Hey everyone. A few people here know me, I am good friends and flatmates with Daniel (Phuzion), most don't; but I have been a member here for awhile. Anyways life caught up with me, well Art Center for the most part, and I wasn't left with much time to post, but always lurked, but now I've decided to actually contribute something to this forum.

Anyways, I posted this in the Photography forum, but since that forum gets minimal traffic I decided the post might be better suited here, if a moderator wants to zap my other post please go ahead.

Here are some previews so you can get an idea of what it is about:

I think the first one could get cropped quite a bit on the bottom. It would both help the composition, and tie conceptually into the "CINERAMA" sign, since that was an extreme widescreen format.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you Elwell :P
I know what you're saying about the cinerama deal, but that sort of makes it a little too obvious for my tastes... and well, as artists/storytellers, obvious is not the best route imo. Also, I like all the dark space at the bottom, but I'm a huge fan of still moments in compositions.

And for the others, well I love them both. I especially like the old woman. She looks like she should be some burnt out movie star. Like Vivian Leigh or someone. Awesome stuff. But you already know that! Keep rockin' it.

Peace,
-Daniel

The first picture is not one i would flash a look at and love immediately, it is however one, that after looking at for a bit I like very much.

When I first glanced at it, I saw black and some bright sign, nothing spectacular.

As I looked at it more, things started popping out at me... the old movie poster, more signs, texture of the bricks and those little lines near the bottom... and do I see ghosts of people? The contrast of the lights of the sign to the dark is a little much for me to hang on my wall, but I still like it :)

The last two...

#2 Decay, character, and beauty

#3 Decay, character, and... wrinkles :P (I agree about the old burnt out movie star feel, she has to have a raspy voice)

take care

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Marie- I like an image that breathes a little bit. Something with empty space that isn't so 'shotgun' effect. Sometimes a shotgun is important and good, but this place felt so nostalgic, like something forgotten, so I decided to overexpose it to loose the shadow detail and bring the shutter speed way down so that I would get some 'camera-shake' giving it a classic feel. I am glad you warmed up to it and liked the others.

Elwell- Thanks for the comment and critique, I can see were you are coming from. I do tend to like more negative space in my compositions, still places where the eye can rest, and I am also try to compose 'in-camera' vs in photoshop, I think about it as if you were shooting a film and you have a set format.

Nice pictures man, what camera are you using? Love the contrast in your photographs, brings out the depth of field. I like the photo of the woman on the bench, the grain gives it a really gritty feel. Keep it up

Thanks for the comments;

Bill- Thanks man. I took that one in rome, when the pope died at his funneral. It was a crazy event, tons of people everywhere.

Sam- I use a Nikon Fm2n or a Konica III rangefinder. I push most of my film, I like the contrasty look. The grit on some of them is the function of using different chemicals in the development process.
