The form is strong in this one, methinks. Looks like had more time to spend on it, delicious result!

Wikkid. I like how the reds don't really soak into vision until you look at it for a few seconds, then you can "see" all this detail in the shadows. Awesome.

im suprised you guys are responding to this one. yeterday was actually very stressfull and demanding. these portraits are my meditation. they help put everything in perspective.
I tried to take a very acedemic approach on this one. paying closer attention to edges and form. captured some new paper textures for the chalk tool and experimented with those too.

I'm looking at this one again.
I believe this is one of my favorites, quite possibly one of your strongest. I really get pulled into those deep reds. It's almost like two different paintings( the blues and the reds) but the same. It gives me the feeling that your wearing a mask and this "other" person is peering out from within the shadows; almost from a different angle even. But it is still very unified. I don't know how to explain it. Very powerful.

Part of becoming a better artist is that your work improves whether you're thinking that way or not. You construction improves with practise, despite your focus. Values are nice, I dunno about the consistently fuzzy edge on the shadowed side of the chin. The ear's a scribble. Nicely done though!

wow!
those reds are absolutely great!
firt glance, you look absolutely cold, harsh light that makes every edge in your face stand out. also, no eyes shown...
then, as mitch noticed, the reds come in, begin to define it from the other side, one sees eyes from one moment to the other and it's beginning to life.
strange is that mitch finds the red part the mask while i think the blue one looks "maskier". the red parts look more living imho.
anyway, i like it.

just caught this going out the door.
the reason i like this one better than your others is because of the colors/values. at night i'm often studying them for a long time, trying to come up with the right colors to use to get the night feel. you did a swell job on these. and like the others said, i think the red adds a lot to this one
