First of all, i must bring up how great the graphics look, and that this is years in the future. The "Solid Eye" snake is wearing looks very promising...notice how the chicken walkers resemble the REX model M-Gears, my guess is that those are some of the models that were made by countries that bought the plans from Ocelot after the first game, but then again this is way in the future so it could also be that its "technologically legal" to make gov't mini-MGs...

Also im asuming that Snake still uses CQC, giving from the knife hes holding..and lastly yes thats Otacon in the last pic. You might notice that snakes looks alot older, and Otacon doesnt look old enough...that maybe because of him being a Boss clone...who knows...

This game looks like it's going to be amazing. Finally tie off the story to the Solid Snake . Otacon story... But knowing Konami it'll probably open up a world of questions for new characters.

I say Konami because (yes, he's said it before) Kojima said it'd be his last MGS game. So I th ink they'll still want to leave the franchise open for a new director.

FrostSathanas

konami as a company has no say over MGS, maybe before the 3rd...but not anymore

since Kojima started "Kojima Productions" he and his creative team are the ones who have the say...i never remember konami ever unveiling anything that has to do with the MGS franchise, the strust Hideo enough to let him do it

and also hes the one who gets to decide who the director of the series might/will be...just as he did with acid, he said it himself. he said its the younger generation of people that worked with him on MGS2/3, he let them start something of their own...but he said that nothing from the Acid storyline is canon...

@ FrostSathanas: Not agree with you concerning Otacon, he looks older: look carefully to his throat and the wrinkles near is eyes. Whatever, thank you for this nice screenshots, I'm very curious to see this game !

if you read carefully youll understand what i meant

i meant that Snakes relative aging does not look like its at the same ratio as Otacons...inferring that he ages faster then otacon...i in no way meant that otacon hasnt aged =]

uhhh I don't know about the rest of you, but I just saw the trailer and I am impressed to say the least. The immersion, the environment...the story telling should be great on this one. Otocon's inside that little walking camcorder? what a dork (but that little thing walking around seems pretty sweet!)

From a graphics standpoint saying "the textures are so real" , "the animation is so good!" ect are pretty boring advancements, however...the realism is starting to work out really well for 3D. Things are becoming more how they are. Dirt, Water, skin movements, muscles moving and flexing over the frame of the character. Did anyone look at snake's neck in the trailer close to the start? He swallows his breath and you can see the skin on his neck move in with the movement of his throat. o___O in a pretty fast and normal looking way. That was cool.

www.gametrailers.com on the front page right now.

Wow. Snake looks senile. Also I thought the mechs with the organic looking legs sucked.
And why is Otacon still young(or middle aged) while Snake is getting senior citizen coupons? Flash back maybe?

I_LOVE_ART
September 19th, 2005, 07:33 AM
I just thought of something, Ocelot appears in every MGS installment and apparantly he has a major contribution to the story. If Solid Snake is old in MGS4, Ocelot would be dead or on a wheel chair!

darkarts
September 19th, 2005, 09:54 AM
Snake, because he is a clone of Big Boss, has a natural defect that causes him to age faster. This becomes apparent when Liquid asks him "drowning in time?" when Ocelot steals RAY. This is also why Liquid wanted the remains of Big Boss, to possibly cure any diseases/imperfections his offspring could/would get. This explains why he ages a lot more than Otacon.

So you will be seeing Ocelot again. Or maybe Liqucelot. Whatever. Hey, there's Raiden!

By the way, snake looks old on stills, but he's still very much the badass snake in motion.

I actually liked the chicken leg Metal Gears, but I found the fact they made noise quite strange. I think it's interesting since it seems to come from RAYS screeches, but yeah, it's pretty weird.

darkzeal - stop hatin'

now about those legs if you havent read kojimas breakdown of the REAL-TIME demo of the trailer you should...the legs of those 'walkers' or 'genkkous' are infact organic, he [kojima] said that if snake were to shoot then they would bleed

i also agree that snake ages faster cuz of him being a clone and all, also i dont think its that far into the future...no one said anything about this but i still think that "x years after big shell" might stand for 10, he was in late 30s during mgs2

also this is all speculation, hardcore fans know that hideo likes to mess with ppls minds >:D

PS

its been stated by kojima himself that more of the game with be revealed at the NEXT years TGS, he didnt specify if it will be playable...so its at least another year +, away from now :\

Does anyone else feel totally let down by what the 360 has shown so far? I mean, everything I've seen for the PS3 looks lightyears past the 360. Whats the deal? Gears of War is the only thing that looks even remotely close. Anyway about Metal Gear. It looks amazing, as usual. Im sure it will be very awesome and have great graphics and new types of gameplay with amazing cut-scenes. And Im also sure it will have a plot that can't be followed and be full of ridiclous events and characters as usual. But it will make for a good game anyway.

FrostSathanas

well thats mostly because of the cell-chip processor, everyone already knows that ps3 is better the 360...just noone knows how bigs the gap

And Im also sure it will have a plot that can't be followed and be full of ridiclous events and characters as usual. .

neat how the soldiers were carrying slightly different weapons- some with stocks extended, others retracted, some were wearing their kneepads around their ankles, that kind of stuff.

the animation looks.. good, just like the other games, but still too key-framed and overly smooth. and looks motion captured. good, but not as good as an intuitive animator's work.

i still remember playing the original Metal Gear Solid... incredible game. incredible story. the characters are a little, uh... wonky, but if you think of it as being played by costumed actors and not as real characters it's a lot more enjoyable. a lot of political commentary by Kojima... especially heavy-handed in Sons of Liberty.

its alright...i got all the mg games, so whenever i need my fill...i have it

now about those soldiers, kojima said that every soldier will be different in someway, like one might have certain accessories others might not, liek for example i would stock up on ammo if i were going to war, so its my 'individual' choice, i liek that it varies like that

and regarding the animation, hideo said that yes he can do movie realistic characters but he wont, because he want to keep the whole 'mgs' feel, and in order to do that there are something that he must obstain from, i think thats great and i can respect that...

on the final note he also said that hes interested in pursuing the MG Online even more after subsistence comes out, imagine MGO on PS3...FUCK!!

