Hi Folks,
This is my:
FIRST entry,
FIRST wacom art (like the 4th hour im using this thingy)

And its not even curvy :/

It would really benefit my work if you gave it a few sentences.
Maybe even some tips for brushes, color picking
My Workflow is quite slow at that point :)

Anyways, there goes nothing:

I'm new here, but already I can tell, the new ideas people come up with have sucked. :nohope:
Seriosly though, the previous ideas were good, but that person obviously stopped posting.

-i'm not exactly sure what you're referring to, but it seems like a kind of dick thing to say.
the dsg topics are ment to be a challenge, so the more esoteric or unlikely the better (as far as i'm conserned)

Fal$eProfit ha! Great idea! Nicely done too.

trooph Welcome to the DSG :) Nice first outing. It reminds me of a Boabab tree I think.

Goran Nice as always. I especially like the dark atmosphere.

MetroidMan Topic love is pretty subjective. Personally, I loved today's theme which is mainly why I participated. I tend to seriously dislike the mecha robots and sci-fi stuff. But regardless of personal topic likes and dislikes, I try to participate when I can because the strange topics force me to draw out of my comfort zone and that helps to improve skills.

Here's mine..

Carefully nurtured over a few decades as a publicity stunt by Benny's world famous pretzels, this tree first attracted alot of attention, but the novelty has worn out, and Benny's has gone out of buisness as well.

"i'm not exactly sure what you're referring to, but it seems like a kind of dick thing to say"

indeed.

falseprofit hehe nice idea, i'm tempted to rip it off, but i guess ill have to think of something else.

trooph not at all bad for a first try with a wacom. you may want to draw a quick sketch first, scan it, and colour over the top (if you havnt already). i still struggle trying to paint directly into painter. the horizon line might be a little high in this one, making it seem like you are looking 'down' on the tree. and it also helps increase the sense of depth if you use a gradient for the sky, like hamsta has.
other than that just play around with the brushes/blenders, everyone uses different ones depending on theyre style. and its exciting when you find a new one that you love :teeth:

goran i envy your style. good to see you back in the DSG.

Amerasu i really like the range of textures you've used. it may look a little more natural with more leaves on our side, but i guess that would mean sacrificing some of those delightfully curvy branches.

Hamsta great little backstory as always :P keep it up.

karma police-Hey man thanks for the props. Feel free to use my idea if you want. It would be cool to see your spin on it.
troyboy - I saw your web page those sculptures you do rock man.
Hamsta - Cool idea. Seems like the shadows on your tree should be as dark as the shadow on the roof.
Amerasu-Your smooth style is awesome. It seems like it would take forever to pull off. I like the way that you did the leaves alot and your use of color to give them depth.
goran-Your a visual master man. Everytime I look at you work I'm remided of the importance of good composition and putting the viewer in the scean and not just looking at it.
trooph-Good to see a new poster on the thread. Seems like you could spend some time just quickly setting up a good composition and then paint over that rough outline. Obviously your still just trying to work out the whole basics of useing a tablet. You might want to check out this link

It tells about brush settings and one technique for killer results.

edit: this is my first DSG post EVER OMGOGMGOGMG

in order to escape the heat of two suns, the tree curls under the "cap" of the hoodoo it is on, shading its its leaves from one of the suns.

the blurriness of the airbursh makes it look like crap... especially the trunk. oh well.

This image is in no way endorsing cruelty to animals, but since plants can't use their freedom of speech, i figure they should at least be allowed to kill kittens...

Goran - Your stuff is ridiculous as usual man (as in "ridculously talented" of course). Look forward to every post you put up.

Eh... man these things took me quite sometime to do... mad props to you guys who actually make things look like bark and leaves. I don't know about you guys, but working from life is so much less mentally stressful. I guess that's because you have the answer in front of you, it's just up to you to copy it down.

Amerasu = I like your tree texture, feels nice.
goran = I dig the composition and the lights vs. darks. Good stuff as usual.
Ethelbert = If only that were my cat =]

EDIT: I made the images smaller because I posted a larger more worked one at the bottom.

goran- i like yours alot. when i look at it, i imagine that the tree was caught in mid-hop while looking for a mate.

falseprofit- it looks like your's is also feelin a little randy!!

amerasu- nice effort! maybe a shadow in the grass?

ethelbert- perhaps a plant hybrid of catnip & venus flytrap?

books- like your concept sketch, just need to work on color technique. if this helps, flamingpear.com has a freebie bundle of filters for photoshop. one of the filters is called "ghost". when applied to a scanned pencil layer (seperate from the background), it renders all white areas as transparent. so if you were then to create another layer below the ghosted sketch layer, you'd then be able to color under your pencils without covering em up! (i use this all the time) there's a method of doing this in photoshop normaly, but why bother?

winwinja- sweet pic! (looks like a storyboard frame)

Decided I'd 'noodle' one of the sketches in Photoshop instead of Painter for an evening. The brushes sure aren't as fancy, but they work well enough.
http://www.3dninja.com/images/conceptart/curvy_trash_4_small.jpg
My colors aren't that great, but Moebius (sp?) did some crazy desert scenes with some surreal color choices. Guess that gave me enough confidence to work at it some more.

Hi,

I´d like to thank:

Amerasu
karma police
Fal$eProfit

for C&C

I´ve been viewing this forum for quite some time, and i have to say when it comes to community this board is the sh*t :).
Really appreciate the helpfullness and inspiration people give away for free:)
As soon as i get my own pad (Hopfully a Graphir3 Studio, the A4 format) i will post much more. (The one i used for the tree was a a5 G2)

I like the devil - but i miss a little more depth around him when it comes to ligthing of the tree
@
xgabo
Nice contrast between this moody ligthing of the scene and the hangman - is it "r" or "j" who hangs there?

Fal$eProfit - I knew someone would do this ;)
trooph - Practice, practice, practice.
goran - Not so curvy, maybe, but nice pic.
MetroidMan - Hm. If you actually decide to participate, and find that the topic of the day does not inspire you, I would recommend you dig deep and find something interesting in your interpretation of the topic to tide you over. Oh, and welcome.
Amerasu - Nice! Very curvy, very pretty tree! Love the grass as well. A fine solution to the topic.
Ethelbert - More of a vine than a tree, but I like the interaction with the animal.
Books - So tiny! I especially like the initial sketch.
atomicsushi - Sufficiently distinct from Burton. ;)
winwinja - A bit difficult to figure out where the curvy tree is... There are some contour lines that run parallel to a shaft of light and gives the look of a trench... is that actually tree trunk? Otherwise, nice sketch!
Books, again - Looks good!
xgabo - Beauty! Lovely flow, nice texture, and effective handling of light/colour.

I'm not overjoyed with mine, but it communicates what I was shootin' fer.

William b. Hand - I really like how light falls on your piece. The way the farther branches are silhouetted is very effective too.
sketchling - I feel like I'm looking at a quick sketch from art of Tarzan or something. It has a very inviting feel, nice work.

Fal$eProfit It's supposed to be a billboard, but I agree on the shadows needing to be darker.
Haha, unlike Bill, I wasn't expecting that, and you've done a good job with it, looks like an African carving, which is quite fitting.
The leaf brush is distracting, and detracting from the figure.
I'd like to see some ground shadow.
Pose might need some reconsideration, might be a bit too wild, then again, it's not that bad, looking like some ritualistic dance and fitting the African theme.

karma police I welcome your asspat :moon: :P
