I like how parts of it sell up close (hence the CU below), but from a distance it doesn't sell as well. My primary issue is that I pushed to completion too quickly, and that's led to a lot of issues cropping up....

Anyway, here it is. The primary exercise was to respond to feedback on another piece, suggesting I get more painterly and use less heavy line work. I was in the midst of pulling back a great deal of line work when I just said, "feh." :-)

Thoughts on how to improve this piece are greatly appreciated...

I really like it.

I think the line work is definetly contrasting with the brush strokes, especially in the hair. Her expression is perfect.

Maybe put a shimmer on the knife so that it is a little more eyecatching.

Stupid enter button, posting before I'm done writing!

Sorry, as I was saying...I am in the midst of removing all the heavy line work, for sure. That's the main purpose of this experiment, to get away from my comic style that I do so often. Bruticus and Theognis (and Keyth, for the original suggestion), thanks for the encouragement, that tells me SOMETHING is going right...

More specifically, it's the proportions and volume that are bugging me, and I was wondering A) if other folks might help me pin down what's up with the proportions and b) how I might improve the shading.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks again,
