I don't normally do mechs, and this is my most complete one ever. I did however nearly copy a drawing off the net. I suck at mechs and i wanted a cool starter so i used one i found on google. Please don't flame me for that. Anyways i'm not sure if there is a mech thread here, so feel free to post mechs in this thread.

Here's a link in case it doesn't work: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/4269/bettermech7fr.jpg

Keep in mind, all my pieces are sketches. This was a rather lengthy one at that, but is a sketch. I haven't cleaned up the lines or anything. Also the scan was pretty bad.

Might want to resize it a bit smaller.

Neat though.

Hmm, not bad, but it would be nice to see some shading just to give it a little more shape. good start for a first mech though.

cheers

If you're going to copy someone's artwork, you'd better at least give them credit. The actual artist behind this is Ed Lee.

On the other hand, Jinsu I like your design, would be nice to see you put some more work into it and finish it up.

Sorry about the filter there. I accidentally put it and saved it without realizing it. So bear with me here.

What is the point of copying? I'm not flaming you here because you did say you copied it, but what do you gain. You should stand or fall on your own work. You will learn more that way.

Well, maybe he's just starting. I mean, I when I started drawing anime, I copied DBZ and stuff, till I finally got a somewhat original work. And I think everyone or almost everyone has done the same before.

Thats true. We all have to start somewhere.

Exactly, like i said this is like my first true mech. I did a few originals before but none look any good, or seem able to move. That's why i decided to use that one pic as a ref/guide type starter.

Copying in the manner of learning is legit. Those ancient times the master would ask his apprentice to copy his art for study methods. And its good for learning styles and lines to develop a new one that is unique.

Besides the guy didnt say he wanna rip off or whatsoever.

I agree. I'm sorry if what I said come across in the wrong way. I just meant that it is important not to copy to much because at som point that crutch will be removed and it will be difficult to go on without it.

I like the assassin machine! The motion blur on the eyes is a clever way of adding movement.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-12/901593/skdgundam.jpg I was well into gundam in school and did this for an A-level art project. What worries me is that was... 6 years ago and i still sort of like that logo..

here is an old design, its about two years old. The "shield" on his left arm is actually an aftermarket Civic front bumper, lol. I did the design as a concept for a performance auto shop, they were looking to do a t-shirt. I ended up scrapping this idea for something totally different. The cleaned up line work was done in Corel Draw. Its an original design, but I was admittedly influenced from Gundam and Five Star Stories designs.

ok now here is a reference pose of yours truely, I'll show you why Im posting this in a second:

http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com/TC/mech/100_0357.JPG

now taking that pose, and using my mech design from two years ago as inspiration for something new, I start doing this:

http://www.wholesalehyperformance.com/TC/mech/stage1.jpg

the scan is terrible, and it is in VERY early production. From here I am gonna start a new thread with this design, to show the progress on this piece until it's done. Can you see where my old design is influencing my new one? Look for the new thread this weekend.

That looks really cool. I wish I had a digital camera, that way i could make my own reference pics.

a digital camera helps, thats for sure. however you still have to admit there are millions of other sources. Have your friend, brother, girlfriend / boyfriend, or whoever pose for you. If you find it easier to draw from a 2D source, well then number one keep practicing drawing from life, and number two find pics off the net, in magazines, etc. As you can see I only used the reference pose for limb placement, (maybe you cant see that yet since its a WIP), but the reference pic was minimally used is what Im trying to say. when drawing robots, androids, or large mech, I really start out with basic shapes and just let me imagination run wild. The designs often end up in places I didnt expect, and many times those are the best designs! Keep drawing bro!

Not Bad. Looks like a cross between Golden Age comics and Egyptian style characters. My one complaint would be his Left Arm. You kinda lose focus of his hand as it seems to merge with his leg and the blade thing is unrealistically balanced. Other than that, it's looking nice.

It's been a while since I posted, anyway; my avenger mech!
