Who are some contemporary painters who paint traditional subject matter? My knowledge of artist from any time is minimal, so this might be a...um...[insert adjective on the tip of my tongue] question.

That's quite a question. Here's a list just off the top of my head.
Richard Schmid, John Asaro, David Leffel, Daniel Greene, Burton Silverman, Odd Nerdrum, Dan Gerharz, Scott Burdick, Morgan Weistling, Laura Robb, Carolyn Anderson, Jeremy Lipking, Ryan Wurmser, Dan Thompson, Tony Ryder, Ted Seth-Jacobs, Mian Situ, Susan Lyon, Clyde Aspevig, Steven Assael, Rosie Frantzen, Nancy Guzik, Jove Wang, Dan McCaw, sherrie McGraw, Milt Kobayashi, Malcolm Liepke, the list could go on and on. That's a good start though.

there's a guy named nicolas uribe benninghoff that will be the man in afew years, he just needs to age alittle but his work is better than most of the people on your list. he and i were both students of steve assael. if you can find any work from him online, you should definitly check him out. i think dice went to school with him too, evil dan and yipper did.
