Hi! This is my first attempt at a self portrait in Painter. The proportions are a little off, and i'm not completely happy with the skin tones... but the hair really sucks (not only that it's too long :) ) i can't paint hair. Drives me crazy even though i did the tutorial...

When i look in the mirror i see all kinds op shades of brownish, reddish beige and even a bit of green in there but if i paint that it simply doesnt work...

How can i get the hair in the same style as the rest and in the right color?

Eric, looks quite good to me, especially the hatched skin texture.
I think the main problem is that there is a break between the hair and the forehead, caused mainly by the dark color separating them. The hair also seems a bit blurred.
What I would advise you to do, is to try and transpose the skin-hatch to the hair, that is, shorter hard-edged strokes. Another tip to make the actual head and the hair more cohesive, would be to have some hairs "invading" the forehead; loosen up some of those hair strokes, they look to rigid.
Congrats...
