I used one of the speedpainting I liked (which is rare) as a base for an illustration. So I spent some time adding details but I didn't want to loose the feeling of spontaneity from the original one, C&C welcome!

Very, VERY nice. I love the shapes. Everything has such nice flow and it is so well composed. No crits at all. I would hang that on my wall....

Very nice job! I'm loving the water especially. You've got a great eye for color and texture. The composition is interesting, too. A lot of depth and activity, but it doesn't look too busy. Keep up the awesome work, man!

Painter, right? I recognize some of the brush strokes.

Wow, love especially how you handled the rocks and beach area. The ships look cool but aren't doing that much for me, anyway, no real crits, I love seeing your work.

Very nice, rich colors and beautiful atmosphereic perspective. A crit that comes from someone with a 10th of your painting skill.. :dur: ....Honestly I feel like the ship stands out more than the rail that it's attached to. At first glance it seemed to be infront of and sailing by the dock...Perhaps if there were a slightly brighter highlight on the rail of something it would bring it forward enough. Just a thought, otherwise this piece made my day :teeth:

Reminds me of Scott Robertson; lush and rich; I envy your ability to build an image quickly and retain its spontaneity; my drawings always take yonks!

That is terrific! I especially love the texturing on the rocks... very convincing, looks like you could reach into the monitor and touch 'em.

thanks y'all, it was a fresh attempt to work towards a more colourful, rich and bright Sci-fi setting, I am getting tired of dark, post-ap images all over internet (including mine).
Oblio: I don't think I'll have some time for Prague unfortunately, it'd be nice though.
for the brushwork, I will soon put a tutorial page on my site with a downloadable set of brushes.

Wow, what a beautiful piece. The rocks and the breaking water are perfectly and delicately handled. Plus, I love the cast shadows onto the two rocks. Thanks for sharing. I'd love to see the original speedpainting if you don't mind showing it.

thanks again everyone, Oblio please use it :)
here is the original speedpainting (1h) made with the Ubi team, subject: Metallic structure on the beach. As you can see, everything was already there, just added details and focused on the water rendering.

That is fantastic! I check out your site everyday I love your style. I was wondering since this is a speedpainting how big do your files end up? do you work at 72dpi and then when working on the finished version change it to 300dpi? I don't see how people say they work at 72dpi and then they have the images printed in book and they still look clear.

I try to work on High res even for a speedpainting, I used to paint with small resolution 2 years ago but as soon as you want it to be printed the quality sucks. I work with 2 formats only in 300 DPI, a vertical (1800X1500) and an horizontal one (2409X1600) to keep a certain homogeneity.
now that power isn't a problem anymore you should work in high res.

jeez - it's nice!
Great idea - I really love the subject matter. I'd love to be on that beach.
I think I prefer your speedy, in terms of the rendering. The final seems a bit overworked. The other thing that isn't working for me is the lighting. It's such a beautiful beach scene, I'm aching for some bright, tropical sun. The lighting in the pic seems a bit soft and flat. I did a quick overpaint, and I'll post it if you'd like.

thanks Barontieri, Do you work the same in painter..at 300dpi? when I make big brushes in Painter it slows to a crawl but with like the pens brushes it works fast. Maybe my computer is just too slow :[

YVerloc you could PM me your paintover if you want, I'd like to see the bright addition, as I tried not to saturate mine to give a more realistic feeling, I usually use too bright colors.
Madman, I don't remember, haven't used Painter in a while but I still keep high res formats anyway.
