Doom and gloom in the Employment Discussion, fueled at least in part by my own jobhunting frustrations. :dead:

In a world filled with les-than-favorable situations for someone who wants to make pretty pictures and still keep the lights on, what does one do when presented with the onslaught of work-for-hire jobs or jobs that pay far less than what they should?

The nature of the sadly unregulated market is such that there will always be someone hungrier than you adn more willing to do the job, ergot prices will stay low and contracts will stay harsh about 90% of the time.

So what's an atist to do? Do you suck it up and do things that, essentially aren't worth your time, do you take the heinous (but reasonably well-paying) all-rights contract, or do you wash your hands of it all and resign yourself to the unfulfilling, but monetarily speaking, rewarding, Jay-Oh-Bee?

if you can't make ends meet... take a job as close to art as you can. and work on your freelance and portfolio at night. it's not easy getting established as a professional. starting out you are competing with everybody and peoples 14 year old nephews who like to draw. -crawley
