I like outkast...first two albums..ATLiens and Aquemeni, after that they kinda lost it for me. Mos Def is cool... Nowadays I listen to 2pac (Loyal to the Game), Freddie Foxxx, Dilated Peoples, Jill Scott, Goodie Mob, Roots Manuva, The Roots, Talib Kweli, Saul Williams (Amethyst Rockstar, even though that album is kinda hard to place..heh... More Slam poetry than anything else.. any of ya'll seen Slam btw?), Jay Z (The Black Album). Those were the ones on top of my head.. If I go diggin' in the crates there's a ton more I listen to..hehe.

Okay you're getting more into my neighborhood. Freddie Foxx is ridiculous. A correction though. Kast's first two albums were Southernplayalisticadillacmusik and Atliens. Their very first one is nice. Kind of reminds me of Pharcyde a little. Jay-Z The black album is one of my favorites too. Did you like the last Roots album?

I hella haart hip-hop:
I'm a big fan of anything on Stones Throw Records, i.e. Quasimoto, MF DOOM, Madlib, M.E.D.
I also like Common (especially the new album) as well as Talib Kweli and a lot of different DJs (Krush, Dangermouse, Format).
By the way, does anybody know anything about the new MF DOOM/Dangermouse CD. I can't really find any good info and didn't know if anybody had read anything.

I have all of that.. new little brother comes out september 13.. madlib's blue note thing is nice.. i wasnt all that into the new quasimodo, especially since he raised the bar so high with the first one, i think his brother Oh No's album The Disrupt is way better.. MED's album is good too.. i think he does better in collaborations.. Mood - Doom is pretty old now, maybe like 98? talib was still really underground.. good reccommendations there

I'm with you on Tribe and I remember QMA. Some of the other ones have lost me. I tend to be up on DJ Spinna. I have Strange games and things, Brazil funk, The beat suite, Heavy beats(love the Kweli/Apani B. jawn). I need to get deeper into that underground ish. Mainstream tends to give me a headache these days unless I'm dancing to it. I have to admit though, Kanye Diamonds and Gold Digga are listenable. I'll probably buy "late registration".

I go Amazon with some of my lost CDs nowadays. "The Tipping Point" was pretty good to me. It's a short album, but it packs a lot in each song. The single doesn't really do it justice. Still I've found that people either really love it or are a little disappointed by it. I'd say borrow it first then cop it.

Some good stuff mentioned so far. Here are some of the stuff I'm into lately...
1. Moka Only
2. Felt
3. Any darker Methodman songs(I hope one day he realizes his potential)
4. DJ Shadow
5. Jadakiss (he kills 50)
I wish I could have put Kanye West in that list but I'm not really feeling his new album... I love about two or three songs from it. But the rest seems like garbage. Maybe it just hasn't grown on me yet.
I can't stand it when Little Brother is compared to Tribe Called Quest(they are compared all the time). Tribe Called Quest is so much more than LB. I like Little Brother because they have a nice chill out vibe but their producer, 9th Wonder, gets really boring. All his beats are the same. I love some of his songs but they are similair. Check out the Murs/9th Wonder album.

I, too, am a hip-hop head; most of the people I listen to have already been listed but here they are again: Jurassic 5, Heiroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Blackalicious, Lyrics Born, Mos Def, Black Star (their one album), Psyche Origami, Lifesavas, ATCQ, (though they are part of Heiro) Opio and Del, DJ Krush (older stuff mostly), Jedi Mind Tricks, and some others I can't think of at the moment.
Sketch, I'ma have to agree with ya. I'd say Tribe was one of the main groups that drew me to this style of music, and they still are one of my favorite groups.

Ooo just noticed vigostar was talkin about Jeru! Jeru is amazing in my opinion, love everything I've heard from him. And I have listened to a nice amount of Talib; loved his older things and was sad how he changed his style up more recently, so I haven't listened to much of his new stuff.

I've just finished listening to two new albums...
The first one was Little Brother's new one. I liked a lot more than their first. There's some really nice stuff on it. Although I still think a lot of their stuff just melts together and you can't really tell one song from the next. Good chill out stuff though.
The second one was Atmosphere's new record. This is a must buy! So fucking good! I liked the Felt album but this is a couple steps above. He is by far one of the most underated mcs. Go get it when it's out!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Dipset fan. I happen to love the new Juelz Santana record though. It's silly rap, but it's a distinct style and direction which is refreshing (they know they're saying silly ish). This new video by Santana was even a break from typical a$$ shaking (not that I'm complaining) and ice grills. They remind me of some of the earlier NYC rap groups in that it seems like they're actually having fun. It's hard to be a little different now and not be considered underground or corny(in the minds of mainstream listeners).
Speaking of Ice grills, what do you guys think about crunk/mainstream southern rap? I know everyone gets into Outkast, Dungeon family, Luda, or maybe even Scarface at some point, but what about Mike Jones, TI, Young Jeezy, etc.?

I find myself listening to those guys, getting really "crunk", but not really dissecting their lyrics. In a club, their music is perfect, but on chill mode back in my living room or listening to my headphones, they don't get that much air time.

I've been listening to more Paul Wall today... it's actually really good stuff. Even though he's saying the usual bullshit he's also on some honest Kanye West type stuff. Good clean beats too. I dig it.
Nappy Roots are a really good Southern group too.

Go support real hip hop and buy little brother The Minstrel Show... for the sake of good music.

I love listening to one song of Little Brother but when I listen to a whole album I get really bored. All the beats melt together and their voices aren't distinct from each other.

hey I randomly stumbled on this website, pretty cool. It's got some nice hiphop radio playlists you can listen to it you're bored and want to do some song surfing. Just click on the link by the "Artist Spotlist" titles. Lots of the same artists that people have been praising in this thread...

I've been a huge Kool Keith fan for a while. I think I got into him when I heard the song he did with ODB on that WWF soundtrack. Through Keith I got into Del, Heiro, Handsome Boy, MF, el-p, and nonphix. Underground hip hop is usually more original than mainstream hip hop but, at the same time, is far more hit and miss. Mainstream is all about going platinum whereas underground is more about getting and maintaining a fanbase.
