wow, this is insanity! i never thought i'd be able to get such a generous response from so many different artists. it's very validating to know that i'm doing something right. thank you all for your kind words. i'll try to post more work soon.
jrr,
hey chief, let's talk why not? yo punk, thanks to you, evil dan and tyboogie for motivating me to upgrade my lurker status. im doing this for all the unrepresented asian brothers and sisters especially ti hua chang. he should get a cushy nbc anchor man's chair instead of being the travelling chinaman field reporter. ah sol...
a_,
thanks for checking out my post. the buildings were fun to draw, i was trying out a different approach at the time so it was nice to experiment. growing up in the urban jungle makes for great reference of ol' school tenement buildings. my landlord told me that the place i'm at dates back to the early 1900's. dig that!
el linxo,
who doesn't remember waking up early on those saturday mornings sitting in front of the tube for another dose of cartoon bliss? that stuff was always the best and is a constant source of inspiration even today. of course it helps to not have a life and just camp out next to the television. long live chuck jones cartoons!
Wizard of KOZ,
heheh, gingerly always real ginger. the punk guy getting arrested is something i worked on recently. i wanted to do something minimal and graphic, and at the same time suggest a narrative. hopefully it makes for a much more interesting image instead of just a study in technique.
Coma,
and then the witchdoctor, he told me what to do, he said that ooh eeh ooh ahah, ting tang wallawallabingbang. thank you for looking at my post. :chug:
StephenC,
flavalicious without the unecessary calories. thats a good steady diet of nothing.
el coro,
wow, thanks for posting on my thread! your artwork is wonderful and so personally expressive. i hope that one day i can develop the ambition and ability which you so naturally communicate in you art. i read your comments on jon fosters thread about self doubt and feeling lost as an artist sometimes. it must be something universal that we all experience from time to time. but seeing all the great work on forums like these and hearing other artists voice their concerns is always a great motivator to keep on drawing. thank you again.
BlkCelebration,
what's that quote from norman rockwell, something about," when a painting is going badly put a dog somewhere in the composition, if it still looks bad put a bandage on the dogs paw." that always makes me laugh. well in my book, if all else fails make it look energetic and stylish. at least it'll look pretty. btw, dm fan?
Bennihana,
hey benni, thanks for looking at my work. i will try to post more once webhost fixes some of the gaps in service. damn verizon, can't believe im paying for this...uhg...!
tyboogie,
tyler! whats's goin on bro? yeah i decided to come out from under my rock for a visit.
hey, our conversation last time about technique vs design really got me thinking. i never realized it before but i do tend to rely more on technique and style as a way to compensate for lack of design sometimes. i'll try to be more mindful of that now. thanx for checking up.
KayCustomz,
hot diggity dang...!
MonkEE,
we are ready to rock steady. someone on these boards has the quote," so much style but no substance, so much substance but no style" hopefully i won't fall victim to either extreme. always a delicate balance.
R_M,
glad to hear you like what i posted. when's your site going up?
Deth Jester,
great name! "Live each day like you will die tommorow, and dream like you will live forever..." whats that from? sounds familiar but i can't quite place it, brain fart...
davi,
hey thanks for your comments. you guys are doing great work on the daily sketch group. you deserve props for putting it together. big ups to you and everyone else involved with dsg. im practicing my speed painting so hopfully i can join you all soon. thanks for checking up on this thread too. evil-dan and me have been friends since high school. buy him enough beers and he'll show you some fancy two steppin' to the tune of tiny dancer.
Severith,
sup sev! i appreciate the welcome. there's so much great work on these boards. i've been lurking for well over a year before i was brave enough to post after some subtle motivation from friends:

[EDIT: davi]
Url fix.
mcotie,
howdy, environments are particularly challenging but these were fun to draw because it was a rather personal project. btw, love your website. fantastic concepts!
http://www.mcotie.com/ (http://)
Maximillion,
animation, wow, that sounds involved. i've done some animated gifs that go on for a bit in imageready but never a short. maybe in the future, it certainly isnt something i would rule out. thanks for the suggestion and comments, makes me want to draw!
ChadTHX1138,
hi Chad, danny and me are two separate people, though it is rumored that we were spawn from the same seed, if that's any indication. for anyone who hasn't witnessed danny/evil_dan's artwork, head on over here: http://st-hilaire.net/ (http://)
JohnM,
hey John, i remember brookyln dreams from a few years back. cool diverse looking cartoon approach. the mini paperback format made it even cooler to thumb through.
here's hoping were talking about the same thing:

theft is punishable by decapitation after chinese water torture. drip drip. i was in the process of building some of the characters in lightwave but i've held off on completing that project for the time being. H.A.D.D.
Evil_Dan,
Danny, eh, i talk to you everyday. what else is there left to say :chug:
theognis,
thanks buddy
wow, that took me an hour and a half to write up, it doesn't help that i still use the grade school hunt and peck approach while typing. like a dang igit on crack trying to write shakespeare with two fingers. phew, gotta go outside and get some air. thank you all once again for commenting on this thread. have a good one...!:)
edit, the hyper links i posted don't seem to be working. copying and pasting them seems to go well though. not sure what i did wrong, i'm still new to posting. damnitall

yo man, you're already there. your work shows great polish, and i know you will go far with it. this is a great community we have here, and i think artists generally go through the same things wrestling the creative process, and its nice to know you're not alone. i also think we are very lucky to live in times like these where communication between artists is conviently on a worldwide level. i know i've met a myriad of artists that i used to idolize(still do) on these forums, and its always refreshing to know that they are generally warm and friendly people who share a very similar lifestyle, and are equally happy to know you're livin' it as well. kudos to you, and i look forward to seeing your future posts.-c36

not bad, i like the matrix red head chick a lot.
you can definitely draw.
but you can do better.
you still need to loosen up. not that
the drawings are dead, but some of it seems overworked.
like the fat man. he looks happy but he doesn't feel happy.
how to make him feel happy. i have no idea.
but if you can do that, you'd be that much better.
the drawings of the buildings are pretty good.
i get a sense of the mood, the only thing that throws it off
is that the buildings look cute.
i don't get a sense of despair that i think you are trying to convey. i dunno, unless you're going for a childrens book thing.
the punk getting arrested:
it's a good drawing but the graphic appoarch doesn't work with the subject matter. it's too clean, it needs to be more messy. there's too much red. it might have worked better if just the blood was red. the punk seems indifferent to the whole situation and the cops don't intimadate him they don't blend into the background either. they just seem to be there.
it might work better if the cops presence was just shadows of them. that way, you get a sense of doom that will come to the punk.
i'm not knocking your drawing ability. what i would like to see
is some of these characters interacting (instead of these pinup poster pieces) so that the audience can get a sense of connection with the work and what you want to REALLY say.
i hope that my need for comments doesn't discourage you from posting more or make you think that i'm an asshole. you have a uniquie style that you should continue to develop, and i don't really know what i'm talking about.
