Color Management

I've got a little problem - I'm half way through a painting in photoshop and I realized that when I open the file in a different program the colors are way off. I don't fully understand the way color management works, but is there a way to convert the file to look the way that it does in photoshop?

Could you provide more specifics? For instance, what's the other program you're using? Also, are you working in RGB? (Look at the top of your image, in the bar that says the file name.)

under view where it says proof setup, monitor RGB is selected, and when i have "proof colors" checkmarked, it shows what the image looks like in every program except Photoshop (including just the basic preview). When it isn't checkmarked is when the colors are fine. What I would like to know is if there is a way to convert the colors to the way they look when proof colors isn't checkmarked...

You may need to calibrate your monitor. You should have it set for Adobe RGB, and you don't necessarily need to care what it looks like in other programs, except a very few that are not Adobe related (like Painter).

Check the Adobe forums. This issue comes up fairly often, and there are various ways to approach it, depending on your situation...
