April 1st, 2003, 04:31 PM
10 min speed sp - i just wanted to be first :D
btw: where's oblio?
April 1st, 2003, 04:50 PM
looking for me? :D
(you won't get far with it Dr. Keyth... :chug: )
April 1st, 2003, 08:03 PM
an older one... but I'm gonna start posting more... so yeah.
April 1st, 2003, 09:18 PM
Took a break from the oil and did this one.
Retro - Not bad for a 10 minute job :D That oil is coming, it's a learning exercise for me right now, I've never used oils before and I'm running into a lot of problems I have to fix. It's fun though.
Oblio - Nice to see you again man, please do more SP's again sometime soon. This place has gone dead.
Ravaran - Nicely done, I would have liked to see a little more play with your edges. Right now all your edges are a little sharp, some softer edges could help unflatten spots and bring more form. Keep them coming.
April 1st, 2003, 09:41 PM
Ah heres a SP of mine...
Id say it was within the hour, 2 hour range.
April 2nd, 2003, 05:34 AM
everyone's off to a great start!
so i decided andrew's not to the only one to do shirtless self portraits :)
April 2nd, 2003, 10:10 AM
Nice job everyone!
Blackhawk-pay attention to the shadow on the neck and chin, there could be more of a hint of reflected light under the chin to give it depth. It looks great!
Toaster- watch your proportions. draw it out on paper first. Your forehead is too short and eyes are too big, nose too long. great use of color
nova-good job....lets see more:D
April 2nd, 2003, 10:57 AM
i thought i was the only person that was allowed to see nova naked :(
April 2nd, 2003, 11:27 AM
Davi Im all curious now lol, dont think she is naked anyway... or am I missing out something.
P.S Great job guys, I don\t have any self potrait but... next time maybe :(
April 2nd, 2003, 11:28 AM
April 2nd, 2003, 12:46 PM
I think you guys need to get out more. :cuddle:
April 2nd, 2003, 02:45 PM
Benzo: If you saw my face you would understand =P My Art teacher says it reminds her of a Magliani (sp?) painting...
Oh and my forehead is covered up by hair that falls down and curls up =P
April 2nd, 2003, 04:36 PM
hmm. i tried a painting attempt, but spoilt it badly. so i went with this fake charcoal instead.
@nova: i like that last piece, though you look a bit like from the planet vulcan :D
@blackhawk: just take your time. still i am "gespannt wie ein flitzebogen" like some weird people in germany used to say ;)
@oblio: any chance we can see some of your latest experiments..?
April 2nd, 2003, 05:15 PM
Someone - please put me out of my misery :D
New task - Do your Retro face :D
I've tried and.. well see for yourself.
Retro: my latest experiments? show me yours i'll show you mine :D
when you'll show your painting experiments... i'll post my crapy sketches. come on - we can both learn and rock!
davi - it looks like you still are the man :D get that smile back.
Ironspy - you got Oblio's point there :)
Nova - superb values - strong post lines too :D Keep em comming
Toaster - umm.. lovely colors. The line on the left (edge of your face) bothers me like hell.
Blackhawk - thank you frined - here - i'm back for a day or two - depends on the time (it's hell here).
You rock harder and harder man - you're getting super good. That left eye is misplaced though :chug:
well.. see you soon.
April 2nd, 2003, 05:19 PM
usually i dont like posting without a pic, but:
OBLIO THIS IS SUPER COOL!!!!!!!
i absolutely love it!!!
btw: aint i posting enough crap already?! ok, i gonna scan some shit tomorrow, get yours ready too.
Wizard of KOZ
April 2nd, 2003, 07:31 PM
Females....how they love to mess with your head...
nova: very nice..has an old B&W movie feel to it.
Toaster: Sweet, I love the colors you used, very bold!
Blackhawk: Damn that is sweet...though it looks like you have a cold :D
Ravaran: excellent use of negative space.
Obilio: Your growth knows no bounds....I can't believe how good you've gotten. Truely an inspiration.
April 3rd, 2003, 04:21 AM
MISPLACED FEATURES AHOY!!
