Ok here's mine...hope it's not too big

The idea is it's a gas cow or something and he drains the gas so it flutters to the ground far below. But...you knew that, right?

This was a fun one. It was very hard to keep myself confined to the 30 minute limit I have set for myself.

I may have to come back later and play with it more.

((( Came back later and spent some time coloring it. Perhaps it now is an hour total.)))

My second digital painting ever, and with only a mouse to work with- please don't be too cruel!

flcl - your idea is as cruel as good, I like it. maybe some coloring next time?:)
DarkArtist - good idea, a bit too bright overall, but maybe it's just me; I prefer them dark and heavy...
Peu - I find it a bit challenging to see at first sight what you did. that's due to the uncommon and exciting perspective on the one hand, I really like that, but maybe some shading could help to "read" the pic faster and with more ease.
SimoSK8 - yours is too funny, flipped upside down really does the trick. looks great, very clean and clear.
Phaeton - like it very much, nice colors, nice style, funny idea - lovely pic.
Hamsta - great painterly style, did you use the oils?

first time I commented the pics uploaded so far, please tell me if I offended somebody, if you don't want critique or if I was too harsh.

so, here's mine, PS, way more than an hour because I completely forgot saving and lost it when I was nearly finished the first time...why yes, I'm an idiot :upset:

(Channeling Hamsta here)

The Milk Pods of Lacturnia are the result of centuries of genetic research. Adapted to the vacum of space, these bloated, disembodied udders serve as artificial satelites, absorbing delicious nutrients from the planet's atmosphere. It then releases its milky excrement into the atmosphere, where it falls to the planet's surface in the form of precipitation.

when brute force doesn't work, the problem is that you are not using egnough.

:cheerleader:
Critique away! I for one am thilled to have it. I do belive that is the first comment anyone has ever made on something I drew here. It proves to me it was seen! Nothing inspires me to draw more then being seen.

I'll try and do something darker next time.

I wonder if I should move my 30 mins I give myself up into a hour?
Is there a recomended time limit for the daily sketches?

DarkArtist - glad to hear that.
I myself also love to get some feedback when I've posted somthing, otherwise it's a bit like mumblingtomyself about drawing.
there is a recommended time limit, the FAQ state you should limit yourself to 90 minutes, everything beyond can hardly be done each day, it would be exhausting.

bye :)

Personally, I spend anywhere between 15 mins to 3 hours depending on my mood and work constraints though my norm is usually more like 1 to 1.5 hours. I think an hour or so is a good amount of time for the DSG. I think it's more or less whatever you can fit in :)

demdike What have I ever done to you, why are you so cruel? :( :P
Most of my recent work is done using a pen variant - just take down the resaturation and dryout, and raise the bleed (all in well settings of the brush) and every brush starts blending nicely.

Your work has a striking first impression, but IMHO lacks on the follow up. The nicest spot seems like the "udders," the eyes don't seem connected to the body, they should cast some shadows. The alien seems pretty standard giant caterpillar fair, and the gritty textures are'nt working for me.

Aga- I assume the cows are found on those asteroids :P

I don't know how you created that starry background, but it looks very... noisy to me. If you are using Photoshop/the noise filter (or probably any other similar program), you can reduce the amount of dots there are by changing the brightness and contrast values of the noise layer.

a kick-arse way to make star fields in photoshop, little or no actual skill required, just follow the steps... i love it.

add http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/tuts_arts/making_a_planet.html to boost the sexyness.

there seems to be a nebula cloud tutorial on there too, im downloading it now :D

(this greg martin fellow actually makes me question my loyalty to painter)

heh

I think it can be done the same way in gimp, and once I fully learn it..painter. Be fun to experiment anyway.

@ flcl : cool idea .. I apologise for my following comment : It reminds me of indescent relationships between animals & humans ... sorry but that popped into my head

@ DarkArtist : Your first one looks IMO really cute .. reminds me of juicy gigantic strawberries

@Peu : Really like the perspective for that .. could end up really cool ... reminds me of the Matrix scence where Neo is shown as part of this gigantic human farm .

@SimoSK8 : Reminds me of some Moby video .. btw .. that cow in the background has a nice rear IMO :-)

@Phaethon : I love ur idea of a rural looking space ship :D

@ csteingart : Thats really good .. really cute .. would make a great add/poster for a foreign planet or so .. :-) .. has a really cool atmossphere IMO

@Aga : Finally I see something which doesnt look like smoth glossy digi art .. nice raw cool IMO :-)

:-)

dindon and karma police - thx a lot for tips about stars - very useful :}

Poohgee - thx, a big part of the image is a pencil drawing and on computer I just added colours
