*** NEW STUFF AT THE BOTTOM ***
Hey!
Well, I've been lurking around for quite a while now at CA, learning tons and have been asked by Robolus several times to finally get around to post my sketchbook junk. And thats exactly what I'll do now. I hope I can keep the thread as often updated as possible. It will force me to push even more, I hope.
Enough talking, lets start with the good part. Looking forward to your criticism.

This is a good friend of mine who majors in illustration. The drawings is prolly over half a year old.
X
This right here is some newer stuff I made in Berlin riding the subway.
X
More to come!!!
Peace. Pierre.

good stuff, the subway sketches are the shit! lots of character in these.
i got tons of berlin subway sketches floating around myself, not of that quality though. let's see some shading or colors, the lines look very promising!
funny how robolus urged me to open a sketchiethread, too. i think he gets paid to recruit ca members.... :ninja:

Your style is quite contempary.

nice stuff. I really like your line work. it's quick and fluid and with just the simplist stroke you show form very nicely.

Helloe there! This is a v. good SB, I cant wait to see it develop and progress. :teeth: Like Badger said, nice confident lines...good work.. and keep on posting, and just keep on pushing yourself to the top...Looks like you need to work on your rendering from what I have seen so far...and it would nice to see some finished lines, like the very first one..and its nice to see drawings not just on white paper. thanks for sharing..and good bye :ninja++:

Wow, thanks for all your comments! That really motivates to keep pushing and pushing. :teeth:
nacho - Thanks for the nice words. You should post your subway sketches! Whenever I am in Berlin I love it to draw all those people in the subway. I smiled, too when I read in you sb that Robolus made you start your own thread as well.
Badger - Thanks! I guess that's a deal then. What do you mean with contemporary?
Rodrigo - Sure thing - I will post more! When I came home last night and checked on my thread I was really pumped up with motivation! Thanks!
GunTrouver - Yes, sir! I am from Germany, too. I'll be heading to Leipzig in less than two weeks. Where do you live at?
fat kid - Yeah, we were both sitting across each other at this small kitchen table with our papers. I still cheerish that moment. Check out the drawings at the bottom - I scanned in another drawing that I made that night, when she was posing for me.
Jason Snair - Thanks, man! I checked out your sb, and you've got some nice stuff going there, too.
Rebecca - Hey there, thanks for the encouragement. As for the colored paper ... actually i can't remember where I got this paper from but it was really nice to draw on.
Robolus - My friend, sorry for turning you down so often about opening a sketchbook but I'll try my best to keep this kid going and grow. About the landscape drawings - give me a day or two and I'll scan in some ish, cuz I have this stack of Spain-landscape drawings lying around here.
ruhigblut - That's nice to hear! I'll be coming to Wismar on Sunday night and hang out with y'all for two or three days. So, get your drawings together, cuz I am curios to see what you've been up to.
***Allright, here is the small update, then.***
X
This is Takeshi, I met him while both of us were standing in the line to get into the Goya exhibition in Berlin. Nice guy, who was so kind to write down his name in japanese next to his portrait. He was visiting friends of his in Germany and recently quit his job at a car factory.
X
That was a really quick drawing of an atelier in Leipzig, which I colored at home afterwards. Just having fun and playing around with the colors and to see how going over another color would affect it and what nice mixtures it would cause.
X
X
Quick gestures of people hanging around and an Italian couple who was sitting with me on the train to Berlin. Sorry for the middle part, which is left out white, but Ive got this huge sketchbook (9,5 x 13 inches) and its somehow falling apart already and I had trouble with scanning. So just think of it as a double spread in my book.
Hope you dig it!

Jason - Thanks! I like this one too, actually. But probably more because of the connection I have with this. It's actually a drawing of one the ateliers in the artschool, which I am going to start my studies at soon.
Diego - Aight, will continue posting. Thank you for the kind words.
Well, I guess its nothing fancy for today, but I went out last night for the cultural night in my town, where cafés where opened all night, Live-Bands playing on the market, light shows and shit like that. So I got around doing this one drawing, with my new ball-point pen - besides that I just got involved into too many good conversations.

Love that latest one. I ment contempary because it reminds me of the line work of a lot of 'fashionable' illustrators and artists at the moment, and take that as a compliment, it doesn't look like a clone, your style is till very unique.
Love those little strokes your put in the hair and your treatment of negative space :)
keep on rocking (in a senstive yet confident style) he he

Hey Pierre, I like your sketching. And big sketchbooks are goody, cause you start to throw your lines at the paper instead of dipping tiny ones.
And it seems you are from the same town as me and you are also visiting the same cafes (Jazzcafes) for drawing. Do you want to start at the HGB?
Gimmie a hint if you are around in the "Protzendorf" and we might meet there.

