April 8th, 2009, 07:51 AM
nice work and progress , just a few things , i noticed that on some of the color studies , you kinda slapped some really acid colors that bags the viewer on the head like a mace , for example the one of the roman helmet and the yellow ball , the yellow , is to yellow , you need to bled it with the atmosphere and the reflection on the helmet , as well is strikingly rough
and on the one of the apple on the desk , the green on the apple has some parts where the color explodes , and it contrast a big deal with the blue box witch in its turn is has a very bright feel , maybe it comes into conflict with the orange from the apple

Oh, Adam, I'm such a dickhead, I was gona reply, 'thats a cool digital clock, where did you buy that?' then I noticed, it was a study, and that I wasnt on Facecrack anymore...duh...
Beautiful studies, esp the tin and flower one above, has inspired me to go hit the studio and do the same...
BTW - there are two empty studio spaces at our...studio. If you think you can afford it, maybe you and Cai together, let me know... Mx

April 17th, 2009, 10:18 AM
Lovely stuff, Adam. But those figure thumbs would be even prettier if you add some curves into the flow of the pose.. Which is why I suggested those nasty charcoal the other day. It's unforgivable so you need to hit the weights and gestures instantly and that helps getting the idea better.
See you soon, mate.

hi mate, some good updates!!
For your anatomical gestures, i think you gotta loosen up that linework some more, get more curves in there. maybe try some gestures using the negative space around the form as your guideline only, forget about the details inside the form. looking forward to more stuff!

SWEET UPDATE! it all kinda reminds me of Golden Axe, have you played it? just picture bird muscle guy about double the size of the skeletons who look great by the way.
I'm curious though, how do you figure out the poses for your characters? do you do mini gestures of different ones and then pic your favorite? (my current method...)

I have looked thru the whole sketchbook and I liked virtually everything about it, I'll return for sure. Truly an inspiration overload, thanks!
When you draw digitally, do you use photos for reference or is it all imagination? When you make those black-and-white invironments and the add color and athmosphere (like that closet one, man I loved that one) do you draw over the black and white or... whats the method? Where did you learn it? Perhaps you could recommend an instructional vid or a book or something?
Thanks!

In this one, I don't get the feeling the light is very believable.. Or the cast shadow of the girl has to be more subtle, or the light on the grass needs to be stronger.. I think it's the first one, because of the overcast sky, there's more ambient light reflecting into the cast shadow so it blends in way more with the surroundings
Last batch is superawesome!

Taj - Thanks, no sorry I've never played golden axe. I hear it kind of sucks, saw some nice concepts for it though. Sorry I don't really have a method, just try to choose one i think fits the attitude of the character. That or at least try to get it to sit in space properly.
Tandy1000 - ta
CastorFiber - Thanks very much. It depends, some of its imagination some is ref and some is from life. If its something ordinary its probably ref or life, and if its a skeleton warrior or whatever its from imagination!
