Art school portfolio

I want to apply to art school but just don't know what to put into a portfolio. All I really have are sketches and things and I'm worried that it won't be enough. If anyone knows where I might be able to go to see examples of other art work at this level it would be appreciated.

I would go to www.npda.com, find a National Portfolio Day in an area you can get to, and go whenever it is. There art colleges will critique your portfolio and you will be able to see other peoples portfolios.

Its a very interesting process.
