Everyone is different. Some people may take 3-5 years to get from having very little skill to photorealistically rendering anything(MindCandyMan pops into mind). Others can take 10 years, maybe more. It depends on whether or not you have a teacher, how much practice you put in, how well you learn from your own mistakes...etc. It took me almost 2 years to get halfway decent with life drawing. I think I'll need at least another 2 or 3 before I consider myself fairly competent in regards to life drawing and figure invention.
Just keep at it, and take people's advice to heart, you'll learn much quicker.

I'm in a somewhat similar situation, Eteno, although I've been drawing stuff for pleasure for years. So I'm interested to see where this discussion goes...

That can depend on how much time you put in or how much natural skill you have, I like to think I'm the latter.. :teeth:
