2 Dudes riding a crashing russian aeroplane,
I was working on this one for the CG talk Spectacular challenge.
But stopped at this point and dumbed this concept...
(this is a 60% final image) I would haved finalized the colouring and added lighting fx and particles and distorted the image to have a fisheye lens feeling to it.
However i realy want to win something so i figured that i rushed the concept, so i dumped this one.
I will try a fantasy setting now.

The following bike needs to be outlined or somehow brought out of the background. Its hard to see him.

Is that Bono riding a motorcycle?
Anyway, I only like the Bono-dude, you should work on that background.
Not the city, that's pretty good, maybe a bit less blurry.

if this is your rejected piece, i'm dying to see your good one.
tell me about your process.
are you sketching from your head, and then creating a 3d rendering to match the sketch?
photos?

- first of all i take my time constructing the scene in my head. I am no big fan of thousand concepts and scetches, i deen do save time.
Then i make a very simple sketch and search for reference material.
I can not paint a realistic bike from head, so i need research.
Then i start painting in Open Canvas or Painter, i paint directly with colour, i don't draw complex line work unless i want a comoc look.
I work out chapes and leave some details blank. some geometry may be to complex to hit the right perspective without spending time and effort, so i simply create dummy objects in max. For some strukture and materials i use textures.
I often use reference on lighting but not from the same object. I dunno how to put it in words, but when i see a very interesting lighting, for example a wet stone in the evening sunlight, i can apply this lighing to a tank, a mecha or a vehicle, whatever.

Your rendering on the motorcycle is almost life-like, only thing that gives it away is that the lighting on the front wheel is wonky making it appear to be bent. I think you could have pushed the background a little more though. All in all, this is really cool, keep up the good work.

Wow this peice is really amazing, even if it's a rushed job. I do have two concerns though. The rider in the back is really blurry. I didn't reallized there were two riders until I read the description. Second is, are those supposed to be miniature bikes or are futuristic bike supposed to be small? Compared to the rider, the front wheel is only twice the size of his head. Let alone the fore shortening perspective. Other than that, this piece is marvellous. I love those details. <3 Oh yeah! Advent Children Rocks!!
