First pimp here. Hes Wip, I got lazy and decided to pimp him for feedback. Be as critical as you like, I'm trying to improve my digital painting skills because its something I dont usually do.
Btw the character is slaine - from 2k Ad comics. Obviously I took some liberties and personalised him.

the first thing that catches my eye is how the stripes on his body kind of make him transparent. I think this is because the color of the stripes is similar to the shadow color of his skin tone. that is another thing, the tones of his body could be kicked up a notch. the shadows darker and more blue, and the highlights brighter, (go warm colors on the parts where light is hitting the body, and cool in the shadows)he is looking a little flat because there isnt much contrast between light and dark. pick a light source and light the character accordingly, right now you have indicated that there is light from above, you could further accentuate this by making the brightest highlights on his chest and face, and have the highlights get dimmer as they move down the body.
the arm with the staff is shorter than the other. and the left wrist seems to be bent at an awkward angle, we shouldnt be able to see the knuckles and fingers unless his elbow is bent.
his loin cloth needs the same treatment as far as light and shadow areas as the body, look at the masters paintings and see how they treat light affecting colored surfaces.

Thanks for the crits rob t. The points you've raised are all good. I agree he he needs a stronger source of lighting and that is something I'm going to work into the pic. The hands/arms need some adjustment - I couldnt put my finger on it before but I can see now how they sit awkwardly.
The loin cloth/metal have had very little work on them. I'm hoping to make the metal seem less to be a seperate entity and also make this seem less cut - out.
I've got some bad habits from spending all of my time in photoshop painting game textures but I'm going to try ignore my tendancy to handle everything seperately and relax my style a little.

not finished the first piece off... had other things I'm trying to get done.
theres lots of perspective issues and lighting problems but I've tried to loosen my painting style up with this piece. Not finished..
So I'll keep practicing:o
