••• Minor Edit here...for the sake of being a person and for anyone who gives a rats furry backside, My name is Eric. I don't bite...often and I am known to respond favorably to crits. I am just trying to learn and get better like everyone else.••••

Hello All!
I have lurked for a bit now, and I must admit that I am blown away by the level of talent, professionalism and overall courtesy exhibited herein. I suppose the next step is to dive in with vigor. Please help me learn and grow. Nobody special, just a newb trying to learn the ropes. Crits of all types most welcome. Knock me out of the park.
Most of this is just the random Flotsam of my mind. Meant to entertain me and or train my sketching skills. I will endeavor to update often. ;)

Most of the time I rough things out with a bluline pencil or with a hard pencil. sometimes stuff comes out a bit loose, but I try to make sketches as reminders to myself. Just trying not to let the ideas go by the wayside.

Well there is a quick little batch of things. I will try to get more up soon.
I am new to the whole forum thing, so I hope I posted this all correctly, and that these sizes will work well. If not drop me a line to let me know what to change.

This is some really cool stuff going on. I'm new to this forum, I really liked your angel winged female character, I love the color pallete. As much as you don't like the armor guy, I think he's really sucsessful. Nice stuff dude. Thanks for sharing.

I love the first two, and the colors in the acryllic painting are really nice. I also like the Batman. The only thing that looks odd to me are the lips on the archer. They seem abnormally long. Other than that, neat stuff! Keep them coming!

I stepped away for a bit to grab a bite. was not expecting anyone to have stopped by yet.

*pestopants thank you for the quick thumbs up! Nice to get a positive response so quick in the game.

*almaghest... thank you. It is amazing how long you can look at a piece and not see the obvious until somone else points it out. Grrr...must fix lips at some point. :O thank you.

Well here is another spillage of stuff...

A couple of quick sketches... just trying for forms and shapes

This is a moment from a dream that I had.
I spent a lot of time in the woods as I was growing up. This was a fun painting for me to do. I tried to "capture a feeling" for me it worked. Not sure how well it comes across to anyone else. This is an Oil on Canvas board

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/dreaming.jpg

A few observational sketches. There was this really old iron bench where I used to work where people would sit down and take it easy. It was a great place to sketch from.

Okay, I am trying to make this into a daily activity. I need to keep posting so that I push myself. Here are a few more pieces. These are more current.
All of this just starts out as a simple scribble just like the other sketches I have posted. As I fall in and out of love with the sketch I begin to develop it more...trying to keep the bone structure in mind. I feel that is 90 percent of the battle when trying to make something look "grounded" in reality. I don't know that I alway pull this off...but I try.

Here is an extreme close up head shot of a dragon. I was trying to get that "Nature Magazine" feel. I know that it causes some serious framing problems, but I wanted to see if it would work.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Dragon-Head-pencil.jpg

I am attempting to get the hang of digital painting....not really fond of it just yet. This is just a quick and messy color job. I will try to add more detail and better lighting as time goes by.....must keep working at it. :dur:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Dragon-Head-shot-Wip-1.jpg

I am completely taken in by the concept of perception. We all make snap judgements based on our first impressions...people, places...food. I Started drawing this one night with no clear idea in mind of where I was going. As I got further into it he seemed to develop a certain nobility to me. I wondered how people would perceive him. Good...or Evil. He is still a work in process, but I am hoping to get a little feedback on him before I go futher. I am not certain that I like this background with him. any Ideas or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. :er:

you have some nice stuff. you seem a little inconsistant though some are much better than others.

i like the last one a lot, nice rendering. i think if you made the background quite dark it would really make it pop.

