I first started photogrphy this summer when i picked up a film camera that had been long passed on in my family and tried my luck at my high school photography competion. Unfortuantley i failed horribly and lost to a girl with a disposable underwater camera. But ever since that day i have had a growing passion for photography.

I took it up seriously this summer when i got the rebel xt for my fifteenth birthday. I have since picked up a few books that taught me about the technical aspect of photography such as the workings of the camera and the basic elements of the art such as compostion.

Surprisingly a majority of what i have learned has come from this forum. I have learned and read many of the comments and advice bits that have been give out by the seasoned photographers here. But there is no guide on how to shoot good pictures alot of it comes from inspiration, being able to determine what to shoot and whtat not to.

But here are a few tips i have remebered over the months:

1) Composition is crucial

2) Color is crucial even in black and white and dazzling color scheme makes the picture worth while

3) Shoot tons of photos of the same thing from every compostion you like. The more photos the better of a chance u have to suceede.

Beautiful. I apreciate your angles and perspective choices. DOP is also great, you've definetely pulled the eye the right way. Lastly, you Lieca lens is producing some great colors in the first flower shots. Excelent, I hope to see more photos soon.

Hey.. do u have any internet references that wont cost me 20 bucks? Here in Egypt it's hard enough to find a photographer!! I dont know anyone who takes photos as i do here, so these forums are my only source of learning, no books, nothing at all about the subject.

I love the "turn to clear vision" one.

The background is all blurry and it just makes you relax and think.

good work.

Wow, those are some amazing shots. Truly inspirational, I just started photography recently too and seeing what you've done is really inspirational. Great composition and the colors are amazing. How much post production do you do and with what program? I would love to get a rebel xt:P I got myself a Canon S2 IS, it's a start eh:P keep posting man!

Thanks that really means alot to me!

In post I edit with Adobe CS2 I mostly only work with curves which increases hue saturation contrast and a bunch of other stuff at the same time. For my Black and whites i use only the chanel mixer layer set to monochrome. Other than that nothing more, thanks again.

It just goes to show that you don't have to be a professional with years of experience to take a good photo.

It is just a desire to understand what makes you feel the way you do about the things you see! And a yearning to make good artwork.

Great use of depth of field, this is the defining moment of your development i feel from seeing these images. You feel really strongly about what it is you are doing...and more importantly you have enjoyed it.

Almost Zen?

However one crit is the pic of the girl and the child with toast, it lacks the conviction of your other pics...too flat, awkward composition and you should take it out of the sequence!

Oh, and it makes no difference what kind of camera you have aslong as it has a manual function and perhaps be able to change the lens!

As for taking lots of pics...nothing to do with digital, in actual fact it is probably more essential you don't over do it with digital as it is so easy to just snap pics and see the results! When I was at college I used a Nikon F3 and used to take rolls and rolls of film...I used to have 10 - 50 contact sheets to look at for my assignments! And now as a professional even with digital i could take 100 pics just for 1 single image, more if it's an essay.

I great learning tool for you all is to 'never' use the screen on your digital cameras! Treat it as a film camera. You will improve faster and have a stronger understanding wihtout it; As photography is about learning the techniques to taking great art...and not just hitting and changing things until you get it right without actually knowing what you have done...or why! As is so easy with digital. You should have confidence in what you have taken without second guesses from the camera screen! I only ever use the screen on my D1 to see that a pic was taken, and to check my white balance!
