I've tinkered and played with this a few times, but keep taking it off my drawing board in frustration, so I figured I'd throw it up here for some WIP crits:

The Saxophone flower wasn't blue to begin with, but I wanted to pull it out from the yellow of the turtle shell. (I think it was a mistake). I'm also feeling like the "anatomy" of the frogs is a bit off, but I'm not sure where it really needs fixing. Lastly, I'm inclined to add another light source coming in from the right side to help define the figures, particularly the sax player, but I haven't found a solution to that which pleases me. Ah well. Fire away!!

::EDIT- medium is acrylic & colored pencil on illustration board, roughly 11" x 14"

hey ben,
since most frogs are nocturnal creatures,
it might be cool to play around with the idea of a "late nite jam".
this is one of those things thats easier said than done.
but with some glazing, i bet you could acheive it without too much work.

Dan--

You nailed -on the head- exactly what I felt it needed. You are a scholar and a gentleman.

Seriously though, I'd really like to give Mr Dos Santos some incredible props. I've noticed in trolling the boards of late the amazing personal attention you give to your crits, including hunting down reference and modifying peoples work to show them what you mean. You are truly an incredible asset to this community.

Really cute & positive ... although I feel a bit sorry for the turtle :)

Id maybe make the turtle yellow a bit more orangie to make it fit in easier with all the red & green.

The other big thing Dan modified, besides the value structure, is the edges. I know they're a bitch to work in acrylics, but they're so important. Right now everything is equally sharp, and hence, equally flat.