Man, work truly sucked this week. After suffering a wretched migraine headache for part of the week, misery condensed on every surface at work today. Ugghhh...well surviving is half the battle.
For anyone who wonders or cares I am a pre-press Tech. for a printing company. Which essentially means that I am one of the last people to look at your job when you submit it to be printed. I adjust color space and fix missing fonts and links and perform other needed acts of voodoo to get things ready to run. It is a bit of work and it carries a small amount of stress. :upset:

I was not sure if I was going to be able to post today, but a promise is a promise. even if, or especially when it is only to yourself.

oven g Love • thank you for stopping in and peeking around. I guesthings do tend to look a bit scattered. As for the varying skill levels...what can I say.. Life sometimes takes a hand in things.... have you ever had one of those days when you could not sketch a straight line? I will also endeavor to create a better sense of chronology...or at least indicate when things are a little newer.

sly's hand • thanks for the kind words and encouragement. Sometimes we all need a bit-o-sunshine. :^^:

Here are a few fairly recent sketches.

A little back study that I HAD TO put some tech into..

Another tree and shrub extravaganza!

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/forest-scape.jpg

A big guy...I really like this one. Perhaps for no good reason, but I just have a good feeling for the way he turned out.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Ogre-grunt.jpg

And last but not least, an ink and pen sketch that I tried last night...not really sure how well it came out, but I am still trying to learn, so I keep pushing.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Ink-ed-Deman.jpg

Well I guess that is it for this eve. Hope you all have a nice night. Off to dreamy land

Well, it has beeen a few days now since
I feel a bit I have put anything up.
I have a few new things to post, as well as sharing a couple of older paintings.
I have to admit that I look around at some of these other artists and just shake my head. You guys are the most incredible collective talent I have seen in a long time. Kudos!

I feel like such an amature. Oh well practice, practice, practice. :P

To start; The first Acryllic Painting I ever attempted. :$
This is a few years old.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Gimmie-Air.jpg

Another old painting....ugh..terrible. Soooooo many things wrong with this.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Halo.jpg

OK. I posted the old stuff so I could kinda get it out of the way. It is my hope that as I continue to post some newer and more improved work, I will be able to look back thru this thread and see a clear line of progression.

About my sketches...to me there are 2 different types of sketches, First the quickest dirtiest sketch there is. Often this will be done in meetings at work, or when waiting for coffee, or any one of a dozen times. Second the study. This is what I use to figure out what the hell I am doing. What am I trying to convey? How do I get there? What do I need to learn before I go on with any given piece of art. I do a LOT of quick sketches.

A little doodle. Place marker for the brain...

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Hanging-out-Speedy.jpg

A marker and pen bit...trying to get a little light on the subject. :tihi:
Not pushing my values hard enough in my opinion.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Marker-Sketch.jpg

An inked piece that I really like. It is a challenge for me to produce an ink drawing that I feel satisfied with, so this was a first for me.
Just finished working on it today.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Lazy-Day-bw.jpg

And now some head shots I have been working on. Trying to get a feel for different Characters and dare I say it? Moods!

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Fuzzy-Pirate.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Pensive-Devil.jpg

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Pierced.jpg

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Orc.jpg

And there you have it. Ball is in your court. Tell me what you think. Let me have it. Please give me the vital feedback I need to keep growing. Have a fabulous time of it. Keep working! :teeth:

I like the inked piece. You do a nice job of suggesting grass without drawing every blade (something I'd like to learn to do) and also creating a pretty interesting small-scale landscape. The tree and the shadow under it, and the patch of tall grass behind, are especially cool.

I do think you could stand to have a little more variety of line widths on the figure, and maybe a little more black in the picture to improve the overall balance. Maybe more of a shadow on the figure?

your doin well in my opinion. I really like the view of that tree and the way the light is shining through.

Well this has been a great week for getting art work done. I have had a chance to do some more studies which I hope to upload soon. It is great to see people are leaving me some comments and critics

max1975 Thx for the nice comments on the inked piece...after looking at it with a fresh perspective I agree with you. The main figure could use a little more ink work.... I will try to get a re-work posted up soon.

Styler...Thx man! I really loved doing that painting. One of those strange sorta, "paint from the base of the brain", type paintings...going more for feeling and having fun while doing it.

So today I have a new Char. I will try to add a step by step progression on this one. That could be amusing. :dur:

Just starting to get a feel for the shapes and trying to figure out where shadows
are going to fall. still working on this, as I am posting. Kind of a "live" step by step.

