Just a run down...
The squid has beak-like hooks.
It EATS WHALES.
Muscles can rotate 360 degrees.

American marine biologist Kat Bolstad said the colossal squid was a more dangerous animal than the giant squid, the mythical monster of the deep that attacked Captain Nemo's Nautilus in Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea."

 I want one!

"We know so little about the marine environment in general. If animals like this are turning up, what's going to be at 3,000-meters (10,000-foot) depth. We don't know," O'Shea said.

Some of my favorite programming on TV are those deep underwater shows.. get to see some really, alien creatures. What is even freakier are some of the fossils they are pulling out from the oceans depth (well, maybe not freekier. Maybe those fossils still have descendants down there). Strange..

I remember watching one of those Discovery shows where some scientists were in a sub and they caught a glimpse of a giant squid and tried to chase it. They could only keep it in their lights for a matter of seconds, it moved so fast. But it was amazing to see even that short of a show.

Cool article, I didn't even know that there was one colossal squid found... or captured.

davi: the moment i saw the story of that in the news i knew somewhere on this planet a person going by the nickname davi was freaking out because of that. :)

amazing indeed. squids rock the shit, alongside octopusses and slime-mushrooms (myxomycetes, beings consisting of one cell that may become as large as a human hand, transforming shape, behaving kind of intelligent, certainly living, unsure if animal or plant... ).

Hey, if you want to read a really good story about the deep I highly recommend this book:

Starfish (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0812575857/qid=1049572276/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/104-1013682-9011956?v=glance&s=books)

Pretty hardcore scifi.. but a good yarn.

Can't help but throw out good books when I am reminded of them. I think there is a sequal too, called Maelstrom.. have not read it yet myself.. but need to.
