Timpas paintings Ud 28 Nov

So, first post, just to get my ass in gear. These were done at the end of a foundation year in at LESAG in Paris, before this Id never picked up a pencil with the intent of drawing something, so I guess I learnt something over there. Not counting my first broken heart of course...

But I digress, these are all 1:1 gouache still lifes, on 400g vinci board, except the leather glove, thats a pencil.

You know I just posted on your sketch book and now looking at your gouache didn't realize that it's the same artist. Not exactly unrecognizable but very different from your city sketches. But I love it again. I love festive colors, and
how you draw texture.

Me again. May I ask how long it took for you to paint this lovely strawberry tartlet, for example? Was it still edible when you've finished? Gosh, I'm hungry :upset:

Haha, it took me about 10 hrs all in all. I noticed you got a shoe fetish, I got one I did in analytical aswell, Ill scan and post it tonight, Nothing special, but maybe youll get a "kick" out of it, hehe...

Yea from life, basically lay out whater infront of me, make sure I have a reliable lightsource, (very important!) then doing contours in pencil, lightly, then colour, trying to get shadings as close as possible. I really enjoyed them, love sitting for hours like that, learning. Ill scan some more.

How did you do the plastic container on N4? With what? The reflection is made shockingly realistic. You didn't ask me but I just have a little request. Try not to overdo it, don't do it a photographic quality. Stop when it still have charm of a drawing or a painting. Some roughness, not a polished effect. In this case you didn't overdo, in my opinion, but you are close.
Yes, some old dirty shoes would be nice after a french pastry.

Thanks, well basically drew the strawberries full figure, as if there was no container, then sprayed with a celluosa fixative, and lightly went over with a very diluted grey mix.

As for the "photorealism" I dont think Im there quite yet, hehe, but they were done for Analytical Drawing class, so the more close it looked to reality, the higher marks we got.

I cant seem to get the other pics to remain the right size, theyre to big, even thought theyre all around 800x600, 50k. Put they are photos, ill try again tonight!

So I got them to work! yipiee! Apparently i didnt log out of photobucket inbetween resizing my images to 800x600. Live and learn.
Anyway here are 4 Pastels, 50x33 cm, done while being hung over, well actually still pretty pissed, but it was fun anyway!

Hey, Tim! I'm very fond of your shoe and brunches. The shoe is new, never been worn. For not a shy person to wear it. I have a lot of associations with these branches: I've seen branches like that under my feet in very early cold spring when I was walking in city's park. Dead branches from last year growth.
I like the figure drawings (can add they looked stylized). Colored ones are a little scary. What did you do with their eyes? :?:

Hey, Sve, thansk for posting! yea, the eyes, I blame my alcohol content for that, cant even remember why or when, but they where returned to my by the instructors with notes saying "dont do that again, you fuXXk them up" and they were right!

Ok, so here is a WIP, the objective being that because Im so "linescared", and keep doing multiple passes whever I have a pencil in my hand, to do the whole thing with ONE line in ink. If i fucced up, Id have to take it from there, but as I said, the goal and challenge was that I only hade a "one line chance"

So there where no prerendered lines in pencil to follow, just a blank page and my Microns.
Its pretty big, A2, also part of the challenge.

Hello, timpaatkins.
You keep surprising me with your new sides.
I like this drawing, because this is one of my favorite technique ( I like detailed sketches made with black pen) and because of a intriguing and strange story behind this piece. Lines are very nice too , maybe a little restrained, but nice. I've got this strange sensation looking at the wavy door and column. I don't know if you wanted this effect or not but I like it. It adds to uneasy feeling about this drawing. It's a good thing.
I'm trying to understand how his cloth made? Collar is very strange indeed. Is it his hairy chest or a fabric's texture? He got open hairy chest and a top hat on? That's some very strange dude.

Thanks Sveta, I try and challenge myself, of course the results are not always good.. but im quite pleased with this one!

Regarding the shirt it is collarless, and that is indeed his chesthair. As I stated, the line was the master, and wherever he went, so did I, so some of the characters turned in to abstractions. Probably why it looks a bit strange...

That's lovely still life. Got everything I need. Contrast, glass texture, shapes, homey mood, soft lighting. May take it? It's beautiful.

you're fleshing them out too much! :) DON'T indicate forms with harsh lines. They look like they have scars. Use the shadows as your guide! ALways pay attention to the light. I would like to see shading next time.

Ok, found some old gouaches I thougth Id present, one is Place St. Michel done in Roy Lichtenstein style (Please disregard horrendus typography. And anything else for that matter). And please forgive glare in blacks. On my painting.

Other one is a play on french word for iron, which can be translated like this, if your crap at french, or have an overactive imagination.
The watercolor still life is recent, 2nd attempt. Unfortunatley I used it as gouache, and didnt take advantage of the techniques specific for waters. Oh well, the next one maybe!