Looking very good so far...make a mistake so I can criticize :)

Hard to tell at the moment whether those are scales or teeth at the mouthline...hope it's scales, it'd look weird if it's teeth. If it's scales, might wanna extend them up the face a bit...Do you have a particular animal for reference?

Heya max1975! Thanks for coming back to check on me. :teeth:

I had to leave for a bit to go bowling....I should have stayed home and kept drawing. pretty bad tonight...oh well.practice works for that too.

It is my intention that those will be heavy scales around the mouth. Hopefully that will make itself a bit more apparent as this moves along. So without further ado...step 3

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Horse-hair-prt-3.jpg

Okay, back to it. I will try to get one or two more steps up tonight if I can.

Hello there. You've got imagination, the will, and the skill for drawing. I know that if you keep drawing like mad you will blow our minds out sooner than you
think. Like the shading and the colours and the overall look to the drawings. Don't like the outline of your drawings that much but that will get better as you keep posting here (On some of the drawings the linequality has already gotten better). Will keep on following your thread.

Well howdy placeboast!

I just checked out your sketch book, some really nice, clean work you have in there. I like it. Thanks for the very kind comments, I appreciate anyone leaving their opinion, that is how I will sharpen my skills, on the grindstone of others...
Wow! that was way too corny and deep. I hope you know what I mean though. As far as my line work, do you mean my frustrating lack of varience in line thickness? If so I am trying to work that out a bit.

Well here is part four of the saga.
This is the part where I will say arghh. "Arghh!" I must stress at this point that using paper not meant for fine rendering with a pencil is only going to cause you grief in the long run. I started this guy as a spur of the moment thing. Never meant to work through it on paper which is FAR TOO SMOOTH. If paper does not have enough tooth to it you will never be able to lay down a dark enough shade contrast.. Eh, C'est la vie. :dur:

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Horse-hair-prt-4.jpg

maybe one more update tonight...if anyone cares. I am still going.

Peace.

Hello.

New image in the step through. Ughh.... not really sure if I care for it.
Must admit that I learned a lot working on this. But I still hate the color work.
This is most likely the last I will work on this one. Back to the drawing board. :nohope:

I am working on coloring the Duke of Hell.
Really want this one to turn out well. I have a specific end product in mind on this, but I would REALLY like to get a little feedback on this one. I am not treating it the same way I do with the sketches and color practice. Taking my time on this and trying to avoid big mistakes in the endgame by setting up a nice ground work at the beginning. After this post I need to rake a break for a bit. I have been sketching and painting ALL DAY, and I believe I might be suffering from art "burn in" of the eyes. :$

Anyhow here is a first step in a progression.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/DOH-color-1.jpg
Colors seem more washed out than they do in photoshop...hmmmm. Well I guess this gets the idea across.

all crits and comments MOST welcome please.

max1975
October 21st, 2005, 11:22 PM
I like the colors on the lizard guy. Duke looks a bit flat though. I don't think the background color's working very well, and the greenish highlights on his head aren't really very different from the blue...Try some complementaries maybe?

You might also bump up the contrast. A lot of the dynamic of the black and white version is missing here.

For a really quick fix to the contrast thing, try duplicating your background sketch layer and dropping it on top of the color layer, using vivid or linear light mode. If nothing else that'll show you some interesting possibilities.

Hey Max thanks for stopping by and dropping some crits. Damn I appreciate it!!

Uggh. I have not been feeling well for the last 3 or 4 days. Not much progress because of that. Sore throat killing me. Eh..oh well.

Here is a rework of the duke...trying different colors

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/DOH-color-test-2.jpg

And here follow some recent sketches from the old scribble book.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Sketchbook-hell-2.jpg

Had to scan this one in 2 parts ..not really feeling like matching the levels on both sides. It will suffice I hope. The four of you who come look at this thread won't mind too much I hope.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Sketchbook-hell.jpg

I don't know what to say ...I just drew this for fun. I guess.

