View Full Version : Drawers needed

hi I'm new to CA and i came here with a project on my mind.
I was looking to create an online comic-book but i need people who can draw.
If anyone is interested just e-mail ok?

thanks

----------

The Project: I would write the episodes (texts or whatever) and someone would draw it.
I would have to create the webpage, and maybe buy my own domain for the project.
If the artist had time enough for it, then an E-comic would be created, if not then it would be only some illustrations of the important parts of the story.
Something like 1 page of text, 1 illustrated page.

The artist would of course be credited for all his/her work

---------

MOD's please move this to wherever is its place

Hey Rudy, I was wondering if you are good at doing anything, and if so, could you do it for me? Whatever it is, I'd need a whole lot of it, and I can't pay you, but I'm sure you're interested anyway, right?

Hahahaha!!

Why do people think I wanna do this for free?

Before you say for the joy or love of it or some new age garbage stuff....ask your father if he works for free?

how very bright you all are! :^^:

first, this is not something very demanding of your time, its more like a hobby, so stop all that "would you work for free?" ... I'm doing it for free! and i'm not selling anything..

So if anyone is interested or wants more info just e-mail me

Actually you are very lucky that everyone is treating this as humorous :)

1. You were probably a little "unknowing" on how many artists feel on this subject so I dug up some threads, they are a good read.

post on the topic with links! (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=35337&highlight=work+free)

another (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=30966&highlight=work+free)

another (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=28912&highlight=work+free)

there is a lot more, but there is just a few found using the search function.

2. The response is a TON less hostile and humorous when posted in the correct section! Non-Paying Job Listings (http://www.conceptart.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=44)

So before you get upset at the response, check out the structure of the boards! :) and be thankful the response was mostly humorous.

first, this is not something very demanding of your time, its more like a hobby

That is most certainly not for you to decide
take care and maybe a mod will move this to its proper place and the comedy show will move on (though it was a rather entertaining read)

I got a good laugh while reading this thread. From the "I was looking to create an online comic-book but i need people who can draw." to all the comments thereafter... nothing but a good laugh.

Seriously, you should drop more info then that in the 1st post if you are serious. I didn't take anything you have posted thus far seriously. In fact, the more i read, the less i was willing to assist you.

Artists get used left and right then tossed to the dogs. Most of us get billions of requests like yours all the time, and don't have a thousand manhours to spend each day on all these freebie ideas which inevitably go noplace. Personally, i took down my portfolio and gave up on advertising online because of people like yourself who harrass me all the time.

But i digress...Anyhow, this thread was a good laugh. :tihi:

I'm not really upset about the answers I got in here.

The thing is, I said in the beggining that it wasn't going to be payed. I'm not trying to scam anyone. And I would have put it in the right section, but I must have missed it..
I really think that everyone should have a contract or payed upfront for their work, but since this wasn't going to be paid, I was only counting on the "good will" of someone who had some free time, and was willing to do this just for fun.

I have some ideas for an E-comic, or graphic novel, and I would really like to do something with it. And the Internet is a fast way to find what you need (in this case and artist).

I will explain this project so that I can get more feedback.. (comedy is good also :) )

I love comics, and I used to read alot of them but lately their quality has been declining... and like anyone who reads comics I created some "heros" of my own..

The Project: I would write the episodes (texts or whatever) and someone would draw it.
I would have to create the webpage, and maybe buy my own domain for the project.

Anyways.. Tell me what you think of it.

Did you consider oh... I dunno. LEARNING TO DRAW!?

Rudy
September 6th, 2005, 01:05 AM
ok.. when if your not even trying to be funny your just annoying..
If you dont like the idea just leave it alone. it's not hard. just ignore me!
its cool! no harm done

ok. now for some serious subjects.
If you all want to get payed.. this is kinda hard for me until I can get a steady job, but all the pro's how much would you charge for an A4 page divided in two stripes ?

Depends on content. Cartoons? Black and white? Foll color? Shaded/shadowed? Realism? Sketchy? Jpg or swf?

A sketchy jpg you can find help for amost anyplace. most beginners to intermediate students do that kind of thing for themselves all the time so that is probably your best bet. But if you want something nice, crisp, in color, painted and such, then you are talking a lot of time.

Think of it this way, a full painting takes anyplace from 20-80 hours depending on detail. Most artists in my area are paid a range from 20-60 bucks an hour for their work. The higher the quality, the higher the pay. Also, an artist of high ability takes less time then an amature achieving the same depth of detail.

A sketched comic strip (3panel) takes me anyplace from 30mins to one hour. If inked, then up to 2-3 hours. If colored, up to 6 hours. Usually i get paid about 35 an hour for my work. Or i get a flat rate which often pays about the same, unless i up my work effort and get done in less time, making the hourly breakdown higher.

I am sure some of the guys here make a boat load more then me, but i do this as a passtime since im going for my masters (currently) in my university.

Anyhow, just trying to help you out. That is a gist of professional costs and rates. Every artist, however, is paid differently.

ps. If you want vector art the price almost triples as it takes a boat load more time. (some artists are fast at it though, but they usually specialize)

Most of what LB said is close to the mark, I generally charge around $45-$70 an hour depending on the type of job.

Also...we're called concept artist or illustrators or painters or imagineers...not "drawers".

On that subject...

Some kids never looked it up in the dictionary and realized that the meaning of "drawer" doesn't extend to "drawing." But most of them don't even care. I have a friend who still refers to herself as a drawer. She tells me, "I know, but i'm just used to it, so whatever." It's actually a bit annoying. Some bad habits are hard to break, but this? ~~

I've corrected someone and they thoughy i was cocky for being so picky. :[

I assume your friend is also not a very good "drawer".

HAHAHAAH! For good drawers, visit the link i posted earlier. Bad drawers tend to fall apart, jam or break. And it does this only while containing your most precious belongings. Better safe than sorry!

To mr. threadstarter: If your idea and story is good enough, im sure you'll find someone who's willing to help you. But its crucial that you post it in the right section if you want serious feedback. If you post it in the non-paying job section, you will get the attention of those who are looking for non-paying jobs. But you better have a damn good idea if you want someone with skill. Because if an artist is good enough to get paid for his work, he will be browsing the "paid jobs" section instead. And as far as non paying jobs go for someone who would otherwise be able to sell his work... well you'd have to have something that the artist really like on a personal level, something he would want to have as a hobby. :P

I'd suggest typing up an outline of your story, setting, characters and other info. This way its easier to attract help. Not everyone bothers to PM you to get the details. But if you have details readily avaiable, you might hook them before they loose interest.

Good writers would be able to read through the forums enough to notice there's a section for this.
And this truly questions your writing skills.

Wish I had mod status for the lounge section, or I would have just moved this to the non-paying job section and saved everyone all the muss and fuss

MUHAHAHAHAHA! I HAVE!!!! ....and now i will take over the woooorrrraarrrrghhhh.... :perv:

But to stick to teh topic...i don't see why all of you are so upset...i mean ok, it's not fun for an artist to draw things and don't get paid for....BUT he just wants to do a project on the web and is looking for someone who is interested, if you're not leave it...

First of all thanks for the constructive opinions and the ideas on how I should have really introduced this project.

Like I said in my first post I am new here, and when browsing the forums I did saw the Employment one, but I didnt see the Non-Paying listings, thats why I posted in the Lounge.
Why should this mean that I am a bad writer??
I'd say that some of you were just waiting for someone to bash right?? well let me just tell you something, its not mandatory to comment! Please do so only when you can say something funny, or at least funny!

My vote would go for the "draw.......cash" !!

I'll start a new post with some of the ideas I have and leave this one for the jokes :}