Actually FrostSathanas the M stands for content not plot complexity. And the kind of stupidity I'm talking about are things like ol, lets see... take MSG2 for instance, Rev. Ocelot having Liquid Snakes arm or whatever that deal was, and it was taking over his mind, or vampires named Vamp, gritty realism like that. I call it goofy, doesn't mean I dislike the game, but I would have left some of that stuff out.

K-17

Vamp isn't for "vampire". It's 'cause he's bissexual.

Dude, seriously, you might want to calm down a little there. In hindsight, the story makes perfect sense - IN HINDSIGHT. Many people had 'wtf' moments when they first played MGS2, me included. I'm sorry to say that if you're going to tell some people to stop hating, you might want to come of as a less of a fanboy as well.

Scube, have you played MGSIII? Kojima sort of explained the relation between the ghost arm and all there. Though I agree with you. I still crack up when anybody brings up "I live on, through this arm!!" when we discuss games. :)

About the Xbox360 - I was dissapointed by the Gears of War too. I've got this nagging feeling it will be this launch game everyone is going to buy but it's not actually that good. I don't want it to be - Epic's probably one of my favourite developers - but I was pretty excited for the Xbox360... but now I'll think I'll stay with this generation.

Bi is the term used, but i think it might have meant "hermaphrodite" more than anything.

Shortly after your encounter with vamp, call snake. He'll talk about each member of dead cell and eventually reach vamp.

SPOILER(kinda)
Apparently, vamp was the lover of scott dolph, the marine commader who died in the tanker incident - and fortune's father. The relationship between Vamp and Fortune, apparently comes from there, bizzare as it may be.

Where was that? I don't remember anything that might have pertained to that. Unless you're talking about the Sorrow.

Im actually playing through MGS3 now Darkarts, having fun with it. Staying hidden is much more challenging in this one so far and the storys been pretty good. I've only cringed once or twice due to some of the goofy dialog, thats pretty good considering how much there is. If nothing else Kojima knows how to direct. The presentation gets better with each game.

I share your concerns about Gears of War. I've seen some of the in-game videos. Looks like they have all the cool graphics and stuff, but seemed to be missing the same wow factor I have when looking at some of the Ps3 titles. The sad thing is, its the coolest thing I've seen for the 360 so far.

Does anyone else think that gears of war seems a little...jumpy? Also, it seemed like there was nothing else exceptional about the game other than the graphics. Its kinda like doom 3. It had great graphics, but the gameplay was boring and repetitive. The only real xbox 360 game I would look forward to is perfect dark. Some of those gameplay videos looked promising. Other than that, I'd go with a ps3. The thing is, is that the cell chip on the ps3 has a lot of hidden potential (or "holes") that can be uncovered by designers. I was thinking that the potential for this was huge. In the long run, I'd go with ps3. Metal Gear looks awesome, now lets get some footage of gran turismo 5. Imagine the leap on that baby! If it has the same effect as going from ps1 to ps2, I'd be amazed. So far they only have some footage, but based on ps2 engine. Well, enough blabbering. Payce. :yayca:

Now you see, this is a little point that was bothering me. Gears of War has good graphics, (yes, merely good now) but the world does not seem realistic at all - to me. I see some cool effects, some people walking, running and shooting - but then the first thing the video shows me is the main character pushing a car as though it was a block puzzle from Zelda OoT. This is kinda related to MGS because I still hold up MGSII as one of the graphically greatest games - it's not the graphics per say, but the things you can do. Shoot a bottle, a pan, a melon, whatever - everything feels and looks right, just as the physics in Half-Life 2 look right. When I see someone pushing a car down the slope with no further interaction than a few sparks, and a sub-par flame effect, I begin to doubt.

Honestly, that was nitpicking on one point, but I feel it needs to be said. Inconsistency can ruin immersion, and that ruins the gameworld.

i dont think every game has to have propper physics, there are some games that just dont need that. I agree that if one tries to make a game 'realistic' then it has to follow through, but some games are meant to be inconsistant, imo.

the day when snake dies, the metar gear series ends...one cannot be without the other

Exactly.

It's like having The Doors without Jim Morrison... or Queen without Freddie Mercury...

oh wait...

I think that's how Kojima wants it. I've heard that Raiden will become the new main character of the series as MGS3 goes on.

It makes sense if this is Kojima's last game. Since he's passing on the series to a younger generation, Snake will pass the torch to Raiden. That seems like a really great way to end/begin the series.

and let MGS end if that's what Kojima wants. Maybe it's a more... Asian thing to end things, and more American to keep them running...
Like, if I were to say...
in comics, compare Superman to say... Astro Boy.
Superman comics still continue, the name is passed from artist to artist.
Astroy Boy is Osamu Tezuka's, and noone but Tezuka does Astroboy (though a while ago they did make a cartoon...)

well shit, if the American comics industry followed the Japanese comics industry (ONLY in the respect of creator-owned title opportunities) it would probably be in better shape.

Regarding the game's future...Although I was one of the few that liked Raiden, I don't think it should be passed down that way. Although what I'm GUESSING is that in the time that's gone by, Raiden isn't a whiny bitch anymore and he's become a man. In fact I suspect he's going to be a lot like the younger Snake. I'm very very curious to see how this all turns out.

if Liquid snake counts as 'living', it still leaves alot of room for what 'not dying' means!
