Koshime - haha i'd be inclined to agree with you there, but i'd chuck in fundamentals like value, colour and edges into the pot too.

Badger - Oh shit dude, I spazzed out when i lost mine once. I hope you find it, thanks for the kind words mate don't be a stranger. You going to be at the dnad by any chance.

Finally got round to watching the practical light and colour dvd and making notes, (which is awesome and well worth the money for anyone considering getting it). So to try and help some of it sink in I did a study from gladiator, colour relativity is hard...

Btw i know the faces suck, like i said lighting and colour study. I don't have enough brain power to do more than that at once.

Hey Void! Great stuff mate. Tell me something: When you paint over the b/w stuff, what precess do you use? A multiply layer above all?
I really like your use of the texture in perspective. I should steal that from you.
Cheers!

UnSharpened
June 8th, 2008, 04:07 AM
I am getting to love your style more and more<3, specially your character design. I don't think that your colour is your weakness, but they sometimes appear unsaturated. That may be caused by the approach you paint over the B&W paintings, which I reckon that's your style as well:P.
Great work anyway, looking forward to see more! And 5 stars from me:P.

you got killer concepts!!!
the uni project is great, enviros and characters
and props, all very well executed
and very creative shapes and forms
so coooool :-D !!

all the images read very well and have nice values
the shield that warrior is carrying is awesome,
very impressive execution
also i like how you rendered the guns.

dunno what else to say besides that that i like your work :-)

best wishes!

camara - cheers, i just followed the steps in the colours thread

dan valkar - thanks

Form - thanks, yeah i should be able to get back to it now that uni is done and dusted. Definitely!

lennon - there are no rules only tools, something that works for one image doesn't necessarily work for another. A mix of curves, colour, overlay layers and straight paint, hope it helps. No worries, i can't remember who i stole it from.

Unsharpened - thanks, not sure what you mean about saturation, glad you like them.

Sublimus - yeah its growing on me more and more.

Jon - ta, thanks for dropping in dude

gabo - Thanks for dropping in here, ive been admiring your stuff for a while. I found some of the stuff you said about choosing the hue value and sat for each stroke, i think thats something that im going to have to work on. Im sorry to say the shield is pure cheating, its just a door chopped up!

Ive been really busy with uni so ive only been able to paint on colours or draw in my sketchbook, but i can't be bothered to scan. So here be the colours...

Mind blowing environments , congrats and the characters don't look so bad either , one thing though , i see you seem to have some problems with color, 2 examples , the environment with the tower at #755 i think it has to much magenta , you could keep that only in cretin spots on the sky , or in the last head series , the last one of the series , the one colored with magenta and cyan , the color of the head doesn't add to the picture , you should try to reflect some magenta into it, colors usually reflect into the skin ... for now ^^ cheers

I like your sketches of machinery and robots, they're very sober and straightforward (they remind me of the mecha and smaller robots in the Front Mission games :)). I don't know really man, I think ultimately the orginal sketch is the one to prefere. I guess the increased contrasts make it pop some more but other than that it's pretty neat as it is. It's definately portfolio material if you show it with a couple of other sketches, as a whole piece.

Idiot apathy - don't worry dude I get that after indian food too

elker - I never use painter, because I can't. I don't really like the brush engine and its buggy with an awkward UI. Just PS for me thanks, although if adobe could add canvas rotation and resat that would be cool. Oh and a shortcut for the colour picker window. thanks.

I really like the simple shapes in your designs, and the clean pencils. They seem to work well together. :)

very nice robo designs mate, really dig your pencil sketches, the spider is my favorite, but how these big legs are connected to his body? to me it looks a little bit like these legs are something like his disabled chair

best regards ;)

D@niel, Zanzan, ManiakS, ^slayer^, Diego, Farvus, micheviouslittleelf, hideyoshi, Flaskpost, Sublimus, Wasker, RedGallo, K+?, Peter Berkovski, Brinkman - Thanks guys

Idiot Apathy - Ill try to get some more dynamic poses in from now on, thanks dude.

Gringo, Pseudocognition, Piemonster, Call0ps, Idiot apathy, Walid D - Thanks

Hideyoshi - A little dramatic! I really liked the batman speedpaint you did lately.

crazy3dman, interceptor, Sublimus - thanks

Texahol - I don't really have a set process at the moment. Most of the time I start of just eyeballing it, then if i think that its worth taking further ill use the line tool to lay in a perspective grid so that it actually makes sense. I sometimes use kbots perspective grids aswell. That was from one of kevin chens pages. You can find loads of his stuff here, http://www.characterdesigns.com/index.php?sitepage=tutorials.

Kidult, jozulus, wesburt, Eursaces - Thanks guys

ZweiDee - Good thanks, I hope you've got stuff at work that isnt so hard to 'find the joy' atm. Cheers dude glad you like.

Strybjorn, oalexis, Espenboi, Euphemism, Call0ps, Yor, D@niel , Hazart, Piemonster - cheers

Interceptor - glad you like it dude, will do.

Juhani Jokinen, Peter Berkovski, Fast art, Sublimus, Thanks guys