I like this guy. Don't rightly know why.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/This-is-a-stick-up.jpg

Another recent Char. I hope to do some more work on him soon. After not looking at him for a couple of days I notice he has the skinniest legs on earth, not nearly enough meat to hold him up. I will try to work on him soon.

Wowzer!
I woke up this morning finally feeling better. Hooray for the miracle of sleep.
The body truly is a wonderous machine.
Now with my rapidly improving mood I will try to get another progression up a little bit later today.

Max1975 Thank you for stopping by and peeking. After changing the colors on the "duke" I had to give you a silent thank you. I feel that the lighting is MUCH better.

Placeboast I think you are doing a pretty good job of working your line weights. Very Cartoony. THX for the observations on my line work. For the most part I have always used the line work I do, just to get to the painting stage. Recently I have really started to try working on it for the sake of really improving the overall piece. As I think it lends a feeling of depth and mass at an early stage in the work.

Nutter Thanks for poking your head in here an looking around. You have some fantastic stuff going on in your SB. I love your characters. Great, fun expression. Thanks for the nice comments.

Well of to do some work related drudgery.

This is a little late, hehe, but way up at the top, the archer chick, looks awkward. Like, she looks like she's retarded. = ) (her head is pushed forward so far it looks like it's falling off her neck, which isn't directly beneath it, her lips are long and stretched into a goofy unaware sort of grin, and her eyes almost look crossed).

I really like the dragon stuff though, and your devil/alien looking heads.

Quick post for this Eve.

Bad Brownie Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I need to fix the archer. She is part of that "no archer left behind" program. Special treatment I guess. She is a drawing I did a year or so ago, now I will have to make her better. :dur:

So here is a 20 min sketch from tonight. Just trying out a different angle.

Hello, hello!

Ahhh.. life. If you ever feel too comfortable something is bound to show up and slap you around a bit. Sometimes things happen, which can very quickly dampen that creative spirit. After getting those moments sorted out I find myself doing more fragmented sketches, until I work through it. Then it all smooths out and comes back around to the good life again.

Fatkid Thanks man! I appreciate the nice comments. I have never thought about COW. But now that you have brought it up I will go investigate in an expedient manner. :rendered:

Here are a few new things.

First a quick doodle with the wacom....staying loose and fiddling around.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Tree-Mood.jpg

This is a little group of sketches I did on a note pad at work today while I was waiting for files to rasterize. I don't know how good they are per-say. However I was trying to draw something without using any frame work, or continuous lines. This was a drawing "sculpture" lesson for myself. I have not used this technique much, but I do kind of like the results. I will have to do more of this. This little group was 3-5 min. each.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Line-Experiments.jpg

Here is how I have felt for the last few days.... This is one of those cathartic things you do to get the stress out. After you have finished you step back and say "Whoa! That came from me?" I would love to see somone else color this. >:D

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Stress.jpg

A ten min. enviro sketch.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Enviro-sketch.jpg

And here is....a....pink, .......something. I don't know •shrug•

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Pink.jpg

So there it is. A little post to keep me moving, ever forward.

Peace :dur:

And here it is. Today is thursday...with not much new to show for the week. So I fiddled about a bit.

Some new stuff. A few speed sketches. Just a bunch of nonsense really. I will try to get something better up soon.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Zombie-Migraine.jpg

Here is an older pencil I did from a photo.. Eh....Kinda sucks now. Oh well.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Water-Hose.jpg

Here is one I did of one of my students. She kicks some serious butt! This is from a photo at a demonstration we took part in

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/The-Ivy.jpg

More noodling...

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Tinder-BW.jpg

Bald guy.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Tribe.jpg

And just a quick one for the fun of it. I imagine the last thing said before this moment was, "What did you say?"

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/What-did-you-say-.jpg

Anywho...that is it for now.
Back to it later this eve. Maybe.

Max1975 Thanks. I like to do pencil work. That drawing was actually a lot of fun to do.

Baki Thanks for checking me out. Yeah I do teach. Our style is Shorin-Ryu Matsumura. It is Karate from Okinawa. I have been Learning and training in it for 18 years. A fabulous way of life. Thanks for the kind words on the pencils! :bashful: I still need to add a little meat to that guys legs.

