Unified Animal Market Building of Stedtfeld Systems.
A red moon is shining over market building 340-di, the oxygen heavy air is yellowish and dull, because an effective calmative is constantly blown into it by large ground installed ventilators; to control the often overzealous traders and sometimes savage ware.
Here the interest is directed towards diverse life-forms, floating in the heavy air, walking on the ground or swimming in the water, wherefore the markets are usually built waterside.
The livestock is mostly kept underground in the multistory cellars, partly overground on paddocks.
Normal trading takes place in the upper floors rented by wholesalers; the venue is held in a special area of the tower which is round on ground plan.
Important guests may land on the roof, while others must enque at the ground entrance.
...was my idea for EOW round 6... but I failed in submitting, because cA server times run ahead of real time...

Nice sketchbook. My suggestion is to give more attention to composition in your digital paintings or drawings.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/odinsregen/sketches/cadsg946.jpg - Here for example there is'nt much space around the main subject so there is no focus. Especially on the bottom of painting more ground would be useful.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v320/odinsregen/sketches/ads59eslebt.jpg - Here everything goes too much to the left side of the painting and those children would look better if they did't have their legs cut.
So far my favourite is "the blob" :).
Keep it up!

Some more sketchbook stuff and my entry to POW1 on the bottom. It was really fun and I didn't draw panels in ages... no, not true >_<' there'll be a release of a short comic I did in Summer 2007. The anthology will be on sale first on the Leipzig Book Fair. Look out for the "Subway to Sally" Storybook. I drew a comic for the song "Auf Kiel" which is currently lifted a single. yay! :D
Anyway - my comic skills are so underground. Although I already received very helpful critique in the pow-thread, I'd love to read some more words about it. Thank you.

Since I have so much freetime and so few leisure to draw or photograph, I prepared an update on my sketchbooks for you :)
My eleven Sketchbooks amount to a weight of 3725 gram! :D 3,725 kilogram of sketches... sounds nice, doesn't it - I bet many of you have more... but I'm quite pround that draw in A5-sketchbooks since 2001, with more or less large pauses...

Hard to guess, what series was my starter drug on anime, isn't it?
When I startet this thread I was busy with Greenbook#7, at this time I'm still sketching in #10 (the upmost from above), while an unnumbered book (one of the brown ones from above) is already full... the brown ones and the tyrian purple one are from IKEA, the paper is thicker, still they are cheap and you can draw on the cover fabric :)
The stickers on my scheduler were made for the Comicsalon Erlangen comic convention. They are real Panini size. I still regret that I didn't draw myself as soccer player (that was the task - portrait yourself for the sticker).

hello last one is looking great, the tones are nice, i think what is bugging you about the eye is that it doesnt feel like a sphere in a socket like it should be. I think the section between the eye and the nose should be deeper in. The lips seems a bit off perspective too on the left of her face, the left part of her lips should follow a curves that goes a bit higher, also her left eye seems a bit small.. Anyway nice sketchbook so far keep it up :)

thank you WhiteC, that helped a lot! I didn't ever think about the lip.
sourgasm
July 30th, 2008, 04:01 PM
You were actually just barely off. Your main problem was more in the structure of the head, rather than the eyes.
I did a quick edit using liquify to adjust the eye on the left side of the canvas- pulling the right side of it towards center and moving the entire socket just a bit to the left. Then I lassoed the upper portion of her head and used edit>distort to resize it as needed (along with the ear as well). I painted a bit of a shadow on the nose. I added a little bit of highlight that would result from bounced light off of that panda fur. lastly, I simultaneously pulled the overall value down while pushing the highlights up to make the lighting more consistent (curves adjustment layer, new layer on top with a low opacity, low hardness brush set to pure white).
Maybe 2 minutes of work. This painting is really good. A real step forward for you. Congrats.

Wanted to submit to this weeks COW "Unicorn Hunter" - all about speed... but I'm the worst renderer ever... and I loose interest too easy when I see those badass stuff of the others.

426718
And, well, I worked on it. Corrected the skull, the lip, tried to correct the eyes. there's too much light on her nose und upper lip, or too few on the forehead and cheek?
I'll do a simple curtain in the background... maybe slightly transparent, so we get light from behind, too...
and I wont render this to perfection, I want the brushstrokes to be seen.

Why haven't I seen this sketchbook before?! Great stuff you have going on here.
Little bit of inconsistency issues around.. like the quality of line between your nautical unicorn hunter and the page two down from it is pretty colossal.
I really think you're getting onto something great in the last piece. Lots of expression, gorgeous and interesting stylization. I find it super appealing both in rendering and style.
Great work, keep it up please!
Kurjuus
August 1st, 2008, 07:24 PM
Cool stuff in here, and a great leap in quality from old to new.
The last piece is definitly going somewhere. You should consider adding a greater value range in the shadows. After it looks kinda odd if you compare the shadow under her chin and then that of the lips and also the hair, whcih is laking highlights currently. As to the highlights, the one on the nose is very confusing. It makes the light source inconsistent because it looks like it's lit from the viewers right, while the other highlights indicate something from in front of the figure. If that on the nose is supposed to be a reflection then you have to darken it as reflections from object are never as bright in value as actual highigts.
Oh, and blend most of the highlight with the darker values around them since they don't lie on such a hard edge.
Keep it on :)

Ryn, thank you. Yeah, I'm quite inconsistent... most times I do the absolute crap, then, suddenly, there's something neat I can be proud of... I think it's because I never think much before drawing. And it totally depends on the time spent with the unicorn-hunter-sketch and the quick-sketches above.
Kurjuus, thanks, I'm glad to hear that I may have developed. Thanks for your critique, too - I tried to spread values and darkened some areas on the woman.
Autumnal Dream, dankesehr! Next time, please, write in English - because I want everyone to be able to read what's written in this thread. ;-)
I consider the image finished. So much for values - now I should practise stuff, that I'm even worse at - colours, tints, depth, anatomy...
I know, there are still some flaws, but I can't be drawing on the same piece all time... it's not my Mona Lisa kind of lifepiece :-D

that drawing came out nicely, still some issues with one of her eye but the rendering is so nice that we barely notice. I really dig the sketch of the unicorn hunter looks like a dolphin mixed with some scarab hahaha
One thing that could help when drawing clouds, dont use hard edges brush too much.. the colors you did on your sky are nice, but they dont blend enough, they switch to fast from one tone to the other and hue to the other... you should try to smooth that up with a airbrush after, keeping some hard edges visible. You shoud also try a brush with one of its side being hard and crisp, and the other smooth.. some kind of a gradient brush if you know what i mean... this is really helpfull for rendering spherical stuff. keep it up !!!

heyyy nice improvement there, for your colors yes it comes with practice , and those study are a great way to learn.. in my opinion the most important part of color to learn is how to dose your saturation. Knowing when to saturate a color and when to desaturate it. A great knowledge of color comes from a great knowledge of light, so make sure your master your black and white tones also =) keep it up !