Benzo - Yeah, your right. I didn't notice much of a reflected light when observing, but every little bit helps and it doesn't hurt to help pop out spots. I'll have to make note of that next time. I also thought the shirt got a little flat as well, I could have used something else there.
Oblio - Bad ass man. Your getting better and better, you just never see it :D Great work and thanks. Yeah, I noticed something was funky with either the eyes or the nose. I think it may be the nose, it's too short and shifted for my actual features. It's my problem right now, I either hit the nose too short or too long. It's funny though how you fix one problem spot and another rears it's ugly head. I still remember the terrible time I had with getting the eyes on the same axis, ugh... lol. Time, practice, perseverence, and patience are what is needed.
Nova - Nicely done. Nose form, especially around the nostrils is kind of funky, but overall good piece, plus it's shirtless, and we can't complain with that :D.
Retro - I am taking my time, I'm still going to crank these out until I get it done. I find myself attacking it in spurts right now. I just need to really sit down and paint for awhile. Good work man.
Wizard - Nice colors man, perspective and feature angles seem odd, but your use of color is great. Very dramatic and very nicely done.
Toaster - Watch out for proportions and feature placement. Everything seems a bit elongated. Really look and you'll see it. Keep it up though bud and great work. Keep working and growing.
April 3rd, 2003, 03:58 PM
im not in the mood a posting even more crap today. maybe tomorrow.
April 3rd, 2003, 05:39 PM
i don't like this one i had trouble with the nose and mouth so i just left them out:( http://images.deviantart.com/large/indyart/indymisc/--tar_heels--.jpg
April 3rd, 2003, 05:41 PM
uh - come on people? Roll those Sp's :D
First - a huge Thank YOu to you all.
I dind't had much time for drawing lately so this comes like a nice surprise for me too. Just o see if i'm still at it - here goes another one (mostly becouse i've already did some cast drawing earlier)
i've used a photo for ref - but i've exagerated a bit. just a bit.
uh - after posting it i see tons of flaws. no time to fix now.
RETRO - Wanna join me? Everyone is invited. HERE (http://22.214.171.124/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=43784#post43784)
April 3rd, 2003, 07:05 PM
im really bad at painting so i am just going crazy with the colours for now...im going to try to be more subtle..
April 3rd, 2003, 11:48 PM
i guess this counts as a self portrait right?
April 4th, 2003, 12:56 AM
i started a few...then i realized how badly i wanted a wacom tablet so i gave up and did a really messy one with a mouse in PS7
a glimpse at my failed attempts....
ew...what was i thinking with the colors
Wizard of KOZ
April 4th, 2003, 01:25 AM
Thanks for the comments Blackhawk, I totally see what you're saying about the perspectives...that and my nose is freaking huge! lol.
Well here is another....I wanted to make myself look like a statue...I have normal version without the noise if anyone wants to see it.
April 4th, 2003, 05:56 AM
Ugh, everything broke on me today.
I'll comment tomorrow when I wake up, I'm exhausted and I feel like shit.
April 4th, 2003, 10:47 PM
good job everyone! (i'm not smart enough to say anything constructive)
ugh...can't wait til i get a wacom
April 5th, 2003, 05:52 AM
Worked off a picture feed from my webcam while playing a nice selection of music from Live. I lost focus somewhere in the shading. Too tired to do any coloring, but this is miles better than the last... er, attempt.
"Itís easier not to be wise
And measure these things by your brains
I sank into Eden with you..."
Blackhawk: You do amazing work.
Wizard Of KOZ: The last one reminds me of UT
slowpoke: The first one in your series of three is fantastic.
April 5th, 2003, 06:01 PM
I couldn't keep up the smile
April 5th, 2003, 07:04 PM
This time it was the Doves.
Webcams are very handy for this type of thing.
April 5th, 2003, 11:34 PM
life without a wacom...
silvrain - i like pencil sketches and the colors are great on the second one. Colors can really set the mood. does it reflect the mood/music at the time?
miasmak - cool effect with the colors, i need to learn how get crazy with colors
blackhawk - awesome, i'm a fan of purposeful unfinished work...if that makes sense
wizard of kos - cool, i can feel the statue-ness. it's dark and mysterious prolly cuz of the eyes.
eyes are the windows to the soul...
keep em coming, i'm learning lots!
