Hi! This is my first time posting an image on this forum as I have just started my training as an artist.

This is my vision of Kivutar, ancient finnish goddes of pain and suffering.
Her name translates loosely as Lady Pain.

All Critique is warmly welcome.

i don't know about that goddes so i don't know how she is supposed to look like but the body is squashed. her torso is too wide and arms are too short. some face proportions are off on both. on the lady's face:the ears are too small and high, the mouth and lower chin is way too big, and the nose is too manga-ish (which does not go along well with the rest of the image). on the poor guy's face: the eyes are too high (the eyes are at the midline of the face from front view), the ear is again too small and high, and the mouth/chin is too big.

that's all i can criticize. i'd say u should mind your proportions more, and do anatomy studies. spending too much time on a piece makes it harder to see the mistakes. something i do to overcome this is, after i lay down the general structure, i close my sketchbook for some 5 minutes or so, then returning to the drawing with a fresher mind;) also looking to it on a mirror tricks your brain as if you are viewing a different image.

although the lines get sloppy form time to time, the line quality is good overall. i especially liked the use of lineweights. and i liked the "detailed but not overworked" (shortly "refined" :bashful: ) look.

the last thing is you made a pretty nice start to your training:) keep it up...

I like her
But shouldn't she been in the scetchbook forum?

Anyways
First of her arms to short and thin for her upper body
Second Her chin is kinda of if she isn't supose to have a halfmoon shaped face
And her ears are too smal for her "big" face

There are some stuff to work on but mainly you just need to study the "human" body some more

Hang in there
Its frustraiting but rely rewarding when you get there

iīve never heard of a god called Kivutar ...And i happen to be from finland..who is she?
okay i kinda like those eyepatches.
but there is alot of things that could be fixed. her head is way too big compared to the rest of the body. And the hand is too short. her middlebodu is also too short.. u should strech them.

Thank you all for your feedback.
I try to erase some of the most obvious problems such as length of arms when I start finishing it with Photoshop.

Magicade, we finns don't even realize how strong deity culture our country had before christianity arrived. As for Kivutar, there's not really much information about her, so her looks become pretty much from my imagination. Here's little info though: http://www.godchecker.com/pantheon/finnish-mythology.php?deity=KIVUTAR

A web search for the name turns up a bit more...
http://www.pantheon.org/articles/t/tuonela.html
http://www2.uiah.fi/~ppeisa/tuonela.html
http://www.varttina.com/recordings/ilmatar/lyrics/ (a descriptive song about kivutar, about halfway down the page)

There seems to be some debate though, whether Kivutar is a sister of Kipu-Tytto, or whether this is just another name for her, as Tuoni had 4 daughters, although some sources only credit 3, Kalma (spirit of death), Loviatar (an aspect of the goddess as hag) and Kipu-Tytto (or Kivutar), (daughter of pain) and Vanmatar, (daughter of suffering).
This (http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext04/kalec10.txt) is the best reading of the folklore story, though...

Hooray, I can see the pictures!
Oh. Well, maybe not quite hooray...
This is bad anatomically. No arguement.
The face is too long for the body.
The lower arms are too short.
The "ears" are too high and badly rendered.
The nose is just bad, and does not look like a nose.
The right hand shows no knuckles.

This piece is inconsistent in some extremely obvious ways, which is ruining all of your good work in design, the rendering of the body, the effective lighting of the latex dress, the blind eye patches, and the head.

Side Note: If this is the blind daughter of Torin, then she is NOT Kivutar, she is Loviatar, also known as Lowyatar, or Lu'on-no'tar. She was not the goddess of pain and suffering, she was the Originator of the Plagues. She was the only one to be blind, and she was black, malignant and loathsome, the nastiest and worst of Tuoni's daughters, and the source of every evil on the World...

This piece is moved from CC to SWIPs, as it is a WIP, but is not meet the technical standards of the Critique Center as regards development.

Thank you for your feedback, madster.

And no, this is not the blind daughter of Torin. As far as I know, finnish deities have no relations with norwegian gods. Her blindness is my own gimmick. Just wanted it to look painful.

EDIT: Just few more notes: I wanted the ears to have elfish or "battish" or even "rattish" look to them but obviously I didnīt make very good job with them. Any tips how to make them look actually believable?