Seth1 I hate to admit it, but I really cannot stand digital painting. I feel so disconnected from the artwork. With a brush you FEEL everything! It is so fun to paint. But I guess the downside is the mess and the time required. I love to do Acryllic work, and I feel like I might be getting the hang of it. I do want to learn the digital though-the wave of the future and all!

Thanks guys for stopping by and writing in your comments and thoughts. I think evrything helps to keep us going. :)

It´s cool to see that there are still some of us left, who try to master the traditionall stuff :)

For your post#23:
*) What comes first into my mind is that you could improve it a lot by giving more attention to detail. One half of his/its face has some kind of melted or burnt texture. Usually there are much more wrinkles, bumps and scar like thingies going on there. look at a pic from Freddy Krueger to get the idea :)

*) Don´t be afraid to experiment. I´m trying to get away from my old "everything I make has to be perfect"-habbit. Get yourself a sketchbook, write "my shitbook" on it and practice all the stuff you feel that needs to get better. Obeserve textures, -> make graphic notes, observe light and shadow, -> make graphic notes, observe trees, stones, rusty metall.... and don´t show your drawing practice to anybody. It´s just for playing around. Try out different color combinations.
And you may want to have another sketchbook with stuff in it on which you apply all the lessons you learned in your shitbook. That way you´ll make yourself free from the pressure to make every pic excellent and will (hopefully) practice more. And with practice you´ll improve.

Hoorah!

I have to get ready for class real quick, but I wanted to make A quick update. I will drop back in later and make a coherent post. :$

A painting I am in the process of ruining.....*Sigh*

And another dragon. You can never have too many dragons!....Ever. :er:

Ruining? Looks good to me.

I was working on a big abstract painting a few months ago, and I had these big blocks of color, and my little sister kept yelling at me "Don't ruin it!" every time I wanted to do anything with them...so I decided that the whole process of painting is simply the ruining of a perfectly white rectangle, and I don't worry about ruining things anymore :)

Dragon is really cool too. I see you've gone with a farily human looking arm. I can never decide, when drawing a dragon, whether those limbs should be more like human arms or animal legs. Probably animal legs, I guess, since they'd be walking on them. But yours isn't exactly the standard dragon, so that's OK.

OK, I have a few minutes to sit down, take a deep breath and write back.

It is a wonder people ever get anything done these days. There are so many demands for our attention. IMO that is what makes these sketch books such an important tool. It gives me a sense of accountability. Granted there are not hundreds of people out there hanging on my every word. Or waiting, chewing their fingers down to nubs, hoping I will post again. :er:
However if only two or three people stop by this thread and make comments, then each one of those people becomes an important part of the process. I know I listen to every bit of advise, and every opinion thrown my way. We may not always see eye to eye, but input freely given is something we as people should learn to accept with an open mind. Whew! *puts soap box away*

Fat kid Great to know you are checking in on me. I will see what I can do about throwing something worthy into one of the weekly events. You are a catalyst for me. :)

Johnny78 Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a composed critic. I love working with the traditional materials. Nothing beats the sound, smell, and feel of real materials. As to keeping a shit book....whoo boy! I have a couple of those sketch books. Each crammed full with stuff that NOBODY will ever get to see. Sometimes I feel like that is all I do is practice. I would like to get back to working on a few pieces all the way to a "Finished" state.
On the Post #23, or Duke as I call him; It was my intention to create a denizen from a hellish-sort-of enviornment. Morphology of the Damned, so to speak. When I originally started drawing him I did not want him to be disfigured in the "classic" sense. I felt like that was just the way he looked. His natural state of being. A lot of the little details I had hoped to add in the painting stage. I was undecided on how I was going to paint him, digitally or analog. After tinkering with the whole digital thing I think I will try to paint him in the flesh. I will however think about adding in some more of the blistering pustules for a more developed texture. Thank for the Ideas.

