Nice work Ben, a definite departure from your normal "style". I like the feel of this, keep it up. I think I would like to see it a bit larger, so we can see the strokes, and thought process. cheers!

my work just doesn't compare...
i've been wanting to suggest an exchange of art work, such as we can do each other's portraits?(HA! i'd prolly benefit more from it) i could use the practice on a differnt face other than my own. maybe i should start a new thread...

I like his one besides from a few things:
I'm not sure the brightest color on the face could be orange, it would probably be pink on the cheeks, yellow in the forehead and gry/green something on the jaw.
The face has a colorized orange look, and the green BG and brown shadow/hair colors doesn't intergrate the parts properly I think.
As for the face anatomy I'm not good with those things. It seems to me like the mouth looks a bit grumpy. It's placed a bit too far down from the nose perhaps? Or perhaps it is the curve under the rightmost cheekbone. I never draw that line concave. I like it being fairly straight.

yea prom your probably right, the green is a tad much, and it is rather orangeish. as far as the other things I tried to match the ref as close as possible, so.. =\

i think the eyes need more detail.. .the rest of her has many different values, but it looks like the eyes only have 1 or 2. she seems to have misplaced her eyelashes too.. i wonder where they went.. .. .

really terrific picture- I actually enjoy the pallet you use- just out of curiosity what's the original size of the portrait?

I freaking love your style of painting. I know you are looking for critiques, but I like it so much I can't look at it analytically. I just keep looking at it and wiping the drool from my mouth.
Very good work.
