those two from the park are quite elegant and beautiful....nice job man.
I am really feeling the first one...really great breakdown of the big simple shapes.
- I also really dig the dude blowing stuff out of his mouth. It reminds me a bit of James Jean...but I don't know why, cause nothing very JamesJean is popping out. Whatever..it's a great sketch..
- Are ya gonna come to Art Out Loud at the Society? hope to see ya there

I'm not gunna make fun of your drawings. Sorreh.
But I will leave some feedback! Your canary and your crane appeals to me most, you're exploring with your cross hatching and thus they feel the most solid. Also, nice gesture on the canary's body; very sexy linework! You statue studies would benefit from that same sensitivity of form, since they read as very flat as they are.
The chesire cats feel cliche, I've seen him in every 15-20 year old's sketchbook ;) Batman needs a lot of anatomy help, from the plane of his chest pointing inward to his tiny hips. I know this was just a doodle, but dig up some refs for the next one! ^_^

September 5th, 2005, 11:44 PM
Willow-whisp: Hey thanks for the crits. I never noticed the flaws in batman til you mentioned them. I havent been to life drawing in a few months.. need to go back..
Loomer: That thing probably looks like james jean work cuz i look at his work too much. Ive found that if someones work is interesting enough i start to see little bits of them popping up in my work. I hope it doesnt get too bad, I dont want to be one of the james jean clones. Thats pretty embarassing.

Those two sketches from the park are cool. Nice, clean and clear. Great work on them. Your creatures are well done, but your anatomy needs a bit of work. Batman has a bit of a big head and he doesn't seem to have his cowl on. Great work so far. Please keep posting.

Not bloody bad Winjer. I agree with Snowsfall on the bird and the hand, I like the placement of blacks on his cape, and I think dumping the cross-hatch in the forest canopy in favor of bolder blacks would strengthen the composition. I dig the stylie bark work dude.

glad to see you posting this here. Like I already said before - I think there's a lot of smart decisions going on here, especially differentiating between hard, bony forms and soft fleshy parts. I also like all the working inside the figure...
For the first time though..I see what McMullan was sayin about indulging yourself. Your line quality is really progressing beautifully, and I think you may be using this as way to avoid other figurative problems. I realize the repeated line is a bit of searching, but I think you kinda like the way it looks. One thing Sam Martine told me (I used to go his class a day or two after high focus) was to just put the fuckn line down and be done with it. One of the greatest things he told and I'll never forget it "An innaccurate line put down with integrity is stronger and better than a more accurate line with no integrity behind it." And it looks better to - it even looks MORE correct. I think you are at the point where you can make your decision, make your mark and move on.
I dunno...just a though I suppose.Either way..its' a really good drawing.
