I probably don't have near as much experience with print as some of you, so please be patient with me if this turns out to be a stupid question. Below is a section of the requirement rules for magazine ads and I was confused by one thing in particular:
Density of Tone. In black-and-white ads, a tone density greater than 85% may fill in on press. For 4-color, the sum of percentage tone values should not exceed 300%, with no more than one color printing solid. Two colors should not exceed 170% with one color solid or both colors screened.
If I understand this correctly, does this mean the highest any two color values can be is 170% or does it mean that after one solid color, the next two can't exceed 170%? The problem I've run into is how to use the color red (c:17 m:100 y:100 k:0). Any suggestions that can help me get this done?
Thank you so much for your time.