The pic from your move to leipzig is well executed. You have very selfconfident lines in there, I like it. And I think that these skull and skeleton studies you are making are a good way to get the feeling for the human head & figure.
You only gotta work on your architecture drawing skills. Maybe it helps, if you try to concentrate on the outlines and main edges only. Keep away those shadings for the beginning, the rendering can come later I think.
Keep up!

hey guys!
here is another bunch of pics. the first two are from a portrait session at school. the drawing with the two guys sitting, was an exercise where we were supposed to contruct them into the space of the room, got another four of those lying around (from different angles) and the last two are life drawings from the other night.

hey guys,
could not sleep so i thought i could do a color study (45min) of my desk as i
have it front of me. the exercise i told me to do, was to use not any layers,
multiply mode or opacity but to match the value just by eye sight. i would
appreciate any criticism. thanks :)

hey pierre, i'm sorry I didn't check back sooner, this thread is definitely worth it with all these great figures and studies....the gestures are my favorite, you really have a sense of how to capture a person with an economy of marks..I've done the draw a person while they draw you, makes for some dynamic expressions! keep working at it, I'd love to see somre erally finished pieces, looks like you could impress us!

thanks for the replies guys!
poise i just started studying at the art academy three months ago and i got another 4 1/2 year to go, hehe. but its been quite fun so far. i'll work on the value thing. we had two sessions yet where we had to build the drawing by value only, i dont have pics of them though, but it was a big learning experience and ill try to focus on that in future life drawings. stay tuned.
that fat kidthanks for checking back. i sorta fucked up on the updating too, so soryy for that, but ill really try my best to update regulary. im digging your sb as well, man. and the thing about "i draw you, if you draw me" - yes, this is really fun. what also helps is, if you dont look at the paper but try to be confident on putting the lines down on your paper while you "draw" what you see with your eyes. so that your eye and your pencil are always on the same area and always go by the same speed, if you know what i mean. those contour drawings look quite crazy at the beginnig but it helps tons.
kinnas thanks - just keep on drawing and drawing. thats always the best and have fun!
jeff jaws thanks for dropping a line and yes youre right i am studying at the hgb in leipzig, but im afraid to tell you that i dont study painting there but graphic-design.

alright, so here are some new studies that i made during an afternoon in the city. mostly gestures again.

hey pierre; nice seeing your stuff progress. those skulls are looking REALLY tight. keep it up with those studies. with your life drawing, remember to draw the structural lines before you start detailing, this will help you getting the figure to look a little more balanced. :)

oh man, im such a dick on updatin'. well, anyways, as i dont own a computer and i only can work digitaly on the 'puter of my parents i'll just have this ish as an update. so... it was my dad's b-day and we celebrated it quite well, im sorry for this being the only thing i got right now to put up online (no scans - quite lazy to be honest on scanning that ish - im feeling like such a jerk, man) .
Taj ------- hey thanks for the encouragement. please do go and sketch! show it to us, im looking forward to it - and sorry for the long takin reply...
concerning the pencils - yes i am using something softer than 2B. actually its 4B most of the time. but being quite honest i dont really care, as long as it doenst smudge too muge. i guess 4B is the softest i use. hope it helps.
Odds ----- Yes, man - thanks a lot for the critiques - and you're right. i tend to forge to build up the understructure and getting to quick on the line drawing. i'll focus on that!
steak-tron --- oh shit, man, you dont know how i felt like seeing you post on my sketchbook. im digging a lot of your stuff ive seen recently! thanks on that! and thanks for liking some of the stuff i am putting up. i am not very well equipped computerwise, so i wont have many updates i guess - sorry, im feeling quite lame bout it...
robolus - thanks!!! did you get my mail. i am quite concerned cuz i got a new account from our school and i hope my email to you didnt get caught as spam...it'd be nice to talk to you again sometime!

Went to Münster last week - hanging around with good friends of mine.
I was also looking at the etchings of Hopper, whose prints really blew me away. Been then doing lots of value stuff lately. I got a stack of post card sized value studies of his and Degas' works at my place in Leipzig lying around. Once I get back there I'll throw them on the scanner. Will be reading the short excerpt about value by Loomis as well.
If you guys know any good infos about value - give me a hint.

First of all thanks again - and thank you for your patience as well as I had again problems with my server. Which explains why there where not any images online from yesterday until now. Many thanks to Robolus for I was able to put the last images back online due to his effort. The server problem will be cleared during this week!
tensai thanks a lot, man! I looked at your stuff and found those incredible drawings of the city landscapes. thumps up, pal!

frog and *BAM* muchias gracias!
patdzon thank you patzdon! i am glad you're enjoying these! about my eye sight... i wear glasses, damnit ;) :dad:
ArcoNL thank you for the kind words and commenting! i think this is part of the community to share and as far as this goes ive learned a lot just by the stunning artwork posted on these boards and it keeps one busy!
Icey thank you for your honesty and for the stars! i'd be interested to know which sketches you rather liked. but as you can see i had server problems yesterday and most of the stuff got pulled from my server. only the last post is back online. anyways, thanks for your encouragement!
sleeperservice hey sleeperservice! thanks for coming by and looking at my stuff! i didnt study anywhere particulary but i started a half year ago to study at an art school (HGB Leipzig). Still most of foundadtion is self taught by reading a lot and keeping my eyes wide opened. I am constantly learning just by drawing from life. Thats all I could suggest, I think.
More to come,