Max1975 Hehe...thanks. It looks pretty good at that stage but about a half an hour after taking that picture I made a couple of poor decisions concerning color and texture. At which point, things went to hell on an express train. I will post up the bad pics as soon as I get a chance. I think it will be valuable to have them up as a comparison. Now I just have to figure out how to salvage it. :upset: Thanks for the Dragon love too btw. :)

Hello again. Long week.
I did not get a chance to post much this week. I have been busy working on a piece for this weeks CHOW. Trying to get something good enough to at least not embarrass myself with. Should have it ready by tomorrow. No sleep tonight. :^^;:

Here is a little project dump.

Holidays are coming too...

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/The-Sentinel.jpg

This is a painting done from pencil work from the artist on the book Pillow Case, by Paul Brundage. It was an Underground Publication about a hero who wears a pillow case on his head to fight crime. He consulted his magic 8 ball to make decisions. It was a fun project.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Pillowcase-1.jpg

I live!

Been busy with not art stuff.

Fatkid Thanks for the comments. Looking at the image I have posted up I can see what you are saying. The actual painting looks better. I think that area was a little muddled from the scan. That or I do suck. They are both viable options. :P

Max1975 Thanks mate! You know at the time I was thinking of the old Flash Gordon era weapons. Kind of Dorky - but - effective. I like the cheesy gold finish. They do seem pretty tame compared to the Harpoon though.

Working on an entry for this weeks COW as well. Let us see what happens with that.
The weekly entiries from people just blow me away. A very cool exercise.

Thanks again for dropping in here and keeping me going guys. It is appreciated!

Here are a few new things....Crap all of it.
Oh well more practice.

A speed paint 20 min...Digi.

A quickie monster. Ink wash with ink over

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Tongue-Fiend.jpg

And here is a fun one of Selma. From a magazine cover . Premiere I think.
The one thing I love about this one is it was done with transparent inks and a brush. NO PENCIL OR PEN. My hand was a claw after finishing this.
You know you have been painting for awhile when you have a large callous from where your brush rests on your finger. :x

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a118/Fractured1/Selma.jpg

So there is the crap fest for now.

The colors and lighting on all this stuff are great. Especially like the black girl partway up this page. The leg in the older oil painting you just posted looks a little off to me, but i'm not sure why.

November 30th, 2005, 12:03 AM
Welcome back! Love the lighting on the oil painting.

fractured1
November 30th, 2005, 01:08 PM
Warmaster Great to have a new face poke in here and leave a comment! Thanks! The leg looks off because it is all f@&#*ed up! Plain and simple. Her legs are supposed to be crossed over and her stance does not reflect this. Her hip is slighly off because of it..and there should be more displacement of the dress to the front to show her knee, which should be protruding more. Gack!

Max1975 Thanks..good to be back. The lighting is the only thing I like about that painting now. Well that and it was the first time I ever did oil glaze washes.

That is a great lesson. Looking back on that painting is painful. I learned a ton doing it. And I was sooooo happy with it at the time, but now I see so many freaking things wrong with it. •sigh• The great lesson is the change that is apparent to me now.

I think that painting is a steaming pile of baked beans now, but .......

More stuff tomorrow. I should have time to scan and update then.

Hello.

It has been a loooong time since my last post. Far too long in fact.
I have taken some valuable time to work on my "skills" such as they are.
I have no Idea if all the time I have spent has made much difference. At times I feel like I can see definite progress in my work, but most of the time I never think it is any better. Sigh...

I have been locked away in my studio working on my basics and just trying to analyze how i have been seeing things, then trying to change it around and approach it from a diff. angle.
I told myself I would post the "good" with the bad. I cannot express how much I would love to get feedback, opinions, advise ...etc. See something you don't like? Tell me. Want to do a paintover? DO EEET! God forbid, you want to use something in here to try coloring it, well the onus is on you.

Here is a giant steaming pile of stuff. Some nudity. That reminds me...How the hell do you edit the title of your thread..any one who can clue me in on this gets a cookie. I will attempt to post this somewhat chronologically from my last post.

masterpug Thank you for stopping by my sketch book. I really appreciate the comment. Glad you can see a big difference. It would seem that all those studio hours may be paying off huh? I will drop by your book in a few to check it out.

