[ Just to clarify... ]
[ By "(wo)man", i mean woman or man. ]
[ I've never seen it done this way, but it's logical to my mind. ]
[ Not much of a blurb really. ]
[ Sorry so late. ]
[ ... again.]

I think it did. Looks very good, Halfmonk. I almost strung this one up by the neck too but chickened out :)

Floating around for several hours to the horror of many and strange fascination to others, it is unknown whether the balloon lady had a work accident or took her own life.
painter, an hour or so, not happy with it today

everything is so grusome today haha i love it.
my concept is for a story book or possible cartoon featuring a fairy princess who goes on various adventures throughout her world. One of these adventures involves her climbing into a heart shaped balloon ride when it accidently takes off.

Ugh, It's been a while (BUT I HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE).
Quick doodle in OpenCanvas -- Couldn't resist. Largely inspired by AquaSixio's Ophelia character.
Halfmonk :: Fantastic, reminds me of Tim Burtin. Morbid, I like.
Sunny :: Your balloon actually LOOKS like a balloon. Good job.
Jabberwooky :: I like the b/w -- I also like the way the figure is seated on the balloon.
Ethelbert :: HURT. Love the clean lines, nice idea, too.

Ethelbert-That is by far the coolest take on the concept. I really like your clean lines and subdule shading. The only thing I don't like is that he looks like he has kankels (ya know big ass knee ankels).
Hamsta-I think it turned out pretty nice. I like the way you got the texture in the background going. Seems like the the girls angle is a bit off. It seems like it should follow the angle to the string.
machzero-that's cool how you incorportated the heart shape by useing the shadow.
Halfmonk-I like what you came up with there. I have to agree with asbestoshazard that it has a hard core Burton feel to it like you just got done watching the Nightmare before christmas or something. Seems like you have the subject a bit too centered in the composition. You might be able to crop it and get something with a bit more impact. The textures are great.

Fal$eProfit Yeah, I think you have a point there, I thought it would be easier to find ref for hanging people, alas, such was not the case.
You choose a good perspective, showing both the balloon and the girl, she's a little too yellow but I like the fact that she has more than one skin color.
Light source is a bit confusing, looks like it's somewhere between her and the balloon. Trees look like one solid flat mass, with random colors.
Heh, her face reminds me of the Gorrilaz style.
jabberwookie Despite being a centric composition, there is something interesting about it, maybe it's your division into 1/3 - 2/3.
It dosen't look much like a balloon, being that flat, and I'd like to see some reflected light on the buttom. Not sure we should see a shadow on the ground according to the lighting you establised and the ground perspective.
You have perspective problems in the farm divisions, and in the balloon (the half heart away from our view should be smaller)
The guy's pose works alright, and I like the cloud on the left.
