Hello everyone,

I'm a long time lurker, first time poster. I'm posting here to see what people here think of my photography.

This is actually my 4th real attempt at photography, I was aksed to photograph an early rehearsal of a play a friend of mine had written. The lightning on-site was horrible, half the room recieved no or very little light and the other half had spots on it wich basically gave too much lightning so bear with me please.

All shots were taken using a Nikon D70 (my fathers). ISO setting was at 1600, to compensate for the horrible lightning but also more specifically for the added grain, wich I think suits these photographs well (and theatre photography in general). Mild post-processing was done in photoshop mainly to tweak brightness and contrast and switching everything to black and white. Nothing really artificial was done. (read : nothing you wouldn't be able to do in a dark room).

Comment and of course critisim welcome. The pictures below are just a small selection.

Thanks,

it seems you made good with what little lighting you say you had. i wouldnt considar these as portfolio material, but definately good enough to go along with the make of the play, such as pics for a site and so forth.nice work with the shadows too.

Now, i see a man on the floor, outlined, and a girl screaming with her head flying back. whats the play about?

*cough* The "girl" is actually a man with long hair. He screams because he's losing control. The play is about autism in a way. Where four people represent the autist and the several facets of his mind. The man on the floor is the "new person", the anomaly in their system and messes up the entire structure that is in place, leading in to conflict, escalation and eventually and unsatisfying conclusion. A bit hard to explain.

This is all a student project, everyone involved is arround the age of 17-18 (including me). Given the fact that I'm relatively inexpierenced in photography I'm pleased with the results. I'm certainly tempted to go out and do more photography, see where I can get when I actually *learn* something about photography. Beyond the basics I currently grasp.

This is a really good 4th attempt IMO.

i like the composition in the first pic, but maybe you could try cropping off some of the right of the picture - it might make it tighter or it might make it look worse, im not sure.

The second picture is a tad blurry, but i really like it. It mimicks 'rea'/'professional' photographs well.

The third picture is a good action shot but is grainy, you could try cleaning the grain up a little in photoshop.

I like the depth of perception and the composition of the fourth picture. Did anyone ever teach you rules of photography? There seems to be a bit of a contrast issue - it might look better if you upped the contrast a bit.

The fifth is interesting because the guy gets lost in the blackboard behind him, but aside from that i dont really like it much.

the last is interesting and once again good at mimicking other photo styles that i've seen in movies or what not.

the contrast of all these photos is quite interesting, gives the series a unique feel - was this intentional or due to the lighting? i like the style but it makes them seem less clear and defined.