Spent some time this afternoon doing some Bernini studies.
The first one is the suck...sigh.
Tried doing toned paper with graphite and a white pencil...:S

Just for the record, it is my opinion that Bernini was the GREATEST sculptor
to ever live. His skill level was so far past anyone else it makes my eyes bleed. It does make me sad that my art is nowhere near good enough to pay him proper homage, however I will keep trying.

Okay,

So Captain Render monkey took over tonight while I was working on my Bernini. Not so sure it was a good thing to have happen. OH well. It has been another learning experience.
Don't know if I will do much more work on it from this point...I can see quite a few things of in the proportions now. Maybe I will make this a recurring exercise..redraw the same image every few months to see how I evolve.
Any thoughts?? Opinions?
Anywho...

Anyway here is a little fun one that I like for no good reason., she was just fun to do and made me smile. I gues there is a sort of sublime joy on her face..
maybe I am the only one who sees it that way, but then is that not the joy of art, how we all will see something different from everyone else?

and here is the ugly stuff. Some sketches that just do not look good at all IMO ...It is odd how you can be drawing something for a half an hour and never see all the things that are wrong with it. Then you get up for a small break and there it is, the horror staring at you. I need to hold more of my sketches up to a mirror, great way to see how badly you have screwed your proportions or skewed an angle.
I have no idea what the hell I was thinking with the second one.:(

Hey there, many thanks for swinging by!

Your pencils are just ace. The latest pieces have some top notch shading, really impressive! Not to mention the creature designs, loads of interesting and dynamic stuff going on there :)

The regular humans aren't quite as..intense? As cool as your critters are, maybe giving your fellow kin some loving wouldn't hurt ;) I see you're already doing solid studies so you're doing the right thing, you just need more of that good stuff! Milage, right? :)

Great SB, I hope you'll keep at it regularly. See you around!

Hello! A fine hot summer day out there!

AsaB Oh! thank you sooo much for stopping in to take a look around.
Ahh you are spot on. My human folk are sparse and not quite as well loved as my critters. I will see what I can do to remedy that. I take requests by the way.:tihi:

So, on to more human neglect.

Here is a WIP for a series I am doing. This is the Duke of one of the outer realms. As one travels farther from the center of what is known, shape and logic are not constants. I will try to get more in progress material up. I get so caught up during the process that I sometimes forget to stop and scan or take photos.

Let me know what you all think. Crits are welcome as always. :)

October, not really ready to start freezing my ass off yet.
Not ready ...

Been a bit busy, who isn't now days? :)

Max1975: thx for stopping by. And a big thank you for the good word on my pencils makes me feel like I am moving in the right direction.

Diego: Man I love your SB! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment here.

Destinyapocalypse: Howdy! Thanks for the good word mate! Going to check out your SB, see what goodness you have going on. :)

Here is a little project I have going right now. A guy I know from work approached me and said he wanted a Tattoo design done by me. A dragon to be specific. How freaking cool is that? So here is the dragon concept. I did several thumbnails to sort of set the tone and look of the beastie. there will be some design elements that will "scroll around" to the left and right side of the main figure. But I thought it would be cool to do some progress pics on this one. That way the 3 people who ever look at this SB will have a passing moment of fun. :)

Ah, turn your head away for just a moment, just stop paying attention to time and to life, and they will both pass you by.

Well here we are again, another year. Here are some various sketches and sundry. I have been working on some new painting techniques. For the most part I can claim that I am satisfied. Some of these are wonderful progressions IMO. Sadly a couple of them are mongloid relatives, shuffling around in the back yard of progress, twisted fingers digging and scratching. Hellish forms seeking succor and warmth, and occasionally eating the flowers.

So with out further ado, a menagerie. As always, stick it to me!

Cool stuff u have there... A D&D fan? :D I like your dragon and monster designs. I think for the lighting for some of your drawings can be stronger and more dramatic though. Work on pushing the form out.