April 6th, 2003, 02:47 AM
hi all. i think this is my first post on these sp forums. did this one this evening. i've been looking at a lot of fechin lately. i hope you all dont think me a dinosaur using traditional media:) anyway, i painted this from life, about 1.5 hours....and ALOT of paint. sometimes i feel like i paint too thin. time to overcompensate.
April 6th, 2003, 07:31 PM
oblio : you're getting better and better.. and better. try toning things, i mean try giving more of your surfaces a value. for example, on your last pic you could totally add some shading to the eyes and underneath your bangs going over your forehead. paying attention to things like that will make your drawings look more realistic. you could also add some tone to your cheeks to bring out your face structure.
crunchh : ahh very nice. definitely an interpretive portrait.
broken : sure it does, looks good to me :)
slowpoke : you have a cool line style in your latest portrait.. embellish that, add more lines and vary the widths. check this (http://www.geocities.com/putsthelotion/art/self010803.jpg) out. sorry to use this example, it was the quickest i could find :)
mia : i like the freedom in your portraits..
silvrain : Doves, that's bound to produce something beautiful.
coro : awesome.. keep painting :)
April 7th, 2003, 12:42 AM
el coro-you rock.
big slump as of late, im having alot of trouble tightening things up, as im realizing that ive never really done so before. makes me feel like a noob :(
April 7th, 2003, 04:50 PM
Looking great - it really takes some time before a head even resembles a sculpture - that's what I 'm been trying to get - no color really, just some kinda mass!
El Coro - ahh textures looks great - ear looks flattened the saturation though. neck looks a little flat too.
jhibbs - have you been following Android's posts? They're great for seeing the planes and simplification fo the face (and pure envy!)
April 7th, 2003, 07:13 PM
Done entirely with PSP 7's whack little leaf tool. What a fun tool to play with, that's for sure. Worked off another webcam feed, but worked much larger than I'm used to. Eminem this time 'round.
April 7th, 2003, 08:57 PM
Comments later tonight, sorry for missing you guys this weekend, weekends suck for me now.
April 7th, 2003, 10:22 PM

April 8th, 2003, 12:19 AM
Today was my birthday(turned 20) thats whats with all the ballons and stuff...i'm havin trouble with noses and mouths lately...o well http://images.deviantart.com/large/indyart/indymisc/--you_can_find_me_in_da_club--.jpg
coro: i'm in love with all your artwork
blackhawk: it makes my day everytime i come and see your portraits...keep on keepin on
keyth: beautiful as always
silvrain: i like what you did with the leaf brush in ps7...looks great
April 8th, 2003, 02:01 AM
hello to all the new people since ive been away, i gotta bring my wacom home with me next time :P
farley-good color choices and whatnot, try a bigger brush next time though (if you can spare the RAM, thats why i dont use painter, lousy 128 mb) and yea, andrew's quite an inspiration. if it werent for him id still be drawing like this:
blackhawk-still at it i see, how many you up to? have you done any oils yet? i dont recall seeing any...
experimenting again, think i may be on to something with the second one (been looking at alot of craig's pics for new techniques) alot of low opacity layering and going over it again and again :P fun stuff
April 8th, 2003, 03:30 AM
Silvrain - Nice work man, each one is getting better than the one previous. It's nice seeing that kind of improvement. Thanks for the words man.
Mia - Great to see you back again. Looking good except the right side of the face lost a little bit of form. Welcome back.
Slowpoke - Thank you. You did an excellent job on this one. Very nice job with the form on the face itself.
El Coro - Damn nice seeing you here. It's always great to see the big dogs join in with us. Inspiring work man.
Nova - Great job with this study SP, I need to do more of these, it's a great way to practice facial features.
Jhibbs - Thanks bud. I am working on an oil, which I am failing miserably on. I ended up wiping it, I absolutely hated it. I think I need to learn how to paint traditionally period, it was a real frustrating experience for me, but I gotta start somewhere. Nice experimentation bud. I'm up to 151 SP's that I've posted, about 160 if you count the ones I'm too ashamed to post... lol. How many you at so far?
Rockstar - Thank you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY man. I turned 21 acouple weeks ago, felt great to go skiing for my birthday and skip work for a weekend :D If your having trouble with noses and the mouth, then pull double duty and concentrate hard on working on those features. You'll never improve on those problem spots if your too afraid to make a mistake on them. I know, trust me :D
Crunch - Stylized, I like this one a lot, it has a lot of form to it, very nicely done.
Keyth - Meaty. You have great form on all of your SP's bud, something I'm still having trouble accomplishing. You going to go for a full color SP one of these days? :D Great work bud.
Farley - Be careful on the left side of the face, that side isn't interacting too well and it's flattened out. Give some more play between warms and cools and it should help you with the form in that spot. Keep it up.
April 8th, 2003, 03:51 AM
First self-portrait that I've done in at least five years. I had to do an avatar image, so I thought I might as well post it here as well. Started out as a quick ballpoint pen sketch, and then a few hours in photoshop. It feels a bit more like a colored drawing, and less like a painting to me; I didn't focus enough on form when I did this.
April 8th, 2003, 01:03 PM
sorry this one was larger than usual i had to do a crappy scanstitch. also i added a couple highlights in photoshop.
April 8th, 2003, 06:09 PM
Hey thanks for the comments Black Hawk, I'll definitely try even harder to incorperate the colder tones into the shadows, I keep trying to do that "backround through the face" style Andrew does so well [shrug].
Yeah jhibbs massive improvement! The last one looks good - might be some issues arround the mouth - hard to tell.
lpetty - next one try some nice sharp shadows across your face - it's way more fun :) And put some odd colors maybe!
nice lines retro - I have to try that sometime.
April 8th, 2003, 07:00 PM
just screwin around..
April 9th, 2003, 02:34 AM
blackhawk-this is oficially the 210th day from when i started, although i have a few more than i need (probably more like 220) somewhere during the last two months i totally lost control of keeping track (because most of the last 1.5 months were traditional), i had to calculate the days and all. tis a shame, cuz id like to have a show of them (at my school) after a year and include them all, i got alot of photographing to do. :p
and about the oils, just buy some cheap huge tubes (winton and daler-rowney are cheap and big) and paint as much as you can. i bought high end stuff to start (gamblin) and theres no point, youre gonna make crap to start anyway (best advice my teacher ever gave me, its ok to make some real SHIT sometimes, its gonna happen :p takes awhile to get the hang of it, im just starting to after 2 semesters). also gessoed paper (thick, like bristol or watercolor) is a cheap fast way to have alot of painting surfaces that dont take up tons of space.
i recieved very little technical instruction at my school, as they dont wanna enforce any one style/idea/blahblahblah over another, not a bad way to learn though. kinda like how you started drawing, you didnt ask anyone how to use the pencil. slightly more complex, but think about how long youve used other things before you used them well.
just wondering, .who all is still doing this everyday and hasnt ever missed one (without making it up the next day with 2)? cuz it seems like its on a steady decline. i have no plans of stopping until at least a year, of course by that time itll be easier to remember than brusing my teeth (last week was the first time i missed one since september, and i awoke guilt-stricken in the middle of the night several times :P ).
continuing with the same style as last time, im finally feeling like im getting somewhere
April 9th, 2003, 04:30 AM
WIP of a piece. It's getting way too late to finish. Tomorrow I will.
April 9th, 2003, 02:10 PM
April 9th, 2003, 02:21 PM
Broken, thats so fucking awesome, I am really impressed, it ends too soon I really wanted to see more of the robot face underneath, its still a great tease, good job.
April 9th, 2003, 02:31 PM
dude holy cow that is fantastic you aren't kiddin Andrew....sheesh! AWESOME AWESOME! :o  :jawdrop:
April 9th, 2003, 04:52 PM
damn i want one!
April 9th, 2003, 06:43 PM
Not really sure if this 'counts', just something I cranked out in Photoshop, maybe 40 minutes. Just playing around. Jawline and shoulder's messed, but I think I got the expression right.
brokencow: that is the coolest thing I've seen all month. That's f*cking amazing.
nova: the lip-biting sketches are damned amazing.
rockstar4783: minimalism rocks. wild colors, dude.
lpetty: very nice coloring. The texturing's a nice touch.
retro: damn, man. You said so much in a minimal of pencil strokes. fantastic.
farley13: the high-contrast set a great mood to that one. the one visible eye has great lines.
Crunch: I like how you're not shy about using random colors in your pieces.
Blackhawk: just awesome. The orange highlighting across the cheekbones rocks, can't wait to see that one finished
jhibbs: you've been doing this for 210 days? good lord. that's amazing. guess you don't have webspace to post all of them, it would be kickass to see the progression from day one. your style is fantastic. talk about dedication. I just started this few days ago and i've managed one every 1-2 days.
April 9th, 2003, 08:00 PM
it does end too soon, perhaps i'll add more...it's not due till next wednesday so i'll see what time permits...
April 9th, 2003, 08:07 PM
hey cow what class is it for?
April 10th, 2003, 12:24 AM
Time and Light - Andrew Connelly
April 10th, 2003, 03:18 AM
word, more junk from me.
silvrain-yea hardly seems like ive been going for so long. at one time i had them up from the beginning but as you can imagine it gets to be alot to deal with, ill show you any if you want though, i went through some odd phases (in all of january i didnt use any opacity settings, some of my favorites still). theres a good amount up here:
. and just for kicks heres two from the first day, one in painter (i stay away from painter now, more for RAM problems than anything else) and one in photoshop.
and todays, in photoshop. i think theres a bit of progress
April 10th, 2003, 04:36 AM
Still working away at yesterday's. I really only had an hour to work on this one, just got home from work not too long ago and now it's time for bed unfortunately. Night all and incredible stuff, comments tomorrow, it's my day off.
April 10th, 2003, 07:29 PM
yeah i had trouble with the nose and mouth on this one but u did do them:mad: http://images.deviantart.com/large/indyart/indymisc/--crippty_crap_crap--.jpg
April 11th, 2003, 01:13 AM
We are currently upgrading our systems to improve our hosting and domain products. Services will not be available between the hours of 11:00pm to 8:00am on April 10, 2003. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
April 11th, 2003, 02:27 AM
Still trying that backround through type of SP. The vid definitely will help me in the future not to over-render noses :) (like I did here!)
rockstar4783 -try to concentrate on form instead of outline, and give yourself a nice strong lightsource!
Blackhawk - interesting to see a work in progress, nice strong colors.
jhibbs - haha a bit of progress :) left eye looks a little off, but I'm tired . .
Silvrain - stylized!
April 11th, 2003, 05:29 AM
Pretty close to finished with this one. It will need a few more tweaks, especially around the ear and mouth. It feels good trying to really flesh one of these out for once.
April 11th, 2003, 08:22 AM
hi there, hows it going yall? im kinda nervous to post here, ive seen some nice portraits here. well, heres some recent self-portraits ive done, nothing really outta the norm.
sorry if its big, i cant seem to shrink the picture, it blows it back up on my server or something.

April 11th, 2003, 10:56 PM
quick sp, trying something different
April 12th, 2003, 12:14 AM
Wow, there are some really great SPs going on here. I really like the mood in a lot of them. Please keep them coming, there is a lot of emotion to all of them.
April 12th, 2003, 01:01 AM
didn't use mirror for this.. doesn't look like me.. but its a self portrait. hehe
April 12th, 2003, 01:58 AM
thenetbox - even if your doing one w/ out a mirror pay attention to the proportions!
Crunch - have you tirted one with just value? that might freshen you up!
pibb991 - looks great! some line/texure varience would add even more!
Blackhawk- yes yes it does look good as well!
eh lazy today :D
April 12th, 2003, 02:26 AM
jhibbs, finally eh?
April 12th, 2003, 03:39 PM
April 12th, 2003, 06:50 PM
finally did a more detailed sp the other day in pastels on toned canson paper 18 x 24. i have to do 5 more for my class, so it should be pretty fun. the next one will be in caran dache. great job everyone! i am on modem, so its hard to come on here all the time and crit peoples things. awesome sps blackhawk and keyth. you guys are awesome, and i mean totally sweet.
April 12th, 2003, 07:33 PM
I did the latest one on a solo groupboard... maybe an hour's worth.
For those of you who don't know what a GB is, it's an instrument of torture much akin to Microsoft Paint, but without any kind of useful pallette. Since you can't exactly save, I took a screen of the useless tools I had to work with, along with the pic.
Next post, comments.
April 12th, 2003, 09:09 PM
holy shit daarken, what a breakthrough, that is amazing, the colors the mood the pose, are a;; fantastic. by far my new favorite,
ps you looks kind of like jason manely in this portrait, in a good mean way
April 12th, 2003, 09:24 PM
April 12th, 2003, 11:01 PM
andrew: what can i say, your response made my day. thanks for the confidence boost! i needed it. thanks for the pm too, it really helped out a lot.
April 13th, 2003, 07:51 AM
hey oblio, this is for you. though it doesnt look like, i spent 2 hours on this... probably not what we were going for... bah.
@darken: wow. :eek:
April 13th, 2003, 03:00 PM
Nice contors on that retro, color would be great to see again.
Just great use of color daarken!
Silvrain - any reason for the torture? :)
tried to do a smooth one finally, kinda did one:
can't look at both eyes at once, think they're crooked or somthing !
April 13th, 2003, 06:09 PM
Uh.. mi God.. wat gorgius stufi - oblio goes amazed!
Here is a Oblio portrait he did few days ago but didn't had the time to upload - duh...
Retro - no this is NOT my 2 hours assignment! (this is just few minutes)
Not much sleep here as you can see.
Darken - you rock.
Blackhawck - you rock!!!
Keyth - you rock!
Retro - YOu rock!
And so on... :D Everyone rocks here!
Retro - no - i feel like we're off the point a bit. I was looking for a 2 hours rendering job - some larger brushes... planes, VALUE, no hatch, just tones, smooth, realistic approach.
The FORM is realy STRONG with you :D Me wants to see values!
I'll try to do my 2 hours work just on those guidelines. I guess we should have tried even easier(??) goal - a 2 hour job for a sphere, or a cube! What thinks you, Her Retro?
April 13th, 2003, 09:25 PM
holy crap, i haven't posted in a frickin' long time, but great stuff everybody! And Nova, you've got some of the most beautiful portraits, like, ever.
ok, I got a really cool red lamp in my room, and put it to good use:
also done with Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata in repeat, not that anyone cares, but yeah, ok, gonna be quiet now :)
April 14th, 2003, 09:12 AM
Clay - it's a nice change from your poster like ones. More! (nice lamp too mr :) )
Keyth - i've found some Amelie Soundtrack and remembered your long SP nights. I suggest to find that CD and let's get the days back :D
April 14th, 2003, 09:18 AM
Jeez! Darken and Clay.....
Those are some of the finest work I have seen in a while. Excellent work!
April 14th, 2003, 03:45 PM
Fixed this old one up a little bit. V V
Lots of great work everybody.
April 14th, 2003, 10:41 PM
Decided to patiently sketch a SP..
I hope I get replies to this one :)
Faxtar> nice work.. I like the style
Clay> looks great!
Oblio> thats freakish awesome. really awesome to see you come so far :)
farley> nice.. interesting texture
retro> great style
PS. Why are noses so hard? they move too much.. or atleast mine does.. I'll have to chain it up.
April 15th, 2003, 01:33 AM
Incredible work guys. I'll definitely critique in a little bit, too many good works in the last few days to not too.
April 15th, 2003, 02:31 AM
Nice couple Blackhawk!
I must say dito on the crits, gotta play with me backround like you do so well!

jerry-its about bloody time! MORE!
farley-nice sense of light on the pastel-ish one, despite the slight lopsidedness
lots of mixed media fun goin on here.
April 16th, 2003, 03:12 AM
very sure strokes on those Jhibbs!
strong profile on that last one!
Thanks on the pastel one, doin' these late at night, my vision feels about as lopsided!
brokencow - looks very loose! nicely done.
Oblio - looks good, don't be afraid of just shading anyhting lat looks under shadow ()below hair ie.
thenetbox - form looks pretty solid, but try to get some nice shadows across your face, don't be afraid to overshade :)
- mine is decidely flat, semi inspired by norman rockwell, tried to use color to define the form. pretty happy dunno: http://www.contrib.andrew.cmu.edu/~afarley/me8.jpg

Don't get to participate in these spod's much these days, but it's always refreshing to look at all the great works.
Anyway, throwing in this recent one, maybe I'll even get to jump back into it soon.

Bah. I think I captured a mood, and not a representation.
Signature: you working from a reference? It helps for the first few tries.
hed|lamb: everything you did with that is fantastic. The thick lines and black and gray, the exaggerated features.. do more. A-1, dude.
holycoww74: that turned out nicely. Painter, watercolors I assume? The eyes turned out to be a cool focal point to the pic.
farley13: niiice colors. On the watercolory one, it almost seems like the lower left of the neck is missing some of the warm facial colors. Otherwise, dang, really nice job.
jhibbs: ink washes? Man, even with classic media... The two partially colored ones are tremendous. Shadow's gotta be your strongpoint.
brokencow: turned out good. what program you use for that?
Blackhawk: The way you do noses.. man. Reminiscent of Burne Hogarth, absolutely fantastic.
April 17th, 2003, 11:47 PM
i'm really tired and lazy, so this isnt too involved.
April 18th, 2003, 12:45 AM
thanks farley.. i'll try that next time :)

saw the thread and did a quick sp. took around 2 hours. no sp is right without a cracked face. you gotta do it sometime. only thing that was tough was i couldnt get myself to do the face again i started with. i dont know how i did it at first. soo somethings changed as i worked on it. leadin to some facial structures that dont seem to look right. anyways. just a piece for fun. later =P
April 20th, 2003, 04:56 AM
scratched - ueah know what you mean, usually I'll just have to try to fudge it to keep the form solid . . hard to keep the smae angles etc.!!
tried somthing more fundimental again:
kinda fudged obviously :)

Was really happy today, good feeling :)
Empty paints - that looks great ! Liquify tool?
Faxtar - looks pretty good I might recomend leavoing more white, or employing some method to the shading.
RudeCorleone - make sure your facial structure wraps arround the basic masses :)

Aah Rusty Mmm supersaturated nose highlight yum
Farley, sort of vacant new born expression, very interesting the linework reminds me of super soft charcoal or something.

April 29th, 2003, 08:36 PM

I profusely apologize for not doing any kind of commenting, so here it goes.
Farley - Thanks for the compliments. Your on the right track, keep up the experimentation, be mindful of the masses your drawing or painting though. Your stuff is still reading flat in spots. It's getting better and better though, keep pushing those warms and cools.
Killing - Thanks bud, where have you been? Show yourself again, we need another sp man :D
Keyth - You call that Rusty? Puhh, all of your SP's are so meaty, there's an immense amount of dimension to them. I only wish I could get the form you get. Everything just pops. Very nice bud.
Rusty - Thanks a lot bud. This last SP of yours is incredible. That nose just popped out at me, very nicely done with the colors. When are you going to finish off this sucker? Good to see you around again bud.
Mia - LOL, yeah, the one and only smile SP. I think it's the first smile SP I've ever done. I just feel too good right now to have not done one.
Daarken - Thanks man, your work is just spectacular. I've been looking over all of your Caran Dache stuff. I haven't commented much on it, but trust me, I love every bit of it, great work man.
MCM - Hey bud, great SP, good to see you pay another visit in here, what have you been up to bud?
Wow, it's great seeing the old crew in here again, now we are just missing Oblio, Jester, Lionel, and a few others.
April 30th, 2003, 10:14 AM
umm, sorry i'm not too much into commenting. of course you're all doing great :D

Howdy, haven't posted since.. well.. early December :P I'm rusty..
Nice to see some of you still here after all this time.. says much about your dedication.
Nice oil paint look farley.. just a wee bit tilted.
PS: I know i have to be bolder with light/shadow but I painted this one in the dark pretty much, so it looked brighter on the monitor >_<
