View Full Version : Do you make faces?

My niece was loitering around my desk one of these days, doing all the funny things 6 years old kids do.
Suddenly, she looked at me and asked:" -Uncle Zeu, why are you upset?"
>Shock<
"-Me, upset?"
I looked at the picture I was drawing where there was this 8 feet tall goliath looking menacingly at the hero and understood what had happened.
Because it´s always happeneing.
If you look at me when I´m drawing a happy face, I too am grinning delightfully.
When I draw the hero experiencing excruciating pain, my face too contorts in agony.
Is this good?
Bad?
But more important.....
Do you do it too? :D.

I do this too, actually. It is like you personify the character ever so slightly while you draw it. :)

i do when i'm painting, or so i've been told, but it's not really that rare, in painting class one day the model had this horrified look one time seeing all the students squinting and grimising while painting.

I've been told that usually I just look like I'm concentrating, but sometimes when I'm trying to figure out what an expression looks like you can see me making odd faces and feeling my face with my hand :bashful:

I have been known to do that, yeah. I'll also usually do that whenever I'm bored and a mirror is nearby... oh, and I've been told I sometimes pull funny faces when playing guitar, too... although Gary Moore was the worst for that, I think. :)

I do. I also make sound effects.

When I was a kid I used to make sound effects as I drew without realising it. I should try starting that again, it might help!

Not sure, probably. And sometimes I dance a little. Gosh, I feel soooo sexy while drawing. <3

I make the faces of the expressions I'm drawing. My pals all find it quite funny.

Of course! I also sing, talk, and gesture while I'm drawing. Sometimes I even carry on perfectly normal conversations with myself as two different people in different poses and with different personalities...
...and no, I'm not commitable. It's perfectly normal, especially for someone with an illustration/cartooning background.

Probably I do. A friend of mine who used to do life modeling told me that one of the things to pass the time in class was to watch the faces the students were making while working.

i dunno if i make faces when i draw.. my girlfriend says i get all serious and "into it" so maybe i do... i tend to make noises when i draw tho
its not a bad thing to make faces because your "feeling" the emotion
when i was a kid i used to make all kinds of strange faces in the mirror while getting my hair cut :)
o yeah and i get my "rock face on" also while playing guitar which reminds me i should pick it up again

Thats called "getting your rock face on"! :P I also sing, whistle, make faces and everything else when i draw. Sound effects are also important. Funniest shit is when i draw people with their mouths wide open. Can you guess what happens then? :D

I'm not sure if I make faces. But I know I chew on my tongue when I'm concentrating - just like a big 'ol piece of bubblegum! Weird huh?

hahh! Sady: I dance while I'm painting also, when I get really happy I did something I like, i dance. Usually I have music on though and no one is around. I don't dance when other people are in the room. My post should be in the confessions thread because I have never told anyone or has anyone ever seen me do the painting dance, hahah not even my boyfriend :)
I don't know about the faces though no one is around to tell me if I do so.

Yes, I do it too. My family thinks I'm nuts, my students think it's funny. I didn't know I was doing it until someone mentioned it.
However, when it comes to drawing expressions on comics characters faces, I use a mirror to fine-tune the little things that make an expression... er... expressive! :confident

I dunno... If I make faces when I draw I figure my wife would've mentioned it by now. Sometimes if I'm having trouble figuring out what a particular character's expression should be, I "try it on" as it were... but that's totally conscious, so I think it's different.

Poise: Yeah. And usually I´d never dance in public (unless quite drunk, wich is not that rare, oh well). But I just did it last week in a drawing class, we were drawing standing and with background music and... :nohope:
