Painter, 30mins. I don't have time to color it until later (2ish est), so until then!

BTW, the beard is going to be fire, hence the "lit by candlelight".

Here it is. I know the devil should be illuminated by candlelight and such, but I didn't want to. :P I had reference for the skull, but it ended up abit...strange. Comments appreciated. :yayca:

"And so the brave monks banned this devil by placing a sacred candle on his forehead. Unable to move, the creature could only wait as the wax dripped down its face, forming a most peculiar 'beard' around its chin.
Humiliated, it returned to the fiery depths from where it came when the candle finally went out, but it swore bitter revenge."

The devil will read a book or two once in a while too , what is it EL Diablo Reads ? http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a388/Mr_S_14/CandlelightDevil.jpg the large candle is just a better veiw of the small one next to Devil ., I just thought I'd put Diablo relaxing, reading a book. and I did, IT turned out something entirely different than I first imagine, I am Proud and happy still. I will attempt what I first thought of another time.

(please please comment on it... I need attention ....)

This DSG stuff is fun. Here's my take on the topic. I've included a closeup of the "beard":

About 30min in PS

OK so it's a big candle in the back...

Heh dark that was my first thought when i read it; the beard should be made out of people(or souls).

As a mid-classed informant demon, Yadeazeal's most unique feature is his multipurpose beard, useful for burning the midnight oil and for gathering information in various peculiar ways.
painter, pretty quick, possibly 30ish?

Wolfess, I enjoy your devil creature and how the tail curls around the candle , the skull is a nice touch also.

BrianL, I Can almost feel the textures. How much time did it take ?

Hamsta ,I like the expression/personality of your portrait of el diablo decent.

Darkchild, Pretty colors, I like the brightness.

"The demon Merchants have over time evolved many strange ways of alluring your attention, One such candle merchant grew himself a strange beckoning hand to draw the attention of potential customers... However the candle merchant down the street evolved lazer-show ears... and our poor demon went harshly out of business"

about 2 mins sketched in pen and made up as i went along...

Had lots of ideas for the beard when i read this, the main one being an animal of some sort tangled in a goofy looking demons beard...

here's my devil. it didn't turn out how i had imagined though.
i found myself sacrificing a strong/dramatic light source to retain the detail in the face.
but i guess when dealing with the likes of devils, sacrifices are inevitable...
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b55/atomicsushi74/devil1.jpg

-btw, what's the difference between a devil & a demon?
is a demon more of a beast?

•i can't seem to leave my dsg's alone for long.
i've spent another 30minutes tweeking the lil' devil (bout 2 1/2 hrs total).
he kind of looks like a celtic monk devil (if that even makes any sense)

I couldn't think of a good way to work a candle in there. I think I screwed his eyebrow up there on the right.

I find it cool how people are giveing the devil animal legs.
goran- That's evil looking man.
brianl-That's so friggin awesome.
darkchild - I didn't see the people in there at first, but sweet idea. Maybe a bit more contrast would help to pop the people out?
Wolfess-I like how you have made the devil into a mischievous little beast.

Eriboss: Great inking! Love it.

Sirio_brozzi: Thanks, great work with yours as well

brianl: Very nice work.

Hamsta: Is that an eye on the beard? Cool..

Atomicsushi: I love the beard.

Obi-one: Thanks... I like the colors of you piece. Very dark and sinister.

Goran: That is one awesome concept for the beard!

Fellah: A candle up its butt?!! No wonder demons are evil, it must be uncomfortable.

RobHughes: Love the lighting effect.

Fal$eprofit: Thanks. I know I didn't feel like coloring all the bodies. Sorry I'm a lazy ass. Great work with your concept.

Great work to everyone!

Whoops!! My bad, you know I skipped everyone who posted before me... I apologize:

Sheridan: Good work, your line work could be a bit cleaner. Great concept, should have finished it, with the beard on fire.

Wolfess: The skull looks a bit "happy" Cool concept. It would've been funny if the candle lit the demons beard.

Machzero: Nice work.... when you said "Fellah" were you refering to the CA user?

Yaso Kuulh: Awesome colors, great mood.

Mr_S_14: That is an interesting concept you've got. Cool how you portrayed the devil doing something other than just looking sinister. BTW do you drive an S14? Those are awesome cars.

Well,
My username is basically Mr. Sean 14 the 14 is the day of a month I was born. Thankyoy yeah, though I'm sure it's unlikely the devil ever has time off (lol) I drew him relaxing.. I have changed my devil drawing since it was posted earlier looks a little... better..., I don't want to scan it again though... heh... it's still rubbish, except for the candle. I probably should have stuck to my weapon of choice oil pastels.

-robhughes,
your's might work a little better if the background is black.

-fellah,
i can't think of a better place for it!

-obi-one,
for some reason, your's reminds me of the old 70's heavy metal album covers (like black sabbath or something) i can almost picture him throwin out the 2-fingered devil sign!! SWEET!

damicide,
very innovative take on the "peculiar beard" objective!
i envy your technique/skills.
i have an annoying habit of imagining stories for people's submissions.
(with yours, i see him at a club holding a drink with the straw at the beard's lips) ....yeah, i'm a strange one for sure.

Thanks for the comments everyone.:^^:

Darkchild:-Heh, I considered it, the beard thing, but I decided against it, though his beard is perilously(sp?) close to the flame. Go on, devil, just a lil' closer...

I think demons are like the Devils minions, beasts, because the Devil is all-powerful over evil.

Mr_s_14: Yep those are the cars. Too bad they don't sell them over in the US. Oh yeah, love the sound of bikes and cars. I belong to a car club as a second hobby to art. You should post the revision of the devil piece up. If not here then on your own SB. It would be interesting to see. Let me know in my SB if you do. I'm sure it's not "rubbish" as you say. But it does keep you striving to improve your overall technique I hope.

damicide: Awesome design for the beard. Nice portrayal of mood. I'm gonna have to up my next piece a lot to look as nice as your style.

Wolfess: It would have been funny if you had done it like that. I can imagine him running around trying to put his beard out. Awesome... see you at the next DSG.

Eriboss - :) Reminds one of YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN... Nice drawing!
Hamsta - I like that you are including more and more refinement and detail in your pics. The lower area is confusing, and it's a bit unclear that the candle is being held by the beard, but the treatment of the face really carries the pic.
atomicsushi - Great face! I think you could have kept the dramatic lighting and also shown all the features if you had used two sources of light... It looks like that idea occurred to you, but that you didn't really commit to it.
goran - Cool nose and beard! I think the composition might improve if you cropped the right side somewhat. Loved your lost rocket-man yesterday, by the way!
Fellah - Funny! Too quick!
RobHughes - Nice face and ears/head. Neck and chest seem awfully smooth in comparison though... Has a decidedly Klingon feel.
damicide - Good one!

darkchild - thanks~! The effects on the beard got lost when I resized it though. Another half an hour rush job, wanted to work on another pic. But no relationship to the local board user. BTW, they did sell the S14 in the US. Just grab a last gen 240SX and drop it in the proper motor.

Shit me. WBH that realllly is quite sexual.
Great details, great rendering, the lack of any overbearing lighting \ background really sucks your eyes to the little details, beautiful beautiful work!
I love especially along the side of his horn, texture there is great, and the ridiculously subtle soft edge to the tip of his nose!

Super!

infact, Super work everyone Great turnout again, Welcome to all new members, Nice to see you here too Fella :)

machzero: I was kidding about the Fellah comment:) My friend dropped a RB26DETT (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) into his 240. But I was thinking more along the lines of having it right hand drive and everything, all JDM. But great drifting cars though.

machzero - I like the pitchfork reference in the candelabras.. Not that peculiar of a beard, but the be-gloved, card-playing, gun-toting, hat-wearing outfit is sorta creepy.
Yaso Kuuhl - Nice candle and glare, and I love the story concept, and the combining of topic elements.

darkchild - Thank you!

William b. Hand - rush job for me, didn't make the beard too obvious. Whole company is focussed on international projects atm, will probably be flying in and out soon. Will redo it one day... the hands are baaad, and I want the pearled handled revolvers detailed. But the devil is a smooth bastard... and he drinks southern comfort.

darkchild - dropping in a SR20DET is normal. A 26DETT is insane! heheh. Got LHD and RHD honduhs at my house though.

Treehugger - Cute devil! I love the cartoonish proportions, and that its legs and feet are not symmetrical.
Observations/Suggestions: the flame is a big blobby outline (vs.being just a blob, I guess), the outer-most highlights in the eyes don't make sense with this single central light source (also: should be the flame's colour), and I'd love to see a darker bg in the suggestion of a large shadow (way too much light back there, and it fights your efforts at stark lighting and perspective).

Bill Great detail on the head, but I think the lighting is a little sterile, and not very candle like, I think it could use a shift to redder colors and maybe more contrastic to look less like yellow neon.
Something about it also makes me think it's more of a plastic statue as opposed to something living.

darkchild Yes, it is an eye, and yes I also thought about a beard made of souls... or hot women :)
You have some horrible jaggies - scanning issues? do you use magic wand to color? that's a big nono, using multiply on the line art, and coloring underneath is a better solution.
I also don't like the smudge tool here, way too obviuos.
The way you ended the head is making me uncomfortable, needs a better transition.
I really like those little beard girls - they're not perfect but it looks like a style I used to see in classic Israeli children's books :D

Mr_S_14 Colored pencils are a difficult medium, and mixing them with "normal" pencils dosen't usually work. Not sure how good your colored pencils are - the cheap ones have a lot of wax and are worthless.
I understand why you blackened the BG but all it does is cause confusion, especially with the places where you change the direction of your stroke, as these create new shapes which draw the eye to them.
Perspective is off (that little table)
Anatomy troubles? no hands, wierd clothing, head is getting there

Just don't get discourged, keep practicing and take criticism lightly
