recoiling up and back rady to strike pout against the ground and propel the horse forward, the hind legs must be at full extension backwards against the ground. Actually this would create a leaping pose. If it was running, legs on the same side of the body would be moving in opposite directions (right front leg out in front = right rear leg out in back = left front leg tucked underneath backwards = left rear leg tucked underneath forwards). ok that was sort of confusing, but watch a horse running in real life, on video, or find some still shots and see how they move their legs at different speeds (because it changes dramatically from walking to cantering to full gallop).
